Hi,

I updated my MAME romset to 0.176 yesterday and i'm trying to update the game list on Gameex.

It's been sitting for more than 12 hours now with the following message: Reading Listinfo.dat (25%)

I'm using Gameex 12.90 because it's the highest version i'm entitled to use with my license.

I'm hoping that someone had the same problem and can help me out. I'm attaching the log file.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

Pedro

Hi, yes, that is not right.

To troubleshoot. Look at the .bat file in the data directory and try running that.

I expect its a permission issue and mame64.exe is stalled due to a permission issue such as being blocked by windows.

Hi Tom thanks for the quick answer.

I've tried executing runit.bat even as administrator and it only opens a black cmd window with no text shown.

After about a minute it closed the cmd window and i saw that it created the file Listinfo.dat with the size of 186mb.

I've changed the permissions of runit.bat to full control and ran gameex update list via interface and it gets stuck at 25% again.

Any ideas?

Hi Tom,

It seems to be a problem with build 12.90.

I installed latest build 14.54 and used it just to update the game list.

It went well and then i installed 12.90 on top of it and it's not asking anymore to update the list so i assume it's fine now.

Thanks.

I don't think its a bug with the latest release otherwise I would of heard about it.

Installing an old version does not really get the issue fixed buddy.

Even when its working it will stay at 25% for a while.

What build and version of MAME are you using.

Hi Tom,

You understood it wrong... the problem is happening with an older version, not the newer one.

With the newer one (14.54) works and updates the list in about 10 minutes..

The 12.90 is the one that doesn't work, stayed for more than 12 hours at 25% and i gave up.

Thanks,

Pedro

having the same issue as describe here except in my case i'm using 12.54 and mame64 0.175.  Probably will just pay for the gameex upgrade to avoid this and potentially other issues i'm guessing.  Life is too short.  :-)

Is there a problem with running the latest version the since it apparently fixes the issue you are reporting with the latest version of MAME and GameEx v12.90? Or is the real issue with having to pay a nominal fee for an upgraded license key? I'm a little confuzzled.

In my case i can't install any version higher than 12.90 or i'll have to pay again for another license.

What i did to solve this problem was:

1. install the latest version

2. update the game list

3. install version 12.90 on the same directory

Worked for me.

For the record, this happens mostly when your support files don't match your MAME version, or one or more of your paths are incorrect. Also, if you are running older versions of MAME it can happen if you come across the "Carn Evil Bug". Search it - i've said enough on the matter ^_^

Hi Pedro - Just so you are aware, if you are running 12.90 and experiencing an issue, that version has long been deprecated. If we are asked to help troubleshoot an issue, we will be glad to - on whatever the current version is at the time. You will most likely be asked to upgrade to the current version to ensure that the latest code is being executed which, in many cases, will resolve whatever issue you are experiencing at that time.

If you do not wish to upgrade to attempt to remedy an issue with an older version, we will stop right there. This is not me being a hardass or trying to squeeze a penny for the author. It is just the nature of dealing with software. It makes no sense to waste time trying to make something several years out of date work when there is a newer version that absolutely does.

For anyone else, Pedro's solution is "use at your own risk" and not a recommended solution to fix any issue with GameEx.

Draco,

I fully understand that.

As i said this workaround worked for me, i'm not encouraging anyone to use it.

In my case i don't think it is justifiable paying for a new licence just to have a new romset working, so i tried to find a workaround.
