Hello,

I have everything running perfectly well within GameEx. So tonight I figured it was time to do my last step which is to use Instant Shell so I can boot right into GameEx.

I installed it and it works great EXCEPT for the fact that when I escape out of GameEx to get to my desktop, the entire screen just goes black. I can bring up my task manager BUT my mouse cursor is completely gone!

Now what? Why isnt the sheller program letting me get back to normal?????

HELP!

I'm seriously screwed here. I cannot get my desktop back to normal at all. Not even in safe mode. Everything is just black.

Does anyone know a way out of this?

I had this same exact problem too, scared the crap out of me. GameEx would just keep re-loading. Don't worry it's possible to fix, I did. Hmmm how did I fix it though, can't really remember. Do you have another machine you can sneak in over the network? Remote desktop over and GameEx should crash on the Remote desktop sceen allowing you to end the Instant shell process? I foget, might have just kept hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del and got lucky though.

Well, InstantSheller replaces the normal windows shell (Explorer, AKA your Desktop) with GameEx. That's what it's supposed to do. To get back to a desktop when you use GameEx as the shell, exit GameEx, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Run Program. Type Explorer and hit OK. That will launch the desktop and you can do whatever you need to do.

Hope that helps,

Thanks, but when I do that the mouse cursor stays hidden which makes it really hard to deal with. Is there any way to get the cursor back when leaving gameex?

Thanks,

Craig

One of the things InstantSheller does is change your mouse cursor to a really small black dot. You can change it back by using the mouse control panel but you'd probably be better off just uninstalling InstantSheller. The only reason you would want it is to get rid of the windows stuff and it doesn't sound like you want to. I just run my gameex from startup and use some of the easier changes to hide the windows look (hidden taskbar, black background and a replacement startup graphic), that way you can get to windows easily to do maintenance or run other programs.
