  1. Is there a way to turn off the animation zooms/swishes that occur when you select items? Just want a quick switch, no need to do the fade/blend/etc. I feel like I had it set that way before, but can't find a setting for it now.
  2. So...I had autoupdate turned off and somehow - not certain how - I got an update a few weeks back and didn't realize it. Restarted my cabinet today and it came up as raw GameEx, theme was gone. I reopened the SetupWizard and NONE of the themes I had - including the one I did myself - show up. I then found a backup folder made from the autoupdate (I think), reverted GameEx, and the themes reappeared - so good so far. However, my config appears to be gone. So, few questions.... 1. Did a forced update happen (or could one of my kids done this accidentally through a menu item I was unaware of)? The version that was on the machine was older (2014/2015 or so) but it just worked so I didn't want to mess with it. 2. Did the theme format change - or location - that would mean my themes are either invalid or I need to relocate? 3. Any chance the config got backed up somewhere I could try to save? I'd rather not rebuild everything if possible but...guess I'm due for an update anyway. Just kind of a PITA. Thanks in advance for the help.
  3. ...and, with a reinstally, it appears that the old computer I was using has finally started to kick the bucket. Guess it's time to rebuild.
  4. Given the errors I'm getting, it may actually be something hardware related. I just need some time to do the reinstall to test that out and then determine if I need a new PC. FUN!
  5. Hehe...I'm leaning towards the wipe now. I'm seeing WHEA-Logger errors that I never noticed before. It's something related to hardware but I can't figure out exactly what's causing it. It's being reported by my processor core which makes no sense at all....especially since the thing isn't hot. Unless there's some driver issue causing it related to the processor...and if that's the case...I have not a CLUE how to fix it. :/ Really REALLY don't want to reconfig/setup everything. Took so much time the first time...kind of sucks. A lot.
  6. Haha! I saw that same link! No CLSID - just the error with no info. And no software, etc. I'm trying to just remove everything except for the bare minimums and then go from there. The system is completely updated at this point except for my MB drivers...need to confirm they are updated (it's old so they should be). I also removed the second HDD in the machine (the other is a SSD) just to see if the pagefile on that drive is causing issues as noted above. Now I need to try to cause a crash to happen.
  7. Did a memtest and hdd scans, don't seem to be issues there...which is good and bad. It means potentially something screwed up with Windows. Doing a full reinstall won't be fun. Trying to update everything now via Windows update and see if that works. Also, going to try removing USB devices to see if that fixes things and just run super minimal. Fun fun fun. Ah crap...hwinterface.sys load errors coming up in the system logs (Event Viewer). No real error code/source so I don't know what's causing it...damn.
  8. I'm having an odd freezing issue in GameEx that is seemingly random. Basically, everything just locks up. Can't do anything except hard reset the computer to get something to work again. I've checked the logs and there's nothing in there - I'll post them, along with everything else, but I'm wondering if there was a way to activate verbose logging that I might be missing so I can grab that as well.Reason being that I've had this occur just sitting at my main menu (custom menu) and...the log just says 'going back to GameEx' (or the text used for that) after exiting MAME...there's nothing showing what's causing the freeze. I've turned off all screensavers, power savings, etc., as well since I thought that might be causing the issue.
  9. Ah, but that would slow down them being pulled...unless everything is cached. That's kind of my confusion point. I'll take a look at settings and see. Thanks!
  10. So, resurrecting this from the dead. Finally got the SSD (256gb Toshiba one) - the speed increase in GameEx is amazing. The big question I have now is caching and writing to the drive - want to make sure GameEx isn't wearing down the SSD due to some setting I've left on or have one that's causing excessing writing. Any thoughts on that? Any caching I should shut off?
  11. Hrm...actually that brings up an interesting point about caching - how frequently does GameEx 'recache' (read: delete & rewrite the cache) things? If it's often, that could be an issue w/a SSD over time if it's caching a ton of images. If it's just the locations..shouldn't be a big deal. And all of my stuff is local so... ...hrm. Lemme go see if that thing is still on sale. ...and...of course not. Next time. Thanks all!
