I would like to get some nice, higher res images of console controllers (NES, SNES, TG-16, etc.) to display in the monitor I have built into my CP to illustrate the controls for each system. Does anyone have a good source for something like that? I would be looking for something similar to this NES controller pic.

Wikipedia, also DeviantArt tends to have high res controllers etc, most controller images can be found through google images.

If your stuck finding an image, just say and i'll get it for you.

I was just wondering: why do you want to have console controller pics in the CP of your cab?

I presume you're only using arcade sticks when playing games on your cab...?

Just wondering...? <_<

I think it would help to display the button mapping for the emulator in use at the time (i.e. in the example of NES the image might show which CP button maps to A, which CP button maps to B, etc.) Showing a picture of the original controller as part of that mapping helps the user to visualize what's going on. It's a thought. :)

Not all cabs are setup to run just arcade ROMS. As such, many use wired or wireless controllers for those systems that require or play better with them as opposed to a static arcade CP.

I agree for most part, but the classic-console-controlers like NES, SNES, Sega and others like Amiga, Atari cannot be used by playing on a cab right?

So therefore, I was wondering why you would show a picture of the controller in the CP, when playing these games on a cab.

Not to critisize anything, just wondering what could be the value of using such pictures :)

There are some creative souls that have created adapters that allow for the use of some of them on modern PCs. I use original Xbox wired controllers sometimes on my Win 7 machine thanks to a wired adapter that converts Xbox male to USB male and, along with a driver, allows me to use it in various games.

I guess Xbox and Playstation have that solution.

But with the classic consoles (NES, SNES, Atari, Amiga etc) this isn't possible right?

I use a USB 7-port adapter with USB interfaces for SNES, NES, Intellivision, Atari - both joysticks and paddles - and ColecoVision. There are also USB adaptors for N64 and most sega controllers. You can also buy USB repro controllers. There's nothing I'm aware of that can't be used via USB on a cabinet.

As mentioned by others in this thread, there are kits and adapters that let u use almost any console controller via USB. I have a 4 port USB hub built right into my cabinet and have converted over controllers from most of the major systems to USB so I can plug them into the port. When I load a game for a particular system, I want to see a pic of the controller and what each button is used for.

Hi gamepimp,

so you have a monitor build in your CP? How do you get a monitor with the size of a CP-panel?

Do you perhaps have a picture of your CP or of any CP using a build in monitor?

Thanks!

Yes, I have an 8" monitor in my CP. Here's what it looks like...

That is fantastic. Very professional looking! Thanks for sharing.

I think i will never be able to create something like that ...:(

Thx for the complements guys! I have been working on this cabinet for over a year now. That CP alone took the majority of time due to the complexity of the artwork (which was done by another individual). The project has definitely been a "labor of love" and is still not 100% complete in my mind. I certainly could not have done it without the help of the awesome peeps here and at the BYOAC site. I've included another pic that shows the whole machine in case anyone was interested...

Looks Awesome gamepimp,

I really do need to invest in building a cab, I used to have an official working SF2 Champion Edition cab but couldnt be bothered as I had no space.

That looks great gamepimp! You should post some pics to the Cabinets Running GameEx thread.

Thk u guys again for the kind words. It really means alot to me. :) I've put alot of work (and $$, unfortunately) into building this machine. This is actually the 2nd showcase style cabinet that I've built and I promised myself that I would make this one even better than the first (which I sold regrettably when we were living in an apartment and didn't really have the room for it). So I definitely have tried to pull out all the stops when thinking of ways that I could improve it.

Celly, in response to ur question, I def have plans to add this to the "Cabinets Running GameEx" thread. I still have a few more "tweaks" that I plan on making and then will get it up there. BTW, I live in the Kansas City area now but I grew up in Orangevale. My dad still lives there and my younger brother lives in Roseville. Small world, huh?

Very small! How's this for small, my best friend from the military, just MOVED to Kansas City! Ha!

This area of Northern California is the best and I'm happy to live here. I know the Orangvale/Citrus Heights area pretty good. We used to live in Citrus Heights until we bought our house in Roseville last year August.
