looks like its time to dive in and start screwin around

as far as entering the code, its as simple as entering it like you would your initials when you get a hiscore ingame, up down, scrolls through, left right moves on to the next input, same if you could map your MCE remote(i dont have MCE so this is a guess). as far as naming, it was simply just an example, nothing more. That would of course be determined by the individual(s).

both mame and the romsets have evolved and continue to do so with every release, its an ongoing project. Folks would be glad to help out if you would be kind. Rudeness doesnt get you anywhere my friend. Romsets must match the mame version(from reading your post I assume you had roms and mame working fine together). So perhaps to perform a simple test you may want to download a new version of mame and a current rom, and simply try again. Also another note, if you decide to grab a new version of mame, insert the rom inside that folder, and try to load the rom from the command prompt. If you suceed here, then atleast we know mame works for you, then you can move on to gameex and try to set it up as well. Good Luck.

well the code idea works and it shouldnt be a problem to implement i wouldnt think. As far as input characters you can use not only numbrs but use the alphabet as well. Nothing fancy here, no capitals, no !@#$% kind of symbols, just 0-9 a-z. This allows an enormous amount of possible codes. Also make a theme is a great idea, but simply call it "ADMIN Central" or something, to throw off the kids. "Hey dad whats this admin thingy?" your reply --> "Its my setup and other stuff, passworded so no one screws up the controls and settings". You simply make it a 10 keycode pass, much like 64-bit encryption on your router. The passcode would look something like the little windows on NBA Jam where you enter your intials or something, so even THAT is still very much arcade-like. Just my nickels worth, good ideas fellas

well the video engine had just about a complete rewrite since 106u1, perhaps that is what you are after? As far as gameplay goes, alot of stuff got boken, but all the "u" releases has been going through, fixing, optimizing etc etc. Best thing is to download a newer version into a separate folder and test things out to see whats changed, and if it performs on your arcade the same as your current install. Cheers.

works perfect tom, way to go!

yes, thx so much tom. I am going to update cabinet this evening. Thank you very much.

hi tom, i can only attest to this as gameex is not reading the catver.ini to its fullest extent. Whether it is the fe or the catver file I dont know. You are the coder heheheh, but i can certainly try to give you any info to best of my knowledge.

ok to run clrmame here is what i do(note some others may run a few ways different, but ill run you through as best i can) first lets say you have 2 folders #1 is your rom archive(what you already have) #2 is your new roms and other roms you may have downloaded. Now Archive(#1) is here for example: C:\mameroms newroms(#2) is here: C:\newroms first thing you do is of course download a new version of mame, and put it in C:\mame now open up clrmame and click create, point the folder to C:\mame\mame.exe name the profile something like 106u11 once you set it, highlight it and hit load\update, it will now parse mame for correct rom info now you see the clrmame taskbar window click settings and hit add(we are now adding a rom path) which is your rom archive C:\mameroms and hit ok now hit merger and just set "You want to create" to merged sets, and hit ok now hit rebuilder, you have to set 2 paths here make the source C:\newroms(as this is what you are building from) now for destination use C:\mameroms (as this is your archive where you keep your fixed romsets) ok now under "merge options" select merge sets, and under "options" check Rebuild 'nodump' ROMs and then close that window now hit scanner on main toolbar window under "You want to scan" only check sets and roms "you prefer" merged sets "no dump handling" check create missing and check show missing under "check fix" check mark everything and then click checksums, chekcmark run analysis and fix if possible, then close that small window now you just hit scan, and let it scan your roms, if it asks you stuff like"would like clrmame to fix this or fix that or delete this, or rename", just answer yes to all as these things are needed for it to repair them correctly. A note here, you cannot use "Fastscan" until you have atleast scanned once, then you may use fast scan to check items. after the scan has completed, you will see a list either rom(s) or set(s) missing, you simply follow this list and grab any rom or set from where you get your roms, and put them in your newroms folder. then all you have to do is hit the Rebuilder button from main taskbar, and hit rebuild again. this rebuilds your new roms into your archived roms. Once the rebuild is complete, you can use fastscan to see an updated list after the rebuild, if you see no missing roms, you are finished and may delete anything in your newroms folder, because all your correct and good roms are now in C:\mameroms. if it is not complete, you just need to follow the scanned list and download what u need until it shows 0 missing, then you are done. I wrote this as plain as possible, just follow the steps and you are good to go. This method is for merging of romsets(some may not agree with this method, but it works best for me, and keeps romsets neat and tidy) As for your other question about samples, samples are used by games that actuall had sound sample chips on a pcb board. These chips were dumped to file format so that you may have sound for that particular game. They are not required to run a game, but if you do not have them for a particular game that needs them for sound, you will have no sound. Good Luck, just follow the steps and take your time and you will have your roms fixed up in no time.

mame roms are not of the same as zinc roms, unfortunately. It would be nice if they were, but mame either uses or doesnt use roms found in each set and vice versa with zinc. As for clrmame its very simple actually. Post if you have more questions and us folks may be able to get you going right. Cheers.

just grabbed the new version, volume normalization is a huge plus!. Thanks for the great work Tom.

i think it definitely depends on theme(s) used. Some prefer the stock look, most of us like to customize it. Personally, I use a theme to alter the stock look. It still comes down to the eye of the beholder, same as us building our arcade machines. What looks good to me may not appeal to others. Its the #1 reason why I love the word "option"
-
well i guess no one else besides Brian and I have this issue but getting to what Brian posted above, it would indeed be a huge benefit to allow custom categories that you could add or remove, based on info found from your catver.ini file. It would basically be a filters option but exclusively for the categories function. Tom if you could look into this I and others would be grateful to you. Thanks.
-
tom will you be looking into this matter? I think it deserves attention due to the fact that it involves quite a few games not coming into the list under categories. Being as such we only see anything related to Sports / Football as only listing 3 or 4 games, when clearly there are several games not even being shown. This is of a catver.ini nature, and i dont believe its related to filters, as I can see the games appearing in the "All Games" list. Thanks.
-
sounds good, i was sure it wasnt just me I think catver should list all games as simply Sports / Football for soccer and Sports / Am Football it would just be so simple to have 2 categories. and yes they show in all games, because i can play any of them from there(as yard is a jap set)
-
no one else has run into this problem?
-
amos, that is some kick butt work there my friend. Nice job.
-
ok heres the scoop. Cant seem to figure out why certain genres, namely Sports/ Football Amer. doesnt list under categories? Only thing in Sports related shows "Sports/Football Rugby" which shows only 3-5 games. Yet if you go look inside the catver.ini(106u10) you'll see games like this: hardyard=Sports / Football Amer. hardyd10=Sports / Football Amer. hiimpac3=Sports / Football Amer. hiimpacp=Sports / Football Amer. hiimpact=Sports / Football Amer. nflfoot=Sports / Football Amer. yard=Sports / Football Amer. those are a few examples found from catver.ini So can anyone tell me how or why they arent showing in the categories listing, yet all other sports are appearing fine in the list? thanks much for any help.

hello, thx for the tip, I set the path in mame, i set all the others as well in there just like normal before i ever got Ex. Must have missed this one, and my eyes are blurry hehe, time for bed. I just find it odd that nearly every other path option is in the Ex config, except this one. My thanks again for the reply. Have a good one

hello folks. It may be because its late and i need sleep, but could someone point to where i set the path for samples in mame from the Ex config menus? Ive gone through about 5 or 6 times and i just dont see it. Using 6.36 regged version. Also a big shout to BYOAC members here(hope to have my new project posted soon!!) Thanks for any help.
