So I got Gameex long ago (the paid version) and still love it. But after I set it up it met my needs and I didn't really bother to update it once I got everything set up the way I like. Now I'm noticing a bunch of bugs that weren't there before, like crashes when I save to favorites etc. My arcade machine computer is a Windows XP. And now I have a new computer (Windows 7) with a nice graphics card and would like to transfer my stuff over to the new machine.

My main question is this older version of gameex I have (very old version) I've customized the look of everything quite a bit. And am very attached to the way it looks and put a lot of work into it. Is there any easy way to upgrade to a new version of gameex and still have everything look identical to how it looks now. I also don't know if I can upgrade to the best version of gameex without upgrading to gameex evolution.

One last question. I did a thing where I went into the thumbnails folder and saved over the thumbnails with box art... (In gameex under the MEDIA folder the folder is called "THUMBS"). By doing this I could have a game screen shot as the background.. and box art as the thumbnails... this took a lot of work to do with all the games I have, as at the time gameex didn't have that feature built in... And I really would like to avoid doing that again when moving to the new computer...

Worst case if anyone can point me to the newest version of gameex I'd need to update too, to accomplish what I said above... even if it isn't the newest of the new versions...

I would really appreciate if anyone could help!  (GAMEEX VERSION: 1.0.0 - GAMEEX SETUP WIZARD VERSION: 2.5.1 - It says Copyright 2011)

Thanks!

OK, firstly GameEx latest, will run both version 2 AND version 4 themes natively with no problems.

If you are running V1 (man that's old!) it will still run, with the old version but because of advances in tech you'll need to make your theme atleast into V2. With the included Theme converter it should be easy enough. If you are using old equipment (ie VGA monitors) then you'll probably be fine and can update to the latest GameEx version with no problem (it handles old hardware very well).

I can't really give more particulars without needing more info, but know that i have successfully ran GameEx in XP, W7 and W10.

I'll just add to Dazzle's post with this, Evolution isn't currently an available option, and if your romset matches the dated version of GameEx your running....then by all accounts you need to pursue bringing it up to date as well.  It's unlikely an old set like that will play nice with a recent release of GameEx.

Thanks guys, Before I start up the latest version of gameex for the first time... is there any sort of protocol I should go through in terms of transferring Media and the thumbnails (aka THUMBS folder) and the gameex Assets folder (where all the snapshots are etc.) from the older version to the new version. Like how should I situate everything so gameeex recognizes it and I don't have to reassign everything... any specific process?

I very doubt its version 1. You are probably looking at the exe version rather than in the log. There is normally not a problem upgrading and you just run setup.exe and install over the top. No harm backing up the entire GameEx folder though.

When you say "install over the top" do you mean that I first place the backup of my gameex folder in the C: drive before installing. And then install? Also in the lastest versions of gameex can I force 4:3 Aspect Ratio, cause I'm feeding the signal to a CRT television.

Thanks so much for the help guys!

No I mean, just install it and accept the defaults but I have to tell you to backup right!

4:3 has never been a problem as far as I know. Were you getting an issue?:

No I wasn't getting any issues, just trying to ask as much as I could before I get started. So I just install accepting the defaults. And then when I'm done installing I replace the media folders with the ones from the backup etc? Also is there anyway I can avoid doing all the emulator configurations again, how do I get gameex on the New computer to recognize them... Sorry to ask so many annoying questions... I'm just trying to avoid redoing anything I've already done if possible... I think your right that the version was the version number off the .exe

Thanks a lot for the help so far.
