  1. Thanks Draco, but... in gameex.ini I can only find the entries UseModel2=True Model2PATH=C:\Emulators\Model2 which are also modifiable in the Setup wizard. I can't find an entry for the command line (?). Am I missing something?
  2. Hi guys, I can't get Sega model 2 emulation to work. When using integrated model 2 support, GameEx launches the emulator (newest emulator version 1.1a) but won't start the specified rom. When checking runitgame.bat I noticed the command line being emulator_multicpu.exe hotd -nocheat -video ddraw This command line is not working outside of GameEx either. When modifying the command line to emulator_multicpu.exe hotd everything works as expected. I checked with different roms in different locations so I'm pretty sure that this is not a rom path or roms issue. I'd appreciate if anybody could give me a push in the right direction on why this isn't working for me. Probably something on my end since I didn't see threads on this. Or, alternatively, is there a way to modify the command line that GameEx generates? Thanks a lot! GameEx.ini log.txt EMULATOR.INI
  3. Had the day off and took the time to rebuilt my GameEx setup. After a lot more testing I could actually nail the problem. As strange as it may sound, if there's a special character in "Title Text" in any emulator the above Daphne behavior occurs. I tried a colon ":", not sure if this applies for other characters. I have not the slightest clue why this is the case but could replicate it reliably. Anyway, everything's working now and I have a new clean GameEx setup This one is RESOLVED. @tthurman Thanks for your help!
  4. Update After more testing I found a clean GameEx install to be working perfectly with the exact same Daphne setup. So, unless someone here can point me in the right direction I'm going to rebuild my (5-year-old) GameEx setup. Probably a good idea anyway to clean up every now and then. Thanks anyway!
  5. Hi guys, I recently added Daphne to my setup. I'm using the built in GameEx function and have trouble launching Daphne games. Outside of GameEx, everything is working fine. I'm having no trouble whatsoever launching Daphne games per command line. When (inside of GameEx) opening the "Laserdisc Games" menu, the games list is populated as expected. However, when opening a game's detail page (let's say for Astron Belt) GameEx shows a completely empty page like in screenshot 1 below. Cursor movement on this page is not possible. When exiting this page and immediately opening Astron Belt again, it shows the right page like in screenshot 2 below. When opening the game, GameEx goes black and that's it. The game is not called, runitgame.bat is completely empty and daphne.exe is never called (as seen in the Task Manager). GameEx appears to be still running, I can close GameEx directly with the Esc key. I'm using Custom Menus but disabled them for trouble shooting. Behavior is the same with or without Custom Menus. I reinstalled GameEx. I tried another theme (Default - Default). Any ideas on this are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! smario GameEx.ini log.txt
  6. ... to be precise that was a total of 11 barrel stages (probably wishful thinking on my part )
  7. Time to bump the DK thread with my new score of 180,300 points (level 6-6). This one really went well. I conquered a total of 16 barrel stages without losing a single life. No lives lost on elevator stages as well. I noticed, though, that rivet stages, as easy as they may seem at the beginning of the game are a real challenge later on. And let's not talk abount the conveyor stages - they are still a mystery to me. Sometimes you get that free pass to the top right while on other times all ways are blocked by the firefoxes. I have yet to figure out a strategy for those... 3rd spot, right behind the DK pros
  8. I don't have any experience with WolfMame, but I'm using the record parameter on standard Mame. Simply add -record "[ROM].inp" in the MAME Options entry in the Advance MAME Settings section of the Setup Wizard. Does this help for WolfMAME?
  9. Finally I managed to complete the game! I’ve been playing this one for months, R-Type is now most played game on my cab. In my last run everything came together, even the pesky stage 5 boss didn’t kill me this time and I got a whopping 120K bonus for beating the stage 7 boss alone. I’m therefore proud to annouce my new score of 618,000 points. Being one of probably only 3 gamers in the world without in-depth R-Type experience, I found it rewarding to dig into the game. To learn and constantly refine the pixel-perfect flight path and split-second timing needed to succeed really made me appreciate the accomplishment R-Type is. A truly great game!
