Hello. i just got done building my touchscreen jukebox. looking for a good frontend. i downloaded gameex demo to check it out because i read it supports touchscreens. Well i cant get it to work right. when clicking on an item in the menu it selects the item but doesnt load it unless i wierdly rub my hand back and forth over the menu item. i have mouse enabled and touchscreen enabled. my touchscreen does work properly with all other apps i try. its just this app doesnt behave properly to taps and double taps. im using an elo monitor and serial drivers. what could be wrong?

i just want to be able to select menu items with a single touch. i dont have too much time invested in this frontend at this time so if it cant do it i appreciate any feedback.

I haven't tried using a touchscreen with GameEx. Have you tried double-tapping, like double-clicking to open a program? If it works by double-tapping, it might just be a configuration thing with the driver. I remember having a similar problem when our grocery store installed their self-checkout registers.... None of the tapping worked unless they double-tapped. Found out (and was yelled at for it) that there was a setting in the driver that needed to be enabled that said something like "assume all taps are doubles". You might also need to check your double tap speed in the mouse controller drivers.

If that's not it, it might be something to do with the fact you have mouse AND touchsceen enabled. It just sounds wierd that you would need to have both enabled, and might be causing a conflict.

Something else that might be causing the problem is the license. A lot of features aren't really available to free users. The touchscreen functionality might be a registered only feature.

But again, I've not tried using a touchscreen with GameEx, so these suggestions might not even be helpful. I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually though, since you say it DOES work when you go back and forth on the item. Maybe somebody else here on the forums can help out.

I found an example of a bartop running GameEx in this thread at the Arcade Controls Forum. You could probably help us to help you decide by telling us exactly what you want to run on it. It may be that you need to incorporate a mouse splitter to allow for more than one "mouse" control. Additionally, many bartops with touch screen also have wireless game pads configured for other games that do not lend themselves well to touch screen controls of any kind.

im running just popcap games and albumplayer. not running mame games. i have two uprights for that. dont need game controlers. just touch only.

everything else runs fine except this gameez frontend. I can control windows 7 on it and onscreen keyboard in windows 7 works fine. Ive tried the double tapping. Ive tried everything.

this isnt going to workout. Ill have to use something else. thanks guys. I dont really need all the features gameex does anyways. something more basic will work. If the free version doesnt do it why would i pay to get something that may or may not work. The way i look at it i demoed it and it didnt work out. the solution that the pay version has more features does not convince me to buy when i cant even get basic click functionality working...?! i dont understand that recommendation. thanks anyways guys for the replies .

yeah i read that thread. Guy at the bottom is using Hyperspin. I\ll give that a go. i never noticed that before....thanks for pointing that thread back out to me :)

If others have made it work, then I think it can for you. I mean, you just joined and posted 2 days ago. There is a dearth of experience here that has yet to logon and read through the latest forum posts. It may take a little work to get to a solution. Of course, it is entirely your choice. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you're jumping ship. If you change your mind and decide to try again, we'll be here for ya.

It was working for me before I decided to disable the feature...

arcadepcnut if your reading this, I will happily help you if you would like. I at least quickly come onto the forum pretty much every day but if you are wanted some help, I am sure I will be able to provide you with reliable and quick support (I could very well need Draco's & Adultery's help however but, you know, they pretty much live for these situations XD lol, seriously though, yeah, they're cool and VERY helpful).

Its difficult for me to test touchscreen support, well without a touchscreen, but GameEx touschreen support need two presses to select menu and list items. The first press focuses onto the item and the second press selects it. This is so you can see the preview image/video, and descriptions and for the menu it scrolls it into position if required. Maybe this is not the preferred way to do things or may be the second press is not working but I think this is the first complaint.

nice! glad i checked back. hyperspin doesnt work on a touchscreen only computer so i abandoned it. gameex is definately the way to go as far as looks and features. you fix it ill pay $17 to register. i mean 17$ isnt alot to "pay" you to fix the functionality but its the least i can do. would you like me to test for you? please pm or email me if you would.

