[RESOLVED] Game EX Won't launch on cabinet PC

Game EX works great on my development PC, however it will not load on my cabinet PC.

Here's my log:

You need to also provide you config and GameEx.ini in order to give everyone a peak of what could be causing it. See here for more info on asking for help.

Is that a mobile CPU?

Just looking at those directions makes my eyes bleed (for the config file) I do not have the export option available it's greyed out. I was under the impression that when I spend 8 minutes inputting mame directories I had configured mame and then when I said what amounted to 'only ever use mame' that I wouldn't have to do any more than that.

This works VERY different from how I remember it but that was many years ago. I honestly don't have the slightest clue on how to give you that config file in spite of the directions being posted. Is there a specifically named ini file or something that I can directly to instead of... that?

Or do I have do some strange 'set mame up twice' thing?

I want to give you the config, but apparently I can't.

The PC is a spare laptop it is a mobile GPU. it has run game EX in the past with no issue. I will be switching over to a PC with a desktop gpu in the near future.

Yeah. I can't follow the directions for getting that config file. They're clear and concise. but physically not possible in my situation.

In addition since I didn't have an emulator on the list I tried to add mame... again even though it was already configured a few steps before so I'm not clear on why I would need to spend time on it again, and it wanted to download mame. Even though again, it was set up in it's entirety a few steps before. So that doesn't seem like it's what I'm looking for. but it is what those instructions say to do. Based on all of that I don't even see how that config file is related to anything since the method described for getting it seems to point towards software that's not being used in the first place.

is there a file name for the general 'no emulators other than mame' set up?

As odd as it sounds i might just format my hard drive and restart. typing this up from a mini keyboard while hunched over the bottom of my cabinet is more frustrating than troubleshooting the problem. (i don't mind how long that takes, it'll be worth it).

I actually am typing this response on a cell phone, so apologies in advance for keeping it brief. According to your log, GameEx is crashing very early during its start up routine. Are you running a custom build of Windows (like an nLited build or something) or have you disabled any functionality in Windows? The reason I ask is that errors of this nature generally indicate a driver issue, missing .NET dependencies, or other low level issues with the host machine.

You don't need to configure MAME twice. You want to configure it through the main MAME settings screen and leave it at that. The 'second' screen you mentioned is for configuring any number of other standard emulators. It's possible to configure MAME through those screens, but if you do you'll actually end up with two MAME entries in your games list (the second one will appear under Emulated Games), and worse than that, the second list will be missing a lot of the great functionality unique to MAME within GameEx.

This is the area you want to configure. Have you double checked all of your paths?

As for the config, I didn't know how you had tings setup, and some configure MAME as an emulator, so I had to assume it was least possible you had it configured as an emulator. As nullPointer mentioned, this bypasses a great deal of the GameEx featrures. Wouldn't seem this is an issue here though.

I was just curioius about the CPU, as I did some quick digging to see if it was possibly intergrated graphics.

Hmm. I believe I have set all of it up then. There's a mobile GPU on board so it 'should' be using that. I have modded windows a bit though only visually (custom start up splash screen).

I don't have any standard features disabled.

My driver's and such should be up to date but i'll go through and manually update everything. If that doesn't work then I'm putting a new PC for the cabinet together soon regardless. (I had wanted to make a pre-configured image of Game Ex and my full system before hand).

Since this is going to be fixed one way or the other I'll mark this as resolved. Thank you guys very much.