  10. Yeah, that did the trick. The plugin now opens via the plugin manager! (but not via the Setup Wizard/Repository Manager - although the error message is gone, it briefy shows the gui but then kind of vanishes...). Never mind - I have enough to give it a try and will report back when I have done a little tinkering. Thanks a lot stigzler!
  11. Still no luck... Here's the (manually converted) error message:
  12. Still no luck... I tried CustomLists 1.0.1 with the Plugin Manager. Exactly the same behavior. I'm wondering if it is something on my end, like missing libraries or such. Are there any prerequisites for running the plugin?
  13. @stigzler Firstly, thanks a lot for providing this much needed feature! I'm eager to give it a spin, however when opening the plugin in the setup wizard it crashes. Any ideas? I've attached the Windows error message (it's German, you should get the point though - if not I'd happily translate) and the Data.xml from the PLUGINS\CustomLists folder. Win10 error message: Thanks a lot for looking into this! smario Data.xml
  14. My wrist hurts.... here's my first score: 347,500 This game is demanding, to say the least. But it's so very good, only surpassed by Raiden 2 (which is one of my all time faves). I recommend the following: Stay with the blue gun; its stopping power more than makes up for its limited lateral range. Also, against common recommendation, I use the M missiles in the first stage to get rid of the bosses quickly Stay in the lower half of the screen and always move; NEVER (that's with a big exclamation mark) try to go for the weapons, instead let them come to you. If you miss them, you miss them. I don't know how many deaths I died reaching for the extras It's NOT cool to die with four bombs; use them! Right before the second river there's a tree on the far right which you can shoot; out comes a flying ... thingy which gives back all your weapons the first time you die
  15. I have been playing R-Type constantly in the last 2 weeks and ever so slowly I'm getting better. My last run got me as far as level 7 with a new score of 308,800. A quick thought on stage 6: While in terms of level design R-Type is being hailed mainly for level 3 with its iconic battle against the giant mothership, I find stage 6 is where this game shines brightest. This level is different from almost everything I've seen in shmups so far, almost no bullets or enemies, only the maze with the big, nearly-indestructable ships which you have to dodge. A maze game within a shmup! Truly great stuff.
  16. After a long absence from R-Type I decided to come back and try and bump my score. I spent the better part of the weekend to familiarize myself with stages 3 to 5 and achieved a new score of 264,400. R-Type really rewards knowledge of the stages and enemy patterns!
  17. I had another good run - 181,060 (loop 3 stage R) As I was suspecting loop 3 is the same as loop 2 in terms of terrain and obstacles and the general way in which enemies appear. However, it seemed that the enemy flotillas consist of more saucers which certainly drop more bombs (aaargh!).
  18. Managed to get into level 3 for the first time last night. Judging from what little I saw of level 3 I reckon the champion stage loops indefinitely. Can anyone confirm this? That would mean once you developed strategies for every section of the champion stage your scores would rise rapidly, wouldn't it? 134,710
  19. I was trying to boost my DK score last night, but ended up frustrated cause I couldn’t score worth a damn, was dying stupid deaths galore and overall seemed to completely have forgotten how to play that game. I then decided to play MP for just one run, for practice, to not get too rusty. But boy, this single run really went well. I didn’t lose a single life until stage F in the champions course and even had 3 lives left after that pesky minefield at M. You really get a lot of points after like halfway through the course, with the time cap at 120 seconds and getting 800 to 1000 bonus points for shooting down each saucer flotilla. Anyway, I really dig this one! Happy Easter to all of the community! 119,040
  20. Finally made it past stage J in the champions course... only to discover not one but two new minefields 96,310
  21. 1st! (although most likely not for very long ) 80,360
  22. Getting accustomed to this one... you can actually dodge almost all of those bombs by going slower or faster... I like this game! 73,650
  23. Probably too special, but I'd really love to play Gradius or Gradius II. Oh, and Raiden II. And Wonder Boy
  24. ... sneaking up on 4th spot 165,100
  25. I never played this in the old days, but this game sure does make quite a lot of things right... I especially like the tune [dum-dum-DUM-du-dum] 49,680
