Heads up: European users

Just a heads up to those in the EU. I will have to charge additional sales tax (VAT) on European purchases from the 1st January because of new rules affecting the selling of digital products and services.

The sales tax applied will be your own countries rate.

Because of this I also have to verify all IP addresses against billing addresses in order to apply the correct tax rate if you are in Europe. I may also have to drop PayPal. Not sure yet. Regardless, you won't be able to get round it.

Obviously if you are thinking of purchasing anything you may wish to do so now so you don't pay tax.

"It is what it is". At least you're letting people know ahead of time, should they decide to purchase a license. This way it's not not a total sudden surprise and people would be like "I didn't know"... You have posted it.. right here. Cover your butt at least. It's a shame you'll have to potentially drop PayPal. They've always been real good to me, never had any problems with them. I hope whoever you do end up with will give you decent services.

Update: Since I now have a big accounting burden due to these new European rules and have to account for and pay tax for each European country I can no longer sell in USD dollars so the store is now priced in British pounds. Note: You can still purchase from any country.

Ive also had to cancel all existing PayPal subscriptions and have disabled recurring subscriptions for the moment. This is so payments don't come in with the wrong tax applied.

Understand, this is not my choice. Its just what I have to do to continue.

Thanks Tom for the update, I received my PayPal recurring payment cancelation notice today and came here to see the reason. Hope this gets straighten out and it is not too much work for you.

Bit late to this again but, I can't quite believe that law got passed! I mean i'm assuming it did because of your announcement. If it is so, then that is just insane I admit i have no experience in running a small business, but i DO understand the implications of this law and what it does to people like you, Tom. Damn, to be honest i thought the whole thing was so ludicrous that it would never be passed I cease to be shocked anymore.

So, if you are competent at maths, love filling out tax forms and likes to do things for the good of the people - call Tom

Yeah it adds a lot of extra burden (forgetting all the time spent this month) and I will also obviously lose out financially too. I would not mind if I had to implement sales tax because I was earning enough which is normally the case in the UK. If it was not so much a passion for me and I didn't love doing it so much I would drop it all including Evolution. As it makes no financial sense.

Anyway, just a reminder the tax change happens at midnight tonight GMT time. I may temporarily disable the store while I make the changes live.

I'm not really looking for donations or hand outs though although its all appreciated. What I would really like is to earn it by providing great products and services and having enough people realise and know that they are (assuming they are) and then purchase them.
