Default Filters and Custom Databases separte for each System.

I think when we load a default filter, Stern Tables, Gottlieb Tables, 80's Tablets, etc.

PinballX should generate the results only on the system we are on.

Instead, it shows the Stern Tables or 90's tables of all the systems.

I think you should only do that if we are in view of all the tables.

If we are in a specific system, you should apply the filters to that system.

Similarly, Custom Databases should only be seen on the selected system.

For example in my case, if I am in Visual Pinball, when I go to listings, it should show the default filters plus the custom databases that I have in that system, Spanish Pinball, VPOriginal, Sega / Data East, etc, because I have created those databases in Visual Pinball.

And when I'm in Pinball FX3 I should do the same, showing the default filters plus the custom databases of that system, such as Marvel, Star Wars, etc.

Currently I only put custom databases for Visual Pinball because you are on the system you are on, all custom databases on all systems will appear and exceed the menu limit.

But if I only read those of the selected system, I would put for all the systems their corresponding custom databases, Zaccaria with their Retro, Remake ..., FX2 as FX2 but without Williams / Bally, etc.

I wish magnasave buttons jumped wheel to next letter in alphabet. A,B,C,D,E.....

Holding flipper button for scroll is a guessing game !

 

Edit:  Thanks Mike_da_Spike.  I didn't realize that magnasave would page up and down a letter (as i run to the cab to give it a try)!  

I set up PinVol today so I was switching some graphics settings around in PinballX and going from fullscreen to windowed.  Also had to switch some button assignments so PinVol didn't conflict with anything when a shifted button is pressed.

Magnasave button is already jumping to next/previous letter

As I could see, PinballX now allows creating custom filters for each system or in general from Game Manager.

However, I have created some exclusive ones for Visual Pinball and supposedly they should only appear in Visual Pinball, however, they appear in the rest of the systems also when I go to lists, along with custom databases that are in any system.

This is for example a Sega.ini that should only be displayed in Visual Pinball.

This option is fantastic, but only if it works correctly and in Pinball FX3 we can have Marvel, Star Wars, Zen Studios, Universal, etc as filters, in Visual Pinball have Stern, Sega, Gottlieb, etc, in Zaccaria have EM, Retro, Deluxe , etc.
If you mix them all when entering lists, we are in the same situation as with custom databases.

Not exactly true that we are in the same situation as custom database.  A custom database was static. The filter is dynamic. Adding a table now that meets the filter is directly visible in the list.

I was thinking for weeks how to create this with custom files (and I had the idea), but Tom just implemented it.

For me a filter is fine to show system independent,  maybe an user option in settings to toggle it ?

I suppose the problem arises for Tom because PinballX can work with or without the systems menu, and this can complicate programming.

But you have to look for the formula, when we are in Visual Pinball, only the filters created for Visual Pinball should appear, it does not make sense that filters from other systems appear there, Marvel, Zen, Universal, Deluxe, RT ...

FWIW, i'm happy with the current implementation. I now run VPX exclusively and have two custom systems set up for VPX. Whichever one of them i'm using i'd want to see the lists of the other. I do have the system menu disabled though so maybe there's an option to use that setting as a flag, i.e. if system menu disabled show all filtered lists, if system menu enabled show only filtered lists for the current system.. Just a thought.

It's about finding a way to make it work well in both cases.
Currently, it does not matter if you do the filter for all systems or that you do it for a specific one, it will be seen in all.
In your case, it may not matter if the systems are Visual Pinball, Visual Pinball X and VPM5.
But remember that there are many other systems, currently I have the following:

Taito Pinball (Visual)

Each system requires different filters, which makes no sense to see when you are on other systems.

Zaccaria based in Type (EM, RT, AW, Deluxe)

FX in Type (Marvell, Star Wars, Zen, etc)

Spanish (Inder, Sonic, Peyper, Playmatic, Recreativos Franco, Juegos Populares)

When View FX3, need View FX3 Filters, not other system Filters.

Names that contains () in the name (before the manufacturer with year), will not be displayed
For example I have a table called "Metallica (Premium Monsters) (Stern 2013)"
but the Premium monsters part will not be displayed

There are a bunch of names that contains (according to IPDB) extra text, like "(limited edition)" or in this example (Premium monsters)
Is it possible to only filter out the last part between the () instead of the all in the text ?

Ghostbusters LE (Stern 2016)

Ghostbusters Premium (Stern 2016)

Ghostbusters Pro (Stern 2016)

If you put in () versión, PinballX hide of description all works ()

Just need rename databases and files.

When you download files generalment the name is Ghostbusters LE (Stern 2016)

Don't rename this with (LE)

I also use TeamViewer...and have noticed that you get about a minute where you do not get a popup after any initial login.  Example: I start the video recording session for a table after a long session and I know I'm going to get the popup and immediately X out.  You get 20 seconds before the table starts recording on the cab.  I log back in, close the popup, and X out.  No popup.

I would love 3 options in attract mode 

1) random (current)

2) alphabetical 

3) release date

It would be awesome to watch the abbreviated history of pinball on my cab!

I have too much filters, and those are not showed on the lists menu anymore.
Is it possible to make that list scrollable ? 
So that the list will scroll if it is too long, instead of removing the entries ?

If Filters only show in Select System, don't have this problem.

But whith Filters showing in all systems is a Big problem.

I think the principal problem is this, one time solved this, scrolling can be god too for systems with a lot of Filters or all systems View.

I'm filtering my vp tables and a common filter for tables that are recently modified (not the default that shows recently added)

Too much filters? Maybe... but I like it with all those categorized filters/lists

While we are re-asking years later, I would still really LOVE to have 3 options in attract mode.

1. Random (current) 

2. Alphabetical 

3. Chronological by release date.

My interest in my cabinet is pretty much in thirds. 1/3 playing it, 1/3 maintaining and updating and 1/3 just having it on in attract mode. Unfortunately, random like most music shuffles isn't very random and is pretty repetitive. In fact, if I were really dreaming I'd ask that random doesn't repeat until ALL on the list have been seen.

I view new about PinballX 4.65, one of new features is:

- New custom system for exe files.

Can someone put a short description of how to use this new Feature?

Its pretty much automatic you just use a full absolute path for the table and it is an exe file.

But I do not know if it is used to make a pcgames system and in the database put in the alternateexe the paths to the different executables or if it serves so that single table systems, such as Pro-Pinball, Wicked or SlamIt can be executed directly from the systems menu without accessing the menu with a single table to launch it.

I guess when I install it I'll see.
But sometimes, I think that the information when publishing a new release is very brief.

An explanation of what a feature is for and how to use it, never hurts.
