I'm using Windows 7 64bit and when I launch a VP table from PinballX I get the UAC prompt, the same as when I load VP directly from the desktop. This doesn't happen in HyperPin (perhaps due to it using FPLaunch?).

I currently have everything in the Compatibility tab for VP unticked, and have disabled desktop composition globally as the pop-up message about the colour scheme changing was annoying me.

Do you have all set to Run As Administrator under compatibility? Keep in mind that the prompts noting a request for elevation are not the same as the UAC prompts. You may need to consider loading UAC and disabling them, period. If your machines is amply protected by AV-AM software and a firewall, there is little need for it.

It's not set to run as admin, all the boxes are unticked. The icon still has a shield on it though for some reason. I've been thinking about disabling UAC - I'll certainly be doing it on the cabinet, but not sure about on my main PC.

I'm using VP 9.15 and I'm getting "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" whether Run As Admin is ticked or not. Temporarily disabling UAC stops the message appearing. Perhaps this is really a question for vpforums about why the publisher is unknown...

Here is a link that probably best describes the activity regarding an "unsigned publisher" and how to keep the prompt from occurring.

By the way - If you launch PinballX as administrator you will get no further prompts. You set PinballX to always run as administrator by modifying the compatibility settings.

Thanks for the link, Draco. I probably should have looked for that myself really. I'll have a proper read of it when I get the chance, but in the meantime running PinballX as admin as per Tom's advice has stopped the prompt appearing when launching VP.

I use a cracking little free program that allow you to white-list programs to not display UAC Prompt. It's called: UAC Trust Shortcut and its available at download.com for 32 and 64bit windows :D

You just install it and when you start the program you can add new program to white-list. Once you white-list a program (say PinballX :P) it will create a new shortcut on your desktop and when you use that shortcut, it will load the program without the UAC popping up.

So check that out and let me know how you get on.

UPDATE:

Forget about UAC Trust Shortcut, as i found out its still no good and you have to manually start it everytime you restart windows in order for it to work.

I have found a new better way, which also auto starts win windows start. So this is GREAT for cabinet owners who like to boot right into the frontend: Read this here and it will explain what you need and how to set it up: http://www.ghacks.net/2010/07/08/get-rid-of-uac-prompts-with-microsofts-application-compatibility-toolkit/

I just done what they said in that post and restarted my pc, then i opened Pinball X and i never got the UAC.

I only just done the above so still needs more tests but so far so good.
