thurmansevolution
Hello and Good Morning/Afternoon to all!I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if so, how to fix this. *When I leave GameEx on overnight, and its on the screensaver/attract mode, when I return in the morning the screen will be blank, but the music from my media will continue to play. When I press a button to try to wake it up, it exits GameEx and leaves me with an error. I checked my computer's settings to make sure that the power save is off.Attached is the log file. Thanks in advance!!LClog.txtGameEx.ini
Tempest
AFAIK only Tom could answer this question. I modified the topic title in hopes that he will see it.
Draco1962
You may also want to submit your gameex.ini file so we can see your attract settings. It is possible that some of the ROMs attract mode attempts to load are not working ROMs.
Tom Speirs
What codecs are installed? It looks like it could be a codec issue possibly.
thurmansevolution
Hello! I apologize for the delay in getting back with y'all....just came home from work and its been a long night lol.@Tempest - Thanks! @ Draco - Where would the gameex.ini file be located at? I searched the GameEx folder, but was unable to locate it.@ Tom - Are ya talking about the codecs for Windows Media Player? If it helps any, I am using the .mp4 video files that were downloaded from emumovies for the attract/screensaver (they give full screen, and go really well with the music ) I have them located in the GameEx/Demo folder. I'm not sure if it does the same thing if I use the "Play playlist and run mame without sound" option, but I will give it a try and see what it does, to narrow the field down a little. Thanks again for all the help! I have no idea where a noo-b like me would be at without the support from y'all!
Adultery
Hi!You install any codec packs to play your movies? Most of us here use Shark007's codec pack... A codec is the tool that decodes your mp4s so you can watch them. Do your videos play fine outside of GameEx?Your GameEx ini is located in C:/GameEx/CONFIG
thurmansevolution
Hello Yes, I have the Shark007's codec pack installed. Lol, I actually kinda forgot about it being installed - I went to look for it, and when I opened it, it said that my version was outdated, so I went ahead and downloaded the new version. I'm gonna give it another try and see if that fixes the problem. Last night, I reconfigured everything to where the MAME would run as the attract/screensaver instead of playing videos. I noticed when I woke up that; 1. It did not do the same thing that it did with playing the videos (give the blank screen and error out), and 2. It would randomly start a game through mame and then after a little time, return to GameEx on it's own.I'm going to have to head to work in a few - It's finally my "FRIDAY" , and gonna have to keep the drunk's at bay lol. I'll post the .ini file up in the origional post at the top of the screen, and also will test the new codecs out and let y'all know how it plays out .Thanks again for all the help! thurmansevolution
Hello again to all! It seems like the update to the codecs didn't help anything - it is still having the same problem. I rechecked all the settings in windows 7 last night to ensure that the computer itself would not go on any kind of standby.I'm stumped now lol...By the log, it seems like it does this action around 2 -3 hours after going into the screensaver/attract mode. Maybe there is something I'm missing - I'm gonna go through the wizard today with a fine toothed comb lol Anyway, thanks for all the help so far! Draco1962
Definitely provide us a copy of your gameex.ini file as we may be able to help you zero-in on the issue.
thurmansevolution
Hello! Here is the GameEx.ini file as of today. I've tried to go through the setup wizard to see if I can pinpoint what"s going on, but so far, its looking like a bit of a challenge lol. Thanks for all your help so far!! STONEDSTONER
I get the black screen also if i use both videos and MAME , i just stopped it from playing videos in the end
thurmansevolution
I think I found the issue of what's going on with the the attract/screensaver -Long story short lol - I used the default videos that came with GameEx (.avi files) to play during the screensaver and it worked well. I'm thinking that its the .mp4 format that might be kicking it off and making the black screen - kinda a codec issue it seems. I'm redownloading all the videos now in .avi format and when its done, will test it out and post if it worked or not. Thanks again to everyone for all your hard work and efforts! Draco1962
I would recommend getting the mp4 issue fixed if that is indeed the issue, as they are becoming more widely used than the avi and flv formats. If you have installed the Shark007 codecs (if using Win 7 x64 bit, there is a 64-bit codec pack that also needs to be installed), you will want to uninstall the 64-bit codec pack first, then the standard codec pack, then reinstall them standard and 64-bit codec packs in that order. thurmansevolution
Thanks Draco Lol, I have Shark007 installed on a 32 bit Windows 7 system. I will follow the process as ya described (basically reinstalling it on a 32 bit system - lol, not gonna do 64 ) and will see if I can get it to use the .mp4 files in the screensaver without erroring. In the meantime, I went ahead and placed this topic as [RESOLVED] only becasue that the problem has been pinpointed on my cab as what seems to be a codec issue. Last night, I tested with all the MAME avi video files I downloaded from Emumovies, and it worked very well as expected . After I finish reinstalling the codec pack from Shark007 and test it out again, I will post my results Thanks again GameEx team for all your hard work and efforts!! Draco1962
Hey thumansevolution - just a quick follow-up with you to see how things are working out with the .mp4 video tests.
thurmansevolution
Hello Draco1962 I apologize for the long delays - I just returned here yesterday...for the past couple of weeks, I've been finishing moving and then, of course, cussing at the tv during the olympics lol I'm definitely thinking its a codec issue at this point...I've changed Shark007 to all the recommended settings, but it still looks like there is an issue going on with .mp4s and the screensaver. I ended up just leaving the screensaver videos as AVI and using MP4 as the video snaps in GameEx....AVIs take up a bit more space, but I have about 500 gigs to play around with lol.GO TEAM USA!! lol

thurmansevolution
I agree adultery! Lol, there were times when I wanted to get an american flag and run with it through my living room! This has been a great olympics for us! And I'm already ready for us to light up the gold in 2014 when we go to Russia for the winter games! Edited September 17, 2012 by Draco1962 This thread is now closed.
