Hello guys,

I've problems when trying to start GameEx. I haven't changed a thing and now it's not working anymore...I'm puzzled...

GameEx is showing the theme's "loading please wait screen" and the "main menu". Then the screen is freezing and doesn't respond to anything.

GameEx seems to have problems loading the RSS feeds. However, when I disable the RSS feeds using the setup Wizard it's facing the same problems when I try to start GameEx...

I've also tried using another (default) theme with no success :(

I've attached my log and gameex.ini files

I hope you guys can help me out...

Have you looked at the log file and tested the Hulu feed URLs? When I do, I get an error "The page you were looking for doesn't exist (404 error)"

Posted

You may want to try removing the Hulu feeds and downloading the latest GameEx build and installing it that way.

Hi Draco. Thanks for your help so far :)

I've deleted these newsfeeds. The URL's were not working:

www.hulu.com/feed/recent/movies

www.hulu.com/feed/highest_rated/videos

slashdot.org/index.rss

Still having the same problems unfortunately. I've the latest GameEx (13.20) build already installed.

I've again attached my log and gameex.ini

I realize you have the same version as the latest, but was it an update install from 13.69 via GameEx or did you do a direct download and install from the .exe? If either, try downloading it from the site and running the install again. I have seen quite a few where the auto-update fouls things up yet they are remedied when a download and install is performed.

Sorry. I misunderstood you Draco...

Can I just install the downloaded GameEx build in the same directory where I've GameEx already installed without any consequenses ?

Posted

As always it is a good thing to make a back up of your files. Generally, there is no consequence.

Posted

I've downloaded the latest build from gameex.com and installed it in my already present gameex folder.

It didn't solve anything unfortunately. I'm facing the same problems as before (see latest attached log / gameex.ini)

I hope there's another solution...

Very odd. Unfortunately I can't figure out what is going on based upon the log file. I would assume that while the loading screen is displayed that the program is loading from the cache files. Can you go into the directory and delete all files with cache in the file name? I am thinking that one of the files may be corrupt. They will rebuild with fresh files.

Posted

I searched for and deleted all files with cache in the name > started GameEx > same problems as before

I also tried reinstalling GameEx again after having deleted the files with cache in the name. After running GameEx I run into the same problems.

I've again attached my log and gameex.ini

Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Thanks Draco for your help so far :)

I don't see anything other than the invalid steam path. I'm not sure if it's a problem or not.

I would start disabling options until GameEx works.

Posted

The invalid steam path would only be an issue if you have steam enabled.

The log says it's enabled.

Educate me on the 'Available texture memory: -1825MB'

Is that because it is shared memory?

I'm not usually good at troubleshooting things like this, so I'll just throw out my general rule of thumb to try when I have trouble...

Have you recently installed anything that might have broken something else? Like say, drivers, or video codecs? Or maybe installed some new program? Whenever I have something stop working, it's usually because I've just done something to the system like installing or updating something else. Try and remember if this is the case. If so, try uninstalling it, or perform a system restore (provided you have a recent backup). This is usually the problem. If it's not that, maybe it's hardware related (like bad sectors on the HDD causing the drive to suddenly fail [believe me, I have plenty experience with that ]).

Hopefully it's just something simple. It's most likely something you've done. Either in the system elsewhere, or in a configuration. Don't worry, you'll figure it out. In the mean time, you can always run MAME outside of GameEx, it just won't be as pretty!

@ Tempest / Adultery > I've disabled Steam and a lot of other options. Doesn't seem to work.

@ Tempest > I'm afraid I don't know anything about available texture memory being shared somehow...

@ Han > I haven't installed any new programs recently

I think I'll just do a clean install of my entire computer. Was about time anyhow ;) I think I'll reinstall everything when I'm free from work the last week of this year :)

I'll run GameEx on my laptop in the meantime.

Thanks so far guys. If you have any hints in the mean time I'd be glad to hear !!

Just so you know, I tested here with your gameex.ini ant it seems to load fine. It did take a while to download the news feed but not that long. Maybe its an internet connectivity issue and its just that its taking a long time.

Posted

I had a similar issue that I was able to resolve (apparently there was a DNS error) by opening a command line and typing ipconfig /flushdns to delete the Domain Server resolver cache. Not sure it will help in your case, GC, but won't hurt anything either.

@ Tom > thank you for testing my gameex.ini !

I've tested my internet connectivity and there seem to be no issues. I always have a connection.

I've again tried to run GameEx > I've waited a little longer for the news feed to download. GameEx then responds for about 10 seconds. When I select another menu-item GameEx again freezes. After a while GameEx responds again and when I select an item it freezes again.

The news feed at the bottom of my screen each time runs for a few seconds and then it freezes and GameEx doesn't respond. [i've attached my log / ini with RSS/news feeds enabled]

It looks like it has to do something with the RSS feeds. HOWEVER, when I run GameEx with RSS / news feeds disabled I run into the same problems. Very strange...[see log / ini with news feeds disabled]

I've tried your suggestion and ran the above command line. With no succes unfortunately :(

Any other ideas ? I can always do a clean install of my entire computer if nobody has any ideas left ;)

Check your Event Viewer in Windows and look for any warnings at about the same time you have GameEx up and are having the issues.

This is not saying that there isn't something to be tweaked or fixed in GameEx, but that there is something amiss, possible OS or other application update that has negatively changed something that GameEx needs. These are more difficult because they don't manifest always in the log.txt file where it is more obvious and not everyone is having a similar impact.

Wow, a lot of errors and warnings when I check the event viewer. I think the fastest solution is to do a clean install of windows and everything ;)

I do not have much time the next couple of weeks. I think I will do a clean install the last week of this year.

Thanks for your help so far !!
