I am having problems displaying Snap video files on my Mame pc. Snaps shows up fine but I cant seem to make the video snaps show. I have tried Mp4 low and high quality and even tried Avi files to no prevail. It shows up fine on my laptop however.

I am using the following hardware:

Intel Core 2 duo E7600

4gb DDR3

Corsair 60gb SSD 2.5 sata

Gagabyte GA-G41MT motherboard with on board graphics card ( i have a Ati 4350 comming in the post which I plan to use with an Ipac in my jamma cab)

Windows media player works fine and can play the video outside of gamex. But I can seem to get gamex to run the videos on the menu.

Any help would be grately appreciated.

Did you get the Shark007 codec pack and install it?

Did you get the Shark007 codec pack and install it?

I installed ffdshow codec. It plays fine using my windows media player so I thought it wasnt a codec problem.

You will want to uninstall ffdshow and go to the Shark 007 Codec site (it has ffdshow as part of its install). Additionally, if you are running Windows 7 x64 version, you will also want to install the x64 codec pack as well.

FFDshow is part of the Vista codec pack. If you wanted my suggestion, uninstall FFDShow and install Shark007. We can proceed from there.

If snaps work and video doesn't it's more likely than not a codec problem.

:EDIT: Drac got me on that one! Lol!

I just installed the shark007 codec and its still the same :(

I can see the video's playing when in the menu but when I go to MAMEgames list the videos doesnt play only the snaps shows. I have set up the config to point to the right directories. When I clear the snaps directory nothing shows.

Ok, so you can see the video play in the main page, but when you go to that game in the list it only shows a snap instead of the video?

We're only talking mame games right? Emulators don't have this problem? Is that game in your favorites list or you saying you can see the video when you mouse over the game in the actual game list? You are sure you have the paths right? Can you try and put the video snaps in the same folder as the static ones and see if they show? Can you post your log please?

I somehow got the video snaps to work.... Don't ask how but I did. (not sure how lol)

Now there is another problem. I notice that when you go into the games list menu the video snaps seem to take forever to show up. I also notice that the ones right at the end i.e Z seems to load up first. It takes a several minutes for all the videos to show up. Is this normal?

Not sure how to send my logs. I tried to use the steps in the sticky but that only works if you have set up an emulator in the config. I set up mame from the Set up Mame menu rather than add it in the emulator.

That may be a limitation of your onboard graphics card. I'd have to look up the specs to know for sure.

Typically onboard graphics just don't get the job done.

You can view your gameex log from the utilities folder in the start menu. Just copy and paste it into a post. :)

okay I understand. I had a feeling it might have been the onboard graphics that is causing the problem. Thanks for the help everyone. I will know for certain when my grpahics card arrive in the post. Will mark this thread as Resolved. :D
