Okay first off this is a disturctive script, so be CAREFUL! *Update* Major changes to the script...its now a lot safer of a script to use and frankly a lot more powerful and user friendly. Archives inside of archives are safe now. The behavior of the script now is that any archive on the same directory level as the script will be extracted into a folder bearing the same name of the archive, then that archive is deleted....then the script checks all folders on its level for more archives...any archives found in those folders will be extracted with in the same folder...then deleted. In all cases if a like named file is encountered it will be overwritten. If you want to keep the original archives...back them up prior to using this script because they will be deleted upon execution of the script. The script only goes one level down...so a folders deeper than that...will not be touched. script.au3 sample.rar <-extracted to folder "sample" folder\sample.rar <-extracted with in current folder folder\folder\sample.rar <-untouched

Yeah 16:9 only came to mind because of my laptop. Well if you'll compile a list of popular arcade rez's I'll look into doing up some...as I'm cabless in Seattle...hehe so I'm not in the know about them. Doing some thing like 10 different rez's is fine by me...I just don't want to be doing all possible. 8( Hehe I still earned brownie points off that eh. Oh some other tools that might be useful to have tuts for: HashTab QuickPAR QuickSFV Okay here is one that most probably never thought about using....Link Shell Extension. Actually let me give a little why one would want to use hard links. Lets say you have a video of game play for Street Fighter Alpha...now you have several Emu's that run this game, and you want to have the video displayed for each of the Emu's. Now since GameEx generally only supports files from one directory, instead of multiple...you would general have to make multiple copies of the video to use...this can eat up a lot of space quickly, or different Emu's use different naming schemes. This is where hard links become a blessing. Think of them basically like shortcuts, execpt more closer to the metal so to say. Basically you have only one real physical instance of the video file, but you have a number of shortcuts from the other Emu's to that file, this makes every thing seemless to GameEx. Hope that explains them...sort of...

21up - You can find a fair amount of info @ easyEmu tho lingpanda video's are a lot more flash, and easier to follow along with. lingpanda - I look forward to the theme tut's as I will be giving that a go my self here in the next week. Tho I do wonder if there is any interest in 16:9 formated themes...or if I should just stick to 4:3...any ways. Well with GameEx as with most FE's the bulk of the new users are clueless about every thing...once some one has learned every thing required...they have their FE of choose setup...and are not likely to change to a different one for giggles. I started out with MameWah...and had it most of the way setup...then lost interest as it just seemed like to much work...tho I'm sure I missed some thing...the sheer amount of files I was working with was insane. A year or so later I stumbled upon GameEx and things have over all clicked with me and this FE. Hmm lost the point I was looking to make...oh yeah...hehe...the point is that for a new user...they are starting at ground zero and working their way up the food chain to the icing on the cake which is the FE...in our case GameEx. I've been toying with the idea of doing of rather extensive doc's for GameEx...but I need to learn InDesign & Acrobat fully before I do...figured if I was going to get out of hand with printed doc's...the presentation should be out of hand as well. Any ways thanks for taking the time to create these tut's for those looking to get in the know about things. *Update* Checked out the tut...and it looked good.

Heh if you want more I'm sure I can manage to build up a rather large list. What DAT's are, and the different app's that use them. How to use ClrMame Pro. How to use RomCenter. How to use GoodMerge. How to use Tim. Where to find DAT's. Where to find Art Work. Where to find Video's. How to create Art Work. How to create Video's. How to create Theme's. How to import\export Emu profile INI's. How to use helpful Shell Extensions [Command Box, Grab Path, Run Program (with arguments)] Synesis Software How to use Batch Scripts. How to use AutoHotKey. How to use AutoIt. <- prefered script lang How to use JavaScript. How to use WSH Scripts. How to use File Renaming App's. FlexRena Rename Master Flash Renamer<-prefered ... Maybe I'll add more later...but starting to feel like an ass.

Heh you sure you want to ask such a question? You could go through and explain in detail how to work with filters, virtual CD\DVD drives, commandline setup for Emu's...the use of wrappers, proper methods of setting up a sane file directory structure, how to create custom *.map files and why this might be disired, understanding region codes and other markup in the naming of roms, different formats that roms come in (binary, 7zip, iso, iso+wav, iso+mp3,...)

