newbie question - change background for systems

hello....i am a newbie. using the Default - Default theme and playing around with it

after i click emulated systems .....i would like to display a different .png background behind the different emulated systems rather than the spinning gameex thing

is there a way to do this?>\

where do i drop the .png?

Not that I'm aware of, there is a theme editor though.

Disclaimer: I have not created themes, or edited them.

Many here do create their own custom themes, but from what I've read, it's a process of reverse engineering an existing one. I believe that's what Draco is touching on here.

Given enough time, someone with much more knowledge of this should be able to offer you some more solid advice.

When I toyed with it I found the only way to have a "background" for each system on this screen is to use the logos. You have to swap out your logo images for backgrounds images in your theme and set it up in the theme editor to display on the entire screen. It does work but the drawback is that you lose the prime function of the logos. When you're inside a system and it displays this logo if the other is not found, it looks terrible as it's not a logo at all.

In short, I've found it's possible to have the emulated system menu switch backgrounds instantly without problem but your logos will all be backgrounds and not actual logos this way.

You can actually do this but it takes some work, and it will only be on a theme basis. Meaning it will only work on the theme you choose to edit.

You'll need to load the theme you want this to apply to in the Theme Editor. Then go to Edit> Options. Select the Settings Tab, and check (put a tick in) "Custom Emulator Layouts" and "Custom Module Layouts", then choose File> Save As...

Now you can choose individual backgrounds AND layouts per system, using the Object Browser (on your left).

Zero Dreams' method is perfectly valid though. if all you want is to replace the default images, as mentioned though, there are shortcomings

My way you can have your images untouched but it takes some dedication, Zero's way is quicker and less involved but sacrifices some functionality for ease of use.

Both methods are equally valid.
