Hey,

For some reason I've started to get spam/popups on most places in my chrome browser?

My antivirus etc doesnt detect anything and its getting really annoying

Any Ideas?

Here's an attachment of an example of where they appear.

Based on the icons in your task tray (orange house with flag and white flag with white x in red box) , either your Windows Security Essentials is either disabled or out of date and requires attention. If disabled, it will not detect or firewall against that type of activity.

I did an Essentials scan just before posting and it's green now advising no tasks need doing, its always constantly switching from orange/green, no idea why?

I've cracked it.

In my Installed program's there was something called AddAdds.exe, once I deleted it the problem no longer occurs.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll mark this as resolved.

Be sure to clear your cookies and temp files (CCleaner is great for this type of thing) as it may try to reactivate if triggered.

I realize I'm late to the party but just throwing my 2 cents in:

Every pc and laptop I service/sell gets the Microsoft Security Essentials program you already have because - hey it's a free updated antivirus. They update it a lot and its pretty good.

What it doesn't do well is eliminate Spyware. Most Spyware is not considered a virus and is ignored by MSE, Norton, McAfee, etc. I ALWAYS install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware on my systems. Free scanner that updates a lot. It's not an active scanner so you have to run it yourself. I run mine 2-3 times a month as I use my own computer constantly. Works much better than Spybot IMHO. You should check it out.

I would imagine that you could create a script to schedule it (someone may have already done so in the open source community). I hadin't considered Malwarebytes Anti-malware before but will give it a go - thanks for the share!