Well finally got around to doing some work on the new GBA Crawler....primary coding is done...tho the long.txt file it generates currently doesn't mesh with the current GBA Leech...tho that should be simple to fix. Any ways tomorrow afternoon I should have things ready to go for you and anyone else. It should be more independant of me once done...and far less maintance required...this will likely spill over into the other ones as well. *Update* I've attached a early build...should work but untested...I had an error while making the long.txt...but I can not find where the error is...so you maybe minus one games art...maybe...it was early on...so for those that already leeched with the prior script and text...they should be fine...but those just doing it now...who knows. I'll try and get this all nailed down tomorrow.
-
Yeah I'll look into updating it...and creating a script to grab the required info to auto generate a the file.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 is a good pick. As for the PhysiX card...its generally useless...very few PC games make use of it...and no Emu's that I"m aware of. It does do as mentioned prior...but stuff has to be written for it...and AMD and Nvidia are currently adding in the same such ablities into thier video cards...so by the time it becames mainstream...it will be available already in the newer video cards...any ways long story short, buy as nice of a cpu as you can and skip the physic's accelerator....or update the video card being used.

No problem and your welcome. Actually I've since decided to build a HTPC with it, which I should have all the base parts together for it by the middle of next week. Tho I can already see this is going to get expensive for me. Its going to be a 6 HDD system...but later on I'll be putting those in a RAID5 array, and adding two 4 HDD external RAID5 array enclosers or maybe one 8 HDD unit...but rebuild time for the array should a drive fail...would be kind of ugly.

Michael your in part right...the problem is they need to know what section to goto in the first place. I personally happy to see lingpanda put forth the effort in such a way to help users. I've been around computers for some time...well since the first PC. When I'm looking to learn how to do some thing new, I use a number of resources depending on the subject and my experince with the subject. If its some thing I'm more or less a master of, I'll simply google it or open up a book from O'Reilly. If its some thing I need some depth on I'll open books from Wrox or O'Reilly...if I'm a noob on the suject I'll generally refer to video training by Total Training, Learnkey, AppDev, Lynda, CBT Nuggets,...so for me there is no hard and cold way to get the right anwser. Any ways I personally think its got good merit...and hopefully some time to day I'll actually be able to provide some feed back.
-
Well its good to see it get a good review, but it could have added a bit more depth. Any ways congrats.

HT isn't going to net you any thing or at best very very little with the PCSX2 emu. HT from what I understand is just a trick to keep the registers of the CPU full more often...so in some apps its like running dual P4's non-HT...hehe or a single AMD64. Really its not worth the time and effort...if you can get it for a few bucks $5-15 then I'd say go for it...but if its going to run you any kind of real money...I'd skip it and save up to get one of the newer dual core cpu's. Ideally one of the new intel core 2 cpu's as they seem to be beating the AMD64 X2's fairly well...which I have one of...and it performs well...but if your going to spend the money...its best to get the best bang for the buck...and right now thats Intel with its Core 2. To give you a bit of an idea on how things stand performance wise. Using Quake 4 the PC game as a reference, bench marks ran as CPU dependant as possible and with SMP enabled, HT gained 15-20% in performance compared to when SMP was disabled, and all dual core cpu's doubled thier scores when SMP was enabled. Keep in mind these are over all...in some area's none of them showed gains. If it comes down to doing nothing or some thing...then do something and get the HT...if thats not the case...then save up and buy a dual core cpu. Actually for a reference to how things are check the following link. Keep in mind the the Pentium D is a dual core processor if I do recall...and while Emu's are not performing the work load as rendering a 3D scene...its kind of in the same area since its generally software rather than hardware rendering. Actually I have an AMD64 3200+ laying around its like the fourth stepping if that bin speed, its socket 939. It should be faster than what you currently have or a HT enabled one...tho this is still a single core cpu. Its all yours if you want it, but I'd want funds for shipping. How ever you would still need to buy a motherboard and ram to support it. I honestly suggest saving up some dough and buying the cheapest of the newer Intel Core 2 cpu's tho for your gaming rig\cab...even more so with that ps2 emu.

