[RESOLVED] Not loading MAME games...

Okay, last night I got everything set up and love everything about Game Ex. I've used Maximus Arcade before and wanted a change...There's a bug with MA and the Xarcade Tankstick.

Anyways, everything looks great. All of emulators and roms show up and play perfect. But, the MAME games do not load. They loop back into Game Ex. It looks like it wants to load and play...However, if I set up MAME as an emulator they work fine...

I'm at work right now. Just thought someone may have an idea...I'll post my log TXT tonight. Thank you guys so much.

BTW I'm running MAME plus. Windows 7 64...

Yeha there's definitely something strange going on there. In addition to your log would you mind also posting your gameex.ini? That way we can compare your current settings against the result you are seeing. If you're not sure how to access your gameex.ini please take a look at this.

Oh yeah, that's a very good catch. Nice one Draco! That would probably be the most reasonable explanation as to why it's working as a standalone emulator, but not with the the MAME functionality built into GameEx. MAME settings in GameEx are built to 'standard MAME specifications' and may not play well with unofficial builds.

Great. Thank you so much. I'll get the .ini files and such this evening...or tomorrow. Soon though...Should I also try the official MAME build from the mamedev site? I went with mameplus as it was recommended on the XArcade site. Thank you again.

If you are using the integrated MAME support, the official MAME build from mamedev is recommended. I use MAMEUI64 with Win 7 x64 and it works great.

I updated Game EX and installed MAME from the mamedev site. same result. Games show up and simply loop back into GameEx while trying to load/play.

Did you click on Update List in the MAME section of GameEx after you installed and configured MAME?

Yes, everything showed back up... Games, art, etc. Went to try 1942 and it tries to open MAME, it say initializing and then right back to GE.

It looks like you have a typo in your MAME Options. That may not be the source of the issue, but it certainly can't be helping.

This does not appear correct to me. It should either be mame.exe (or mameuixx.exe where xx = 32 or 64 depending on which UI version you are running).

It looks like it's a compiled version of MAME used for debugging. So mamed.exe would allow you to utilize step through debugging tools with MAME such as Visual Studio. It would be worthwhile to either change that setting in GameEx (if that's not what your MAME exe is called) or simply download MAME again (Since you probably don't need a debugging version, unless you're altering the source code and testing changes).

It's so amazing to me that the solution was that simple. The setup on the Xarcade page told me to use Mame Plus. Oh well. Everything works great now. Game ex is by far the best FE. So much awesomeness. Thank you guys for your help too. So great. Now to send some money to the developers. And play some games.
