This is probably one of the coolest themes I have had but I have always ended up staying away from it because of this ONE issue. To me the theme is perfect except for one drawback. When I go through all the menus they look like so - attachment 1. The boxes are in place and the background is straight black so you can see the text on the screen.

But as soon as I go into any game menu certain game menus the arcade graphics and or artwork take away the black background and replace it with there graphic and it hurts the theme....attachment 2.

But for another odd reason SNES seems fine. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I tried getting the NES Emulator to stop that annoying display by removing all the artwork for the only ROM I have which in "Maniac Mansion" but for some strange reason the graphics are still there...and the files re-appear in the directories where I know I delted the artwork from. :) Besides this flaw this theme is GREAT! And I would like to get this figured out but I can=not thus far., I tried to edit the "All Games" template in the Theme Editor by just adding a black background but I must bne an idiot because I canot seem to figure it out :)

Thanks,

Rich

The issue may be that you need to ensure you have Change View enabled (via Setup Wizard) and click it repeatedly within the section in question until you get the view you desire (without the game snaps or vids playing in the background). Before you do that, though, you may need to go into the \gameex\data folder and delete all files with cache in the name.

I noticed I jsut DLed Wonderboy 3 and have not went to my site to DL all artwork.. That displays a screen shot in the top middle panel and a Marquee in the top right...everything else is black...which looks good. So to me there is a style of artwork being displayed badly....where in setup wizard do I do the "Change View?" I checked under , mame, theme and display settings and nothing stood out to me.

I'll try the cache thing like you mentioned. I think it would be cool if whatever that art work is does display somewhat to fill in the empty spaces behind all the boxes and CPU screen on the theme but not to take over...looks bad

I did clear the Cache Files but that did not help.

Change view can be found under Enable/Disable Features (easily found if you use Search and enter the terms you are seeking).

You must be talking about the "Enable/Disable Change View" setting. Yeah it is enabled and I cycled through the "views" man that looked bad. And it did not help. I cycled through them all(to the point I was worried I'd never get back to a normal look :) - but nothing...a few came close but it always had that huge picture in the background spilling into the foreground pictures. I I look at the :"All Games" template in the Theme Editor it does not have the same black background as the Start and other pages. How can I just add the black background to that...I think that would help.

Not sure that would help. You may want to remove the theme and redownload/install it to see if that makes a difference. Kind of at a loss thus far. BTW - are you running the latest version of GameEx?

Yeah I originally had WarGames v1 and I DLed WOPR v2 yesterday to test and the issue continues. Yeah I have the latest and greatest version of GameEx

Doesn't each emulator have the option to display it's own background?

I'm new to the whole Theme editing realm and found I couldn't really do anything but move exisisting boxes around(Example: Weather, scroller, Image 1...etc" Any pointers would be helpful.

To your original issue i would switch back to the Default - Default theme, cycle through the Change View until you get all pages back to having the normal default blue background with the text list. Then switch back to WOPR and all should be fine. The change view button can cause confusion as some views look the same when they actually are not.

You can give "All Games" its own background by choosing Mod Background> All Games in the Object Browser, Then click [Open...] (at the bottom) and browse to your background. Every element, background and foreground can be selected and edited using the Object Browser. Study it well ;)

Cool I'll give that a try sometime this week. Thanks for the info guys.

Sorry to have missed this thread... Glad to hear you like the WarGames theme, but sorry to hear that you're having problems with it. I believe the other members are correct, in that it sounds like a Change View issue. While developing it, a couple of times I would accidentally change view, and it does not work well with the majority of the views. It took me a long time to get it back... I've since disabled Change View on my cabinet... I look forward to hearing if the above suggestions help you sort it out.

Not to revive this old thread because I had just been dealing with this issue on my XP PC but now that I am creating a new Theme I notice I am having the same issue with other themes. Basically after I get past startbak and bak screens in the menu I lose my backgrounds. So if I get to the point where it lists all my games all I get is forground pictures and GameEx Layouts. I verified all the backgrounds are in place on the PC I am building the new theme but they are not showing on my cabinet PC, which is my XP box.

I know this has to be an issue on the XP PC itself but I'm not sure what setting I jacked up on the XP PC. I did try scrolling through the "change views" and that did not help. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich
