Just updated to 13.12 and now it keeps saying update when i say yes gameex crashes.

Is this the old hang bug we used to get and should i download a do a fresh install.?

I altered the theme and its now done an update and is working... most odd.

Likely the old hang bug.. somewhere a 1 was turned to a 0. Only thing you can do is download the installer and try it again!
