hey guys, the trackball is do anyday now, (i thought i was getting it today, but it's too late now) and i just have minor things to do like wire my coin mech to the ipac and so forth. i don't need nearly enough wire offered on the ultimarc page, just enough for 2 cherry switches from the coin door to the ipac, and maybe a front panel button to accompany the 1 button on each side for pinball games (maybe use the front for the ball launcher). i'm sure i can get wire at radio shack, or home depot, i just don't know what this specific wire is called. alls i know is there are 7 metal wires inside the rubber casing, and that's it. is there a size or voltage i should be looking for? thank you.

edit* more than 7 wires in the casing, i had counted the ones in a random piece of trackball wire i had thought was for the cherry switches.

What gauge wire to use? From Bob Roberts, for AC power and grounds, use 18 AWG (.821 mm2) gauge wire. From Arcade Solutions, for the rest of it use 22 to 28 AWG (.326 to .081 mm2) gauge wire.

Not sure what kind of wire has 7 strands inside the casing. Ethernet/Cat 5 has 8 and will work. You can use stranded wire or solid. I used 18 AWG in my cab and it works great. I found the stranded wire was easier to use in my application. Good Luck.

Oops, just checked and looks like I used 22 AWG. Also if you play to solder, I found the stranded wire was easier to work with.

Yep, it if is carrying little to no voltage like switch wires do, then it doesn't really matter. Stranded is much more flexible and easier to work with in my opinion. Anything in the 22-16AWG range is fine. Even carrying some voltage like the mouse controls will is not too much for 22AWG wires. Just get whatever is cheap and easy.
