It runs fine on both, but personally I prefer Windows 8 64 bit. Good chance I'm in the minority among the general majority of users, but I think Windows 8.1 is much better once you tweak the GUI. If your thinking about playing around with PinballX, there's another good reason, Tom recommends it.

Whichever route you go, the Sharks 32 bit standard codecs are the most recommended, just be careful navigating the install prompts so you don't end up with some bloat you don't want. The others work too, but there is currently no benefit over the standard version.

Congrats on your new PC :D

I'm a converted 8.1 x64 user who swore they would never leave the comfort if w7 and it actually works really great. It should also be noted that you don't need a codec pack anymore if you choose w8, it works just fine without one. :)

One thing I was reminded of recently is with both win 7 and win 8 - upgrades to windows 10 will apparently be free.

So far everything tested on the available windows 10 builds work well including GameEx Evolution WIP.

Cheers.

Tom.

Just bin the 'Charms.' Oh and 'Metro.'

A desktop PC is a desktop PC and a Tablet a Tablet. Bit like trying to play a CD on a record deck.

Completely agree. I'm still testdriving on my laptop to get everything setup as I want until I deploy everything to a HTPC. But Windows 8.1 in my personal opinion runs much smoother and bug-free. At least, that's my experience. I'm just wondering, which tweaks and such do you apply?