  12. Yup. Everythings on a local 5200RPM drive now. Just upped the memory on the machine and that did assist some. Defiitely not an issue, just looking for experiences before I drop $$$ on a drive and then it does nothing.
  13. One thing I wasn't sure of is how artwork is cached - wondering if having it on an SSD would be useful or not. The major delays I get (and by major, I mean noticable - not problematic) are at start and when switching between emulators and when I select a game for the 'info' screen to come up. It's most likely just me being anal rentive about speed...but, hell, if I can enhance it might as well.
  14. Yup. Actually turned it completely off at the root folder level (toggled on, then off) and then checked individual files to confirm.
  15. Just curious if anyone is using a SSD w/GameEx and how it impacts list loading and general interface speed. While things are currently working well on my system, if I can get a huge speed boost for list loading, caching at load, etc., I'd love to do so. Also, what do you have on the SSD - everything (art, roms, etc.) or just GameEx? (I'm guessing everything would be needed to get any real boost, but just curious).
  16. Ok, ended up getting it onto another PC. Same exact error.
  17. Nope, not that either. Redid permissions on the folder to change them from default and give user full control over the directory and files, not helping. Also, when running the program as administrator it would override that as an issue as well. (No alternate PC I can move all the files to also)
  18. Just did - same issue. Tried even making a 'Renamed' folder and still happens.
  19. Having a small issue with the program - I keep getting a 'cannot create folder' error when I try to rename. Not completely sure why it's happening (network paths maybe?) Even tried running the program as administrator and same issue.
  20. Can you just tilt the model up at an angle so it spins at an angle? That might work. And that's pretty damn cool.
  21. My question wasn't actually answered I don't think...let me rephrase... Abbreviated version: Can the graphics you set in advanced emulator setup appear in a theme? Theoretically, the answer should be yes or no...I think. I know that GameEx flows down image selection through the folders in the 'basic settings' graphics items, but the description of the advanced setting graphics/files specifically says 'for the info page' I believe - just curious if those are part of the 'flow down' also. UMan: Let me confirm that it's actually happening how you think it is on my setup - because I don't think it does. The 'find anything available' isn't happening on a per game basis - image selection happens at an emu level and does it for all games. (So, GameEx sets BoxArt as Image 1, ScreenShot as Image 2, and Cart as Image 3 for the entire emu screen - it won't change them if somethings now found when browsing).
  22. I'm wondering if all of the art listed in the advanced settings is used for theme images or if only the art listed in basic emulator settings is used? (i.e., are the custom arts used). The reason I ask is I'm wondering if you can use the custom arts to list items you NEVER want to appear in your theme and only as info screen items (e.g, manuals, etc.).
  23. Anyone have any screenshots of what this looks like by chance? I saw the other thread but didn't know exactly what was/wasn't possible. Thanks!
  24. Venom, I think the bezel just needs to be the same aspect ratio as your screen and you should be good to go. Just have it originate from 0,0.
  25. Uman - what I wanted to do was use the GameBase database w/the GameEx theme options...not sure what it came across as asking about. I actually REALLY like the integration of GameBase w/GameEx. The ability to pull in all that info from the GameBase databases is great. I'd like to just have a custom graphic in the background since I'm anal retentive about the theme on my cab - so I want a C64 custom one, a NES custom one, etc. What I'm going to do first is check what overlaps exist and don't exist and what I can do with straight up use of the NES database vs. GameBaseNES. I know I can sync Manuals, so that may completely eliminate any advantages over using GameBase integration at all. This might be true for Atari 2600 and intellivision as well, I just need to dig in and see whats readily available, what I can rename easily, etc. I know it's possible to get all the same info from GameBase into GameEx, it's more of a time/effort thing as Bigby noted. And, my current setup uses no non-customized emu screens, so if I can get it down to ONLY using the generic emu screens for one emulator, then I can make that a custom one since it will only be used for that emulator. ...hopefully that all made sense...little sleep and too much caffeine as of right now.
