pisuke Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 hi ., i have a question. i have installed game ex full support. i don 't see mame in the aviable emulators.. why? do i have to install manually where i want?thanks
nullPointer Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Hi Pisuke and Welcome to the GameEx Forums!MAME should appear as a downloadable emulator in the Setup Wizard on the Download Emulators screen. You can put MAME into a directory of your choosing, but by default it will download to C:/MAME if you go through the Setup Wizard. After you download MAME it is highly advised that you use the dedicated MAME configuration screen to configure it within GameEx.Good luck! 1
pisuke Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 thaks so much for reply. in the emulator list it was not mentioned.i downloaded last mame 64 bit.i have installed in d:\emulators\mame64but now how can i configure other stuff i downloaded? (chd , cpanel, flyers.... )thanks
tthurman Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 It is in the emulator list, arcade>MAME, but as nullPointer mentioned, this is NOT the preffered method for running MAME in GameEx. That section is more ideally suited for consoles etc.nullPointer's third link (scroll down) is the preferred integrated method, and gives you access to the extra support features for MAME that GameEx offers. This is where you will set your paths, d:\emulators\mame64 in your particular case, and as you keep going you'll see where to set your paths to the other directories you mention.I would recommend getting your basic mame games working before venturing into the chds, and when you do, pick the ones you are interested in, as so many do not work in a playable state. They go in the roms folder too, but require some additinal directory structure.unclet sums it up in this postYes, the games which have CHD files associated with them still have a separate "rom file" as well. The "rom file" should still be placed with all other rom files (ie: in the mame/roms folder). Then all the CHD specific image files should be placed inside a new folder (which you create) located within the "mame/roms" folder.Example (as stated before)/mame/roms/area51.zip/mame/roms/area51/<area51chdfiles> 2
pisuke Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 ok thanks. i have just downloaded roms and chd. i need to know if i have to use software like clrmame to rebuild gamelist (software that i ve read about but i dont know very well).thanks
DazzleHP Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 i need to know if i have to use software like clrmame to rebuild gamelist (software that i ve read about but i dont know very well).thanksFor now, i wouldn't spend too much time getting involved with that, i would just concentrate on the basics. For some reason, this is becoming more and more of a problem lately, not sure why, so i will outline for you and anyone who is just getting into MAME as a hobby.Firstly, everything must match! Running MAME 154? You MUST have a 154 romset. Period. Have a 156 romset? You MUST compile a 156 MAME.exe. You should never mix versions when it comes to MAME. It is not like a regular emulator, which is why it doesn't get treated as one in GX. Whenever you can, you should also match all support files in the same manner, so if you have MAME .154, you will need mameinfo, history, catver, etc version 154 to match.I know it seems unforgiving, but MAME is unforgiving - It wants everything to match and you should strive to make that happen. If not then it's probably not realistically going to work for you, at least not flawlessly which i'm sure you want 2
CharlesLam Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 i have seen romset and version mismathes work halfway. when this is done you typically see problems with roms not showing up and sometimes screw up when launching. keep it simple, match the versions up like others have stated. It seems you are kinda fresh so ill give you some advice. get used to going to the setup wizard and dont trust it. double and even triple check settings by setting it once and closing out the wizard just to open it up again and to make sure your settings stayed. you can and will get it working with enough perseverance. Also make sure command line paths and options are correct. this will save you time trying to figure out why something isnt working.
