Headkaze, and anyone else who has read my previous topics, will be well aare that I have been having a heck of a time with ffdshow.

Recently loading preview movies crashed the system.

Now they play, but they are upside down.

I am tempted to try installing divx, although the last time i did that caused gameex to crash when trying to play the preview movies.

It plays MPGs fine, it's just the AVI's that are mirrored.

Got any suggestions for this one Headkaze? (or anyone else)

One way to fix it is to open the FFDShow configuration (should be in your start menu). Scroll to the bottom of the options box on the left. Select Output. At the bottom of the Output settings is one called Flip video. Toggling that will flip the video vertically.

Yes, the ffdshow config program is not widely known and has heaps of settings that can be tweaked including the ability to change which codec handles which format. So if you have DivX installed you can switch between the official codec and the one included with ffdshow.

will this flip all my outputs?

Only the avi's are upside down - i don't want to fix them at the expense of my mpgs. I'll go give it a shot, and see what happens?

Sorry, my comment wasn't in relation to fixing your upside down video problem, I was just talking about the ffdshow config program. Vynce has the solution to your problem, but I'm not sure if it will flip all your video's because I havn't tried setting this. AVI covers a large range of different formats including xvid and divx, but looking at the settings in ffdshow looks like the flip video might be some sort of global setting. Check it out and let us know your findings.

That's a good post Vynce, and it probably explains the problem right there. You are running a codec that is turning the video upside down, perhaps it's the standard xvid codec or something. The thing is, ffdshow should be all you need for all your codec needs apart from perhaps an mpeg2 decoder for an MCE machine. So my advice would be to go through your add/remove programs and remove any codecs like xvid/divx/codec packs or anything like that. ffdshow should be installed on it's own, because on it's own it won't make your videos display upside down.

You might want to get the free version of ZoomPlayer. It has many codec setup and configuration options.

Do Not Install Codec Packs!

Configuring your system for Media Playback. Click the 'next' button at the bottom a few times - theres a guide on cleaning up your system to start from scratch.

If these don't help, you might be able to find a solution in the Zoomplayer forums. You can also use Zoomplayer for testing.

The Doom9 forums are also a valuable place to find help for video-related problems.

I'm having the same issue too. And only recently, after an upgrade. Some of my video is corrupted as well. motion trails and blocky viedo as well as being upside down. I'll check my codec setting and see if I can resolve the problem. Although I have doubts. When playing the video snaps in any other program the video is fine.

I solved the problem by uninstalling ffdshow, and re-installing xvid for media playback. I guess the problem lied in an ffdshow setting, as to what it was I don't know! :) everything is back to normal now, so I think I'll leave it the way it is.

aparnold: If you read the post by Vynce you will see it was probably the xvid codec *with* the ffdshow codec that caused the video upside down problem. Uninstalling either xvid or ffdshow would solve the problem, but it is recommended to just use ffdshow on it's own.

XviD filter

Filename: xvid.ax

Again, installed as part of many codec packs, the XviD filter can decode DivX video as inverted.

I was only using the ffdshow codec, (no xvid or divx install) and the video was corupted. xvid worked flawlessly. I should have mentioned that I re-installed the codec after switching to ffdshow. I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.

hey guys, here are my findings:

hitting the flip video button did fix the avi's... but ONLY in Gameex. If I play any avi's outside of gameex, they are flipped upside down... very strange.

Also - I ONYL had FFdshow installed, no other codec programs. So it has something to do with ffdshow itself.

I am going to download and try this xvid for media playback when i get a chance and see what happens.

I am slo experiencing blocky trails, corruption, and a long delay in the time it takes the movies to actually appear, as aparnold mentioned.

Perhaps it's a graphics card / graphics driver problem. Do you have a decent graphics card and the latest drivers for it?

I run Ultimarc's ArcadeVGA card, as my cab runs on a 29" wells gardner.

The architecture is based on a radeon 9800 or something similiar, with a modification made to it's output frequency. It's known to be compatible with Gameex, and tons of people run it without these problems.

installing the ffdshow daily build rather then the latest ffdshow build listed on their website fixed all my problems.

Well, it definitely wasn't your video card then - I thought it might have been some type of old onboard video.

Glad you got it working. Getting video to work correctly in windows can sometimes be a PITA.
