Hi guys,

I am getting so close to having everything play correctly. I use K-lite mega codec pack for my codecs, paying close attention that ffdshow is active within it. KMCP also included quicktime and real alternatives, seems to achieve the most types of video files to be played back within Windows Media Player 9 (and above).

I'm only stuck on a few file types now, most annoying is .mov.

Most videos with .mov work OK, it's just a couple that don't.

Here's a link to one that has me baffled (please take the time to try it).

http://www.arcadeathome.com/dl.phtml?misc/arcadehi.mov

This will not play back within WMP 9+ but it will play ok when I use Internet Explorer.

The other .mov files that give me issues are the ones that I take with my HP Digital camera. Same result: plays ok with IE but not WMP.

Anyone else run into this problem?

MOV is a Quicktime movie file. I've not seen any codecs to allow Media Player to play these. Media Player Classic "might" be able to, but I don't know for sure. If it can, just run that.

Only QuickTime files version 2.0 or earlier can be played in Windows Media Player. Later versions of QuickTime require the proprietary Apple QuickTime Player.

That makes sense. Some .mov vids that I have will play fine, the one vid that I provided a link to seems rather old from what I remember yet still won't play back with WMP.

Media Player Classic seems to play everything fine, only problem with that is GameEx doesn't use it.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

"quicktime alternative" supposedly allows directshow players to play quicktime media. however, i'm not sure if it would be as simple as forcing gameex to attempt to play the file (currently gameex doesn't recognize it as a video filetype so i don't know if there is a good way to test this). the same applies to the "real alternative" codec pack. however, media player classic can properly utilize both the real and quicktime alternative packs without problem. until some work is done on the gameex video component, i'm afraid you'll have to setup an "emulator" to launch these file formats using media player classic (or other player). there is a description on how to do this in the pinned topic "User Submitted Configs and Databases (Uploads)". not the most elegant solution but it is all we have for now.
