shroud Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I am interesting in knowing in general what kind of retrogames do people play and include in their GameEx setup. A poll might be too long to handle the responses tho Here's my own list of systems and emulator of choice: - Arcade Coin-Ops (MAME) - Lasergame Coin-Ops (Daphne) - Atari VCS/2600 (Stella) - Coleco Vision (ColEm) - IntelliVision (Bliss) - Nintendo NES/Famicom (Higan) - Nintendo SNES/SuperFamicom (Higan) - Sega Master System (Fusion) - Sega MegaDrive/Genesis (Fusion) - Sony PlayStation (ePSXe) - Sinclair ZX Spectrum (ZXSpin) - Commodore Vic20 (WinVice) - Commodore 64 (WinVice) - Commodore Amiga (WinUAE) - MSX/MSX2 (MESS) - MS DOS (DOSBox) - Graphic adventures (ScummVM) - MS Windows (DxWnd) Quote

I'm in the process of migrating to GameEx Arcade though, so it may be more or less depending on how that process goes. 2 Quote

stigzler Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I only run one system on my cab: Mega Duck WG-108 After this system, nothing else compares. 1 Quote
Draco1962 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I am sure some of you will be surprised that I don't run more. Arcade - MAME, Daphne, Model 2, Model 3 PC - Atari 800, Atari ST, Steam, Origin, Uplay, DOSBox 1 Quote
RedDog Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 A few here: Wii Console (Dolphin) Gamecube (Dolphin) N64 (Project64) SNES (Snes9x) NES (Nestopia) GBA (VisualBoy Advance) Genesis (Fusion) Sega32x (Fusion) SegaCD (Fusion) Saturn (SSF) Dreamcast (NullDC) PS1 (ePSXe) PSP (PPSSPP) Neo-Geo Pocket Color (NeoPop) NeoGeoCD (NeoCD) Mame-a-rino (Mewui64) Which reminds me...It may be time to start looking for emulator updates. Mr Austin recently did a few videos for Top 10 emulators for 2017 here and here. Well worth a look I say. I have other stuff configured, but it's mostly to help others in troubleshooting. I wish I had a good enough rig for PS2, but ah well. 1 Quote
hansolo77 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 You guys actually have a few systems I never bothered to set up yet. PSP, Nintendo DS (not mentioned though I know it's out there), PlayStation 2 (same), Wii.(Xbox?). But I went and added systems nobody really ever wants to play because I was OCD on making sure I had everything. Channel F, Casio Loopy, etc. There's other systems too I meant to add but never got around to, like Dreamcast, Saturn, PC-Engine CD, 3DO. I'm trying to remember what the most recent thing was. I think it was either GameCube, or Model3. I don't even have ScummVM or zMachine stuff yet. 1 Quote
Adultery Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I just checked out my emulator list, and I forgot GameCube and NDS, my bad. I also forgot to add 32x, Triiforce, Wonderswan, Colecovision, INTV and a half working Type X which probably won't make the conversion. 1 Quote

shroud Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 5 hours ago, hansolo77 said: Yeah, like I said.. a bit behind on the scene. Wow, just WOW! I think I need to ask you the next question... how many games (roughly) do you have for each of those systems? Do you use gamebases, or did you cherrypick a selection of titles for each? Because with so many systems emulated, the total number of games might be astronomical! Quote
hansolo77 Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I've never counted total games, but all of my systems are complete romsets, except for the CD-image based systems. Those are cherry-picked. And SegaCD has another entry in the list that I've set up to use as a direct boot off of my CD drive, so I can play all the legit owned games in their original media. I was going to do the same thing for PSX, but never figured out how to get it to look for data on the CD drive.. the emulator only seemed to want to read images off the hard drive. EDIT - A lot of the computer systems use GameBase, but the other's are all using dedicated emulators or MESS. Quote

Those are cherry-picked. Makes sense! My collection follows a different approach, all my games are cherry-picked, averaging ~30-40 per system. I keep it small so that we don't get overwhelmed, or never get past games starting with 'A' Quote
hansolo77 Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I've got a few games from each system I typically play. A select bunch of favorites. I typically only play those. But it's nice to have a full collection to try something new. With RetroAchievments now a thing, it's even more fun to try and experience new games! Quote
ClassicGMR Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I have complete sets as well. Love having every game because you never know when someone is going to come over and ask if you have Game XYZ. However my Favorites List is hand-crafted for instant goodness! To answer the original post correctly I have most systems running under Mednafen. I really like the emulator and it runs everything I throw at it well. Best Virtual Boy Emulator right now that I have found. EMULATED SYSTEMS: - MAME - Atari 2600 - Atari 5200 - Atari 7800 - Atari 400/800 - Atari Lynx - Intellivision - ColecoVision - Commodore64 - TI99 4/a - Nintendo NES - Super Nintendo - Nintendo Virtual Boy - Gameboy - Gameboy Color - Gameboy Advance - Nintendo64 (buggy and not worth it IMO) - Sega Master System - Sega Genesis - Sega CD - Sega 32x - Sega Game Gear - Turbo Grafx-16 - Neo Geo Pocket Color - Sony Playstation - Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) - Windows games like my GOG collection (easy to set up shortcuts into a PC GAME folder and run them) IN THE WORKS: - Panasonic 3DO - Mattel LED Handhelds (YES THIS IS A THING!!) - Nintendo Game & Watch series - Nintendo Gamecube 1 Quote

Kustom Kid Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 The ROMs are curated. Although I have full romsets for most everything, I don't want to wade through a bunch of crap to get to the games that will actually be played. Spoiler Arcade (MAMEUIFX .174) Atari 2600 (Stella) Nintendo NES (Nestopia) Nintendo SNES (SNES9X) Nintendo 64 (Project 64) Nintendo GameCube (Dolphin) Nintendo Wii (Dolphin) Nintendo Gameboy (Visualboy Advance) Nintendo Gameboy Color (Visualboy Advance) Nintendo Gameboy Advance (Visualboy Advance) Sega Master System (Fusion) Sega Genesis (Fusion) Sega Dreamcast (NullDC) Working on getting it set up proper Sony PlayStation (epsxe) Sony PlayStation 2 (pcsx2) Steam Origin Still debating on setting up Nintendo DS, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Sega Saturn, Daphnie, NEC TurboGrafix16, and a possibly a few others. 1 Quote
stigzler Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 The ds, 5200 and Saturn can be buggers. Finally found successful setup for 5200 if you get stuck. Also got DS running, although desmume sadly doesn't support different Windows per display else it would be blinding! Saturn.... Yuck 1 Quote
