I didn't see anything in the FAQ and I tried searching the forums but didn't find anything - I apologize if it's been asked before.

I want to use GameEx to run external programs. I've purchased quite a few GOG.com games and I'd love to put them in the emulation cabinet. I haven't seen a way to do this. Am I just missing it or can it even be done? Is this something that may be planned for a future release?

7th Guest still is awesome by the way. :)

You can run these in GameEx just like you would batch files. I created a shortcut to all my GOG.com games or any other PC game and put them in a seperate folder. Then setup GameEx (Brief example run down):

Working Path: c:\my shortcuts

ROM Path: c:\my shortcuts\

ROM Filter: *.* or you could use *.lnk

Command Line: ""[ROMPath]\[RomFile]""

Map Keys=NO

Show Desktop=YES

Thats essentially it. Hope that helps

I hope you'll forgive me but I don't know exactly what to do with the coding above.

I just ran through the Advanced setup and didn't see where I would set this. Do I add it to one of the config files manually?

I put all the GOG shortcuts in C:\GOG to get ready. Got that much done. :)

EDIT: Never mind. I got it. :) That is exactly what I needed thank you!

EDIT #2: Do you have 7th Guest installed? Every time I try to run it I get the Trilobyte splash screen then it pops back to GameEx BUT it is still running in the background which is killing the mouse control. I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL to close them both.

Is there a way to disable the Trilobyte splashcreen? If so try that as It could be that the game is loaded in a seperate process ie in the background while the splash is displayed therefor once the splash is killed gameex will think the game has exited and regain focus.

I maybe barking up the wrong tree but it's something to consider =)

The 7th Guest command line is actually a ScummVM line if I am reading the shortcut right:

target="C:\Program Files\GOG.com\The 7th Guest\SCUMMVM\scummvm.ini" t7g <-- This loads a batch file.

The batch file only consists of "@v !" which I assume are parameters for the v.exe file.

Ooh! Just had a thought... Maybe I should just go through all the GOG games I have and run them directly through ScummVM. It would be annoying to set up but anyone else think that would be the best bet?

ScummVM is the way to go. 7th Guest runs great through it.

Thanks. It runs perfectly. I have that and Gobliiins running through ScummVM directly. The rest run normally via the shortcuts.

One last question that is kind of related... I have anime music videos I want to play via the GameEx Video option. Now they all play a preview but when I play them I only get the audio. I get a blank screen. I gave up and downloaded VLC media player and that works great. Just wondering what I may have missed. Possibly a CODEC pack someone could recommend? :)

Aside from that I am 100% completed on my GameEx setup. I want to thank everyone for their help. :)

I recommend the Shark007 codec pack (if running Win 7 x64, there is a companion 64-bit pack that also needs to be downloaded and installed). Others recommend Klite, however, I have had better luck with Shark007 and less problems.

I tried Shark007 and nothing changed. I still get video previews but GameEx won't actually play them. I'll just stick with launching VLC since that is working fine.
