Directx error, I cant figure this out.

I get this error when I try to start gamex. I installed the latest directx and that did not help.

Did you follow any of the other recommended steps in the error log? The ones in bold text are what I would address next.

O.K. A little more info. GamEx runs fine on a computer monitor. The error I get is when I try to run it through my ArcadeVGA to an arcade monitor.

The desktop and everything displays perfectly well, but when I try to open GamEx, it gives that error message. I am at a loss on this. It seems like many people have used this with arcadeVGA before.

Again it looks like the arcadeVGA drivers are not installed. I also thought they never used to run above 640x480 and you have your resolution set at 800x600.

PS: I (The author) have used an AcradeVGA in the past.

Yeah, same here, the old version worked well... the new one, I cant get anything. I have the drivers updated. I will try forcing it into 640*480

I really loved GamEx, I hope I can get this working.

Ok. So I went here: http://www.ultimarc.com/avgadrivers.html downloaded and installed the driver. Restarted... Again Gamex works on a normal monitor without the arcadevga. Once the arcadevga is installled I get this:

The old version of GameEx used DirectDraw and now it uses Direct3D. It may be old ArcadeVGA cards don't support Direct3D. Only Andy would know but if it is the case there is not much that can be done on my end.

its the new 3000 version card :( I actually bought a new card cause the old one didn't work anymore with Gamex...

I can't see why it wouldn't work then. Try running DXDiag.exe and ensure that Direct3D is working. Also try installing a fresh copy of GameEx in a separate folder just to make sure its not a setting somewhere. Also try telling GameEx not to switch resolution and visa versa.

Have you tried any of these?

1. Turn off advanced Graphics.
2. Try a lower resolution.
3. Try turning on and using 16-bit colour
4. Ensure any required video codecs are installed.
5. Try a different theme, or try running the theme at the resolution it was designed for
