I picked up a full set of 0.167 merged set 7zip roms, and installed gameex. Also downloaded mame and mame 64 binary. Using setup wizard pointed to the roms, pointed to mame64 (then tried again with mame). Booted up gameex and did update list each time. Only about 160 some roms show up.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the GameEx forums!

Check Dazzle's post about filtering options, give those a try, and update.

Go ahead and remove "Japan" too.

I see you have some of these already at the recommended settings, but I didn't have time to check them all.

After a bit more thorough read, and I can see you have these settings already. Removing Japan from the filter will get you more, but it seems something else is going on.

Noticed this in your log:

14:52:56.5 11/3/2015: Detected MAME Version as: 0.167
14:52:56.5 11/3/2015: 32 bit MAME version detected on 64 bit windows
Have you tried compiling your own mame build using teh 0.167s release?

I did try Mame and Mame64 binary's but did not build my own. I did download the source files and build tools (windows), and am compiling now. Guess we will see if that works :D

While i'm waiting for that, I did just run the mame binaries and all the roms would show up there. So that was working, just something about Gameex and updating the list. But i'll report back after I tried my complied option.

Question, should I use the 'arcade' build option, or does it matter?

Have you validated your ROM set using ClrMamePro, Rom Center or similar ROM auditing software? If you've not taken an opportunity to do so, I think I would recommend that course of action. If everything checks out, awesome, that's one less problem to consider. If there is a problem with your ROM set however it will quickly reveal itself through the ROM audit.

Hey just out of curiosity what is the last game that appears in your list after rebuilding in GameEx? (Also remember that you'll likely want to rebuild your game list against your newly compiled version of MAME, or anythime you make MAME configuration changes in the Setup Wizard for that matter).

I used Rom Center. It seemed easier to understand and worked great. But, I'm not sure if ones better than the other.

Also, you can always set your GameEx rom filter to just allow all games. Then you'd see all, just some wouldn't work upon trying to play them.

Another option would be to try and open them from MAME itself (outside GameEx). If they don't work there, you've got bigger problems than GameEx. You'd want to check into a rom audit software.

I will try Rom Center, i havn't down an audit yet. I downloaded ClrMamePro but dont' know how it work at this point lol.

I'll take a look at the last game, can't remember off hand, but i'll take a look.

I did remove the filters but still had the issue. I also ran mame itself and all the games showed up and worked (well i didn't try every game, but the list was huge, and many games worked) :)

You compiled MAME64?

I believe so, using the tool I believe there was a 64bit option checked somewhere.

ALSO, thank you all for all your help!! Hopefully it's something simple and i'm just a moron :D But I appreciate everyone chiming in!

Have you unchecked verify games in MAME setup of GameEx? Meaning do not have GameEx verify them?

I have it turned off.

also, the last game I have Zorton Borther. It looks like it hits most of the letters in the alphbet.

what's weird, is it seems like most of the games are lightgun games.

You might have the lightgun games turned on? I'll look at your .ini tonight

Do you have anything in your custom list folder?

Another thing to consider, just install GameEx over itself, sometimes this auto-magically repairs these "twilight-zone" type mystery problems.

GameEx upgrades work in this same manner, and while there is always some risk something could go wrong, typically it goes off without a hitch. You not in a workable state anyway with MAME at this point, so it can't hurt.

RESOLVED!

GRRRR arrgg, i should have known the light gun games was the clue. First off thank you everyone for your help!! I actually learned a lot more about mame in this process.

Turns out, it's not a lightgun game option or filter in the mame settings. It's instead when GameEx detects a 'touchscreen' it enable touchscreen mode and filters out non-light gun games. Touchscreen has it's own settings section, which I kept skipping because I didn't think i needed to look at that :) See thread below.

In my case, I don't have a touchscreen, BUT I do have splashtop installed which adds a virtual touchscreen driver.

Great catch ShadowHunter! Yeah it's definitely not the first time that enabling touchscreen support on a desktop machine has caused GameEx to act in an unexpected fashion (which is to say that it's by design, but it can definitely catch you off guard if you're not expecting it). It's something that happens just infrequently enough that I forget to look for it in the posted GameEx,ini. Thanks for posting back and sharing your findings!