I didnt abandon as fast as it looks here. i tested for about 3 days and read posts BEFORE i even signed up on the forums. you all seem like a helpful bunch. So for that i thank you.

Glad to see you back! The latest release may work better for you now - please give it a try and let us know how it works out for you. There are not many touchscreen users that frequent the forum actively so any feedback you can provide helps us to help others going forward.

i downloaded 12.16 version and will install it and test and report back.

Update:

I installed. But it acts very similar to the last version. 1 click selects the menu item then another "rub" selects the item. maybe its my particular monitor? Double click does not work. its more like a click then a slight side to side rub. the problem with that is other "laymen" will be using this device so it needs to be somewhat straightforward....hence the reason for a frontend in the firstplace.

maybe i cant do a doubleclick? or maybe a doubleclick doesnt register correctly on my system? in windows 7 a doubleclick launches programs off the desktop sucessfully.

i did verify im running 12.16 is this the version i should be testing with?

UPDATE UPDATE:

it appears 12.16 is the version i need to run for fixed touchscreen support.

I tried

No mouse yes touchscreen

yes mouse yes touchscreen

yes mouse no touchscreen

in the configuration options.

None seemed to make any difference in the doubleclick scenario i mentioned above. what exactly does touchscreen = yes do?

[Disclaimer - I'm not very PC savvy but I am learning as I go]

It works great for me, I have Mouse set to yes and Touchscreen set to yes. My experience with it was exactly how Tom described it should be and it felt really smooth - not sure why I disabled it actually. I have uploaded a video here - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xllhll_touchscreen-test_videogames hopefully it's effective at portraying my time with it.

Now I'm pretty sure "Enable mouse" NEEDS to be set to yes as our touchscreens are classed as a mouse. Furthermore, I am not exactly sure what the "Enable touchscreen" option does but its description says "changes the clicking behaviour of the mouse", from that I guess it makes it easier for us touchscreen users to use (or at least some touchscreen users). But yeah, I had it on and it was working great.

Now I imagine it is to do with your touschscreen's settings. What have you got enabled/disabled? I have also got an Elo and the settings that seemed to be important and what I had them set to are as followed:

Untouch Timeout - 10 seconds

Mouse Button Emulation Mode - Mouse emulation

Adultery/Draco do you have any more ideas?

Could we be butting heads with a driver issue? Is the latest driver installed for the monitor?

I think you're on the right track Dan. I was particularly interested in the settings for the touchscreen in the control panel. Arcadepcnut?

i saw your video. as simple as it looks thats not how its working for me. I have a 3m touchscreen and using latest 3m drivers. All icons and internet explorer and basically every program i try loads and doubleclicks fine except for gameex

I have uploaded a video to my website.

http://www.nnmodels.com/breaktime/touchscreen.mov

its 50 megs. i dont know how to upload to a video site like you did for yours so right now you will have to download it to watch it.

what it shows is gameex loaded. me tapping and trying to doubletap. I finally get it to register the doubletab by "rubbing" side to side on the screen. that is only way to get it to register doubletab. I dont have many setting in controls for my touchscreen but i tried changing them all. nothing effects this behavior.

Im at a loss.

I do have touchscreen and mouse enabled in gameex inputs. any ideas from anyone?

Just in case there is a conflict with your mouse and touchscreen controls, have you tried removing your mouse to see if that improves the input from the touchscreen?

okay. i changed theme to default. i thought i was using default theme. but went to theme picker and chose theme default. i installed the executable you provided and unfortunately same results

sorry about that. i didnt see that you needed it. Here it is. i reset touch controller to factory defaults and removed and reinstalled and recalibrated touchscreen. here is logfile.

I hope you can come up with something. im wondering if the you are expecting the click to be in a certain exact location? because when doubleclicking with a finger the "mouse" cursor moves slightly everytime. you cant click in the exact same spot with a finger.
