I am having trouble with the "Use PinMAME in Front End" option.

Im pretty sure I am doing everything right.

  • I have the correct <rom> value in the database xml
  • I can see the command line being run through procmon (see screenshot)
  • I also see the vpinmame dll being loaded and the registry location for the "victory" being queried in procmon (see screenshot)
  • The backglass (and dmd image) pops up in the front end
  • When running the table, the rom is played correct and the table functions correctly (proves pinmame works)

I can't seem to get DMD/PinMAME emulator running in the front end.

The same problem happens with a DMD type game like Theatre of Magic. The backglass shows in the front end and the game launches fine with the pinmame dmd, but the pinmame dmd does not show in the front end.

I have "PinballX - Version 5.14 x64"

Thanks

I don't have a physical DMD, I use the one that comes with PinMAME. I have the DmdDevice.dll from freezy (1.8.2) installed and am currently using PinMAME 3.3.

I have tried every permutation I can think of with PinMAME 3.2 and 3.3.

I have also tried every combination of "Show DMD/Display Window" and "Use external DMD (dll)" combinations and still nothing in the PinballX Frontend. Both of these setting work as expected when running through Visual Pinball.

If this works for others, there must be something I am doing. Im thinking its something with my PinMAME install, but I can't narrow it down.

Brandon Law had an issue with using pinmame in the front end a while back (after PinballX 4.6x?), this may be the same.

Unfortunately the use pinmame (and b2s) in front end options aren't commonly used (most people just use videos) so you may have run into an obscure issue.  I suspect only @Tom Speirs will be able to assist

Edit - fwiw i just tried and pinmame in front end didn't work for me either on a virtual dmd with pinballx v5.14 32bit with vpinmame 3.3
