DazzleHP Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I've been messing with video encoding for a few years now, and i'm happy with what i've learned, and satisfied with how much i can compress a raw lossless clip down to practically nothing, with decent results. However i use really old programs/methods and they just don't cut it anymore (see what i did there ).I want flare in my vids but i'm not prepared to pay for exorbitant software such as Adobe Premiere (£250?! - yeah, take my shoes and push my face in to the dirt while you're at it Adobe!).I want to be able to add blank/black space, with text/pictures, seamlessly spliced with multiple clips with fading/crossover/transition effects. But at the same time not need to have a degree on the subject. Something relatively simple to use, but with a nice set of features.I'll take the time to learn new skills if they are justified I am willing to pay for the right product (but free is nice), as long as it is reasonable, ie no Adobe! Do you guys have any suggestions/recommendations? Coz honestly i've tried many and am getting nowhere EDIT - must be able to render in 1080p minimum Quote

Having said that, I've been very satisfied with the features and capabilities of plain ol' Windows Live Movie Maker. I'm not sure if it will have everything you're looking for, but you absolutely can't beat the price (free!). Quote

I probably should have said in OP that it has to be able to render 1080p at least (corrected) But you're right, WMM is great in that it has everything i want, but the output is limited to 720p and there are no encoding options. Because of this the final render is quite bad Fine for home movies, webcams and such but disastrous for gaming footage Quote

nullPointer Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I don't read it as much as I used to, but Lifehacker can be a really good source of information about useful (and often free) software. This article might be of particular interest to you. Among other offerings, maybe Lightworks would be of interest to you. It sounds like the learning curve can be a bit steep, but once you do learn the software, the sky's the limit. Quote

I've tried most on the list but there are a couple i've not tried yet Thanks for that!As for LightWorks, i've tried it and OMG not only do you need a Masters in video production to get anywhere, the min specs are monstrous!!It requires an i7 with at least 8GB ram... I made the vid in my previous post with stuff i was using on XP! It's used by pro's tho so understandable. I'd love to find a happy medium between WMM and LightWorks, if such a thing exists?EDIT - cheers Todd! there is one on that list that i never even heard of I'll check it out! Quote

It seems pretty slick although I can't find anything to indicate min specs and whatnot. I think I might go ahead and take it for a test drive! Edit: Well ... maybe not. As an aside, WTH are RED Rocket Drivers?!I have no frikkin idea! lol I almost got taken in by the front page too, but i was stung by that before - Premiere, Lightworks and a couple others. Just like LightWorks though them in specs are way beyond my reach Well actually my laptop matches them OK but still, they insane! There surely must be something between free and low spec, and pro and high spec! I'll be damned if i can find it though Quote
