Newcomer startup

Dear people, I've been very interested in virtual pinball for a while now. I am trying to build my own table.

I have bought most of the hardware and I started with the software some time ago now. And this is where I get stuck. I can start the program but as soon as I select a table it appears as if it starts it only to come back to the main menu.
What am I doing wrong..

Can anyone provide me with a guide to get started

Did you install any software other than PinballX?

PinballX comes with sample media and table entries, but that is all they are.. they are no emulators installed with for those entries so the table launch will fail and return to the PinballX wheel. You need to also install the software to run the tables, e.g. Visual Pinball. Future Pinball, Pinball FX3 etc.. If you have installed the game emulators then please attach your pinballx\config\pinballx.ini and pinballx\log\log.txt files after a failed table launch (and let us know the install paths you used for the games)

hi scutters, thanks for your response. I installed this one. the table now seems to start but I get the message "script error line 16 xbam". do i need to install xbam and what is it for.

Sorry, we need more information.

What system / emulator and table is raising that error? (it sounds a bit like future pinball BAM?).  If the table errors outside PinballX with a manual launch then that should probably be raised on another forum (where the table was downloaded from).  If the problem is only present when launching from PinballX then please provide the files requested above along with more information on the table etc.