User Submitted Themes & Media (Uploads)

Okay I did up some title shots for Raine...its not a complete set as there where issues with some of the titles...and some just didn't work even tho they are part of the complete release....oh well. Raine mini titles GameEx small titles GameEx med. titles Any ways its a nice jump up from the original 200+ to now 500+ -
LOL nah don't do that...I much rather answer your questions, as that way you can be more active answering other peoples questions...hence take the load off me (should it ever develope) since your a very active member of the forum. I'm all up for helping out those that help others and are active here. So I'll try to answer possible questions dealing with what you have quoted. Map files These are files that GameEx creates its self normally these are found by default in C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA. They are typically named EMU_1.map, EMU_2.map, EMU_3.map,... these numbers I believe correspond with what the Emu entry is in the Advanced Configuration application...tho don't quote me. Now these are plain jane ASCII file...ie standard text files with the file extension changed from .txt to .map so there is nothing magical about these files and they can be altered with any text editor, including the lowly Notepad text editor. Tho for a light weight free text editor I suggest Ted Pad or a free mid weight one such as NoteTab Light or for a free heavy weight editor I suggest PS Pad...or my prefered editor...which is not free UltraEdit32 and all but the first support regex (regular expressions). The data format these files use is RomName "GameName" you'll notice a single white space then quoted text. The quoted text is whats displayed inside of GameEx, while what preceeds it is the file name to pass to the emulator. Now when I say modified map file...basically it means I'm removing information that would other wise be there from the quoted text, which would other wise be seen by GameEx. Now as to the subject of regex or more correctly regular expression I'll defer to Wikipedia and Regular-Expressions.Info Hehe I know cheating on the last bit...but what the hey...it saves me a butt load of typing.
-
Okay here is a script to create a modified map file...at present all it does is remove release numbering as well as regional and release text. Saves some regex work basically. Well let me know if there are issues...this also requires the release dat file.
-
As promised here is the Crawler as part of the toolset. It still needs a little work but its mostly there. This requires the dat file from advanscene for thier NDS Release's. How ever the one this build is based off of...is included. This also already has a predone Long.txt...but you can run the application to see how it creates the file. I'll update this script later to make it more user friendly in the future, as well as more quicker to create updated Long.txt files. Plus do not abuse this file...or make it wide spread.
-
Sorry to hear about your issue...I'd pitch in but I'm all jammed up with stuff...but if this is still unresolved in a few weeks I'll look into it and see if I can help...as the system I'm using right now only does a single monitor.
-
Okay first part of the NDS version of the Leech aspect...I'll hopefully be posting in fairly short order the Crawler aspect. Oh this does have some what of a GUI...I got annoyed with not knowing what was going on...so now there is a bit of feedback. I may expand on it later...the GUI that is.
-
Well I recall that field developing fairly fast during the DotCom...then again what wasn't. AT&T where the only guys throwing real money and R&D at it...but haven't touched it since 97 or so. Maybe some day it will finally hit the mark.
-
Well went looking for text to speech voices...but came up a little short...maybe this market is becoming smaller....any ways here is a link to where you can buy a few packages.
-
ok Doh! was a little tired earlier...so a belated congrats on landing a new job.
-
Well I took a peak at it, and it does look like it would be a lot nicer to use than my scripts...but I'm looking at other places to leech from as well. Right now I'm reworking my crawler script...which is some thing you haven't seen prior...the original blew...but it worked fairly decent...this newer version should ideally be much faster and less error prone...and much easier to adapt to other sites. With luck an hour or so after I finish the NDS script I'll have the PSP one done.
-
Oh its not that much...I just tend to ramble. Yeah I haven't a clue ether...I know next to nothing about ClrMame...I understand what it does and how it does it...I just don't know the application is all. Hehe I am a noob to all this stuff after all. I actually favor myself as more of a graphic artist...than a wannabe programmer. How ever I need to get stuff working correctly first and foremost...after that tho...I'll see about doing some fairly highend themes up.
-
emphatic - I would imagine if the author grants his plug-in to be distributed with GameEx it will be...who knows...maybe some stuff would get merged...to early to say I would imagine. headkaze - Yeah it skips most of it. Really I think you should code it up as a replacement for the "Advanced Configuration", but have it accept a commandline option to send it into Setup mode...that way during installation the installer can invoke that CLI option and then things continue as they have been. Well maybe I'll gab your ear off on this some other time...I'm working on a few things right now...and don't want to get side tracked.
-
The Setup Wizard is fine speed wise (redraw between pannels is a little slow for some reason tho)...but you jump through a few hoops before you get to what you need to do. Hehe hell I use to program in assembler way back in the day...C++ is a fast programming lang to me. I'm just slow getting back into things...been 15 years for me...and writing autoit scripts for the past two years has been about as indepth as I've been. Any ways we'll see...but it'll have to wait till my system comes home...because this one is just about ready to go flying out the window.
