ScabbyUK Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) So i just brought an ebay purchase, a pinball x download, many many tables... all the files were in italian but i speak english. I have downloaded and unzipped all the files. I have installed pinball x and opened up the front end. It works but i knew the three pre loaded tables wouldnt work, something to do with rom location im guessing. So i went through the advanced setup but i am in deep water for sure, i dont know what to do next, i thought i would send out a help request hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Do i have to install each table because my tables list is huge, i feel like i dont want to start messing with it. I love pinball and want to get stuck in but will wait for someone with knowledge to guide me. Its a desktop build im doing first. I have roms that are vpx i have some for future pinball and some i think are mame. PinballX.ini Edited February 12, 2021 by ScabbyUK more info added
Mike_da_Spike Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Did you bought PimballX with tables on ebay ??? Its all free softeare, why buy it? And plesse, I'm a very patience guy and try to help a lot, but first read manuals of PinbalkX, Databasemanager (really awesome program that 2 guys build for free as well). Also invest some time how emulators work, like Visual Pinvall, Future pinball, zen fx3, pinball arcade, zaccaria etc. Most can be found on this forum or on the net (Google is your friend) If you got specific questions you can reach out There is an option that the master, the person who gave use pinballx and gamex, @Tom Speirswill give you premium support. See https://www.spesoft.com/news/premium-support-sessions-.aspx Cheers and welcome to the club !
scutters Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 The packs are a bit of scam, selling the work of others that is freely available elsewhere (and you have no idea if the versions are the latest). But what's done is done.. Starting point would be to get the games up and running before worrying about PinballX (this is an old guide, but one i used when starting out) http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/ba2917_ad2b870882264b7b9372a7a406fe21d3.pdf Main sites for visual pinball table are vpforums, vpinball and of course vpdb.io that uses your gameex login (and is probably easiest site to start with as the table, components get packaged together for download) When you have games working then add them to PinballX, Database Manager (https://forums.gameex.com/forums/files/file/2499-pinballx-database-manager/) will help with that. There is a bit of of a learning curve with this hobby and it can seem formidable when you start, but it's worth it! 1
BrandonLaw Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 It's always a bummer to see the folks who purchased..with real money....the software someone else, and come back to the person that developed it...asking for help. Hell, even being a donating member would get you some clout. Tom works hard.
ScabbyUK Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 Yes I have already been told of my mistake, and don’t feel great about it, it’s down to ignorance on my part being new to the hobby so my apologies.
ScabbyUK Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 In new to this hobby and feel like people are pointing the finger at me, I didn’t realise the software ect was free, so whoever did the work to make this hobby accessible accept my apologies.
scutters Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Fault is with the sellers mate. Just a shame you wasted money. Live and learn
ScabbyUK Posted February 13, 2021 Author Posted February 13, 2021 I know, feel stupid though. Il learn all I can from the messages iv been sent and come back when less ignorant.

It's more that the pinball community is full of people who will create/mod tables in the free time and give it away free. Also the devs that update the emulator like visual pinball and future pinball. And off course people that creates the front end like pbx, that put the cherry on the cake. I've seen table authors that pulled all their work from the sites, because a crook sold his tables. You properly thought you made a good deal and realized later what you've done. So don't feel bad !
