Hello,

I've been running GameEx for nearly two weeks now, with no major problems. I have been trying to customize the theme using the theme editor, but have run into some issues, and I am hoping that I can get some help!

Since about 2005, I've been using Microsoft powerpoint as a front end. Terrible, I know, but it was simple am not a programmer. It grew because it worked well enough. Throw a shortcut to the .pps into the startup folder and boom, the computer would boot up to a clean white screen where I have linked images of the various consoles, with painstakingly edited cover art of my favorite games linked to the rom files. I'd been satisfied with the whole mess for some time, until I got the itch to run an N64 emulator. I spent a couple weeks playing around with 1964 and PJ64 to no avail; the program *was* the front end. This led me to look into some of the leading FE's, which I had heard about. I settled on GameEx, and it works wonderfully, with my older emulators (though I recently downloaded updated versions thanks to GX) and with the N64 emulator (haven't settled between the two yet, I've had unsatisfactory results with both). I must say that the GameEx is very nice and *surprisingly easy* to setup for someone with more bravery than brains. I am seriously considering donating, but I long for my old format...

All in all, I can settle for (or prefer) the linked text to consoles and the general feel of GameEx. However, there are a *ton* of features I would like to turn off or remove entirely. For example, I would like to have the start screen simply list the various platforms. I have no need for recent games, favorite games, multimedia, more games and programs, etc. I do not hoard rom files; at most I have about 25 .nes files, the shortest being under 10 .z64 files, so I don't get lost. And the computer is TV dedicated, not even connected to the internet, nor used for video or music (I have my jurassic record player for that).

Is there a way to change the main screen to simply a console list? I know this may seem trivial, but I have a feeling that most people here have their respective FE's *just right* too, so I hope you understand. Also, if I do decide to donate, is there a way that I can transfer that unlocked version to the other computer?

Any help would be wonderful. I do have about 2 weeks worth of GameEx experience, so I may be familiar, but not an expert by an means.

Welcome to the GameEx forums! I think the best option would be using the Custom Menu application. WIth that you can load the emus you want in any categorization you like. You can also disable functionality via the Setup Wizard.

Is that only functional when check the checkbox "Enable"? For example, I removed some of the items, but they still appear. Will the removal only take effect when after donation?

Please let us know what exactly you are trying to disable. You may want to locate your gameex.ini file and log.txt files and attach themin reply to this post (click on More Reply Options in the lower right and click on Choose Files (Under Attach Files on the lower left). Hi Chuck, as Draco mentioned in his first post, the quickest way to make a system(console) only list would be to use Custom Menu's. You can make it exactly as you want it and will save you going through all the options in Setup and disabling everything manually. Then, if in the future you decide you want a feature back you can just add a new menu entry for it ;)

Here's a guide (excuse the shameless self promoting :D ) to get you started.
