So I am trying to get GameEx to install in Linux and when the installer comes up, it is telling me that I need to install MAC 2.8. What is this app so I can try to get this to work? Thanks.

Probably a MAC 2.8 gHz or higher MacIntosh? That would be my guess. Likely you won't get it to work on a Linux box at present.

Actually it may work and if not I am happy to spend some time getting it to do so. The installer should detect if it is running under Wine, not sure why it isnt. Please add the following to the registry prior to install.

DWORD - LocalMachine/Software/GameEx/Wine = 1

And it is Microsoft Data Access components. Nothing to do with MAC.

I just spent some time getting the installer to work on Linux with PlayOnLinux and have released 13.10. This version should just install out of the box and GameEx will launch and navigate the menus fine. Compatibility with emulators and other features could be hit and miss as usual though and its still officially in alpha experimental status. I tested with the latest Ubuntu 64 bit desktop release.

Cheers.

How did you get on jrock? I was able to get it working with windows x86 MAME .148 without much of a problem, audio and video seemed fine. MAME for Ubuntu (from the software manager) seemed to crash it though.

Just had a quick play with gameex 13.11 and can report that the mac installer works fine on my lion hackingtosh - the set up wizard is painfully slow though.

However in ubuntu 12.04 the installer fails to install mdac, but I managed to install it with winetricks then the installer completes fine.

On trying to start gameex or setup wizzard ect it fails :( .

I have tried using both classic gnome and cinnamon but with the same result.

Isn't 12.04 a little old now? I think I tested on 13.04 and it worked fine.

Its the latest LTS, so is still currant - I stopped upgrading to every release a while ago just the long term suppoert ones now :) .

Wonder if my dual screen setup/xconfig is throwing it?.

The issue is probably because wine-Mono is not installed. Otherwise you would not have got the MDAC install. I found that the version of Wine that comes prepacked with PlayOnLinux is no good and that you need to download the latest build which you can do within the app. see if that works.

Ok, so I updated gameex version and it now loads. Tom if ok with you, I would like to use this thread to post any other problem I encounter. Then once it works, I would create a blog post of another post that gives step by step on how to install and configure
