  1. that did it, thanks.
  2. I tried tapping the stick, also tried using the analog mode button to swap stick & d-pad, that didn't work either. Ya, good stuff. No clue why it works in fx & not 32. weird.
  3. /me notices that MAME32FX 1.06 is now out. /me has a shitgrin smile. nevermind. thanks anyways.
  4. So I'm trying to set up the controls for MAME32 & I have to say, it's not as good as MAME32FX. The purpose of this post is I'm hoping someone out there knows some sort of trick, like swapping out a controller driver file or something like that. Here's what I am getting at... Terminator 2 in MAME32FX. I can set the controls of my controller to the X/Y analog. I like doing it this way because it auto-centers. MAME32 does not allow me to do this solidly, like sometimes it'll let me set the controls, sometimes it won't. The 2nd joystick was preset to the exact same thing on that controller, I try swapping out default.cfg files & then when in-game, the analog is set to n/a. Yet whenever I use MAME32FX, all this works fine, but I need MAME32 in order to play more games & other games better. Anyone have some words of wisdom to prevent me from putting my fist through something unomfortable? LATE EDIT: Another thing is I can bind the X/Y Dec/Inc fine, it just refuses to do the analog.
  5. I meant a way to use game specific bezels in GameEx. GameEx does not ask for an artwork path, only the MAME GUI does.
  6. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...amp;#entry10961 Since most of us seem to agree that this is a good idea, I decided to add this to the feature requests thread. MCE remotes have the up/down/right/left & numbered keys on the remote, those would be the only keys relevant to entering the code.As far as the initial system goes, I like the idea of keeping this in a gaming theme but the only problem with it I see is as soon as the initials are entered, everyone can see it. It's like entering a password without the *'s on each character being entered. It's like showing everyone your password pretty much. Controllers do not have numbered keys like the MC remote does, that's why I was emphesizing on the arrow keys, it's something every control system has, aside from a driving wheel.
  7. There's an option to have GameEx play imperfect ROMs but I have no clue what you're on about with Galaga. Works fine for me. You may just need to update your ROMs, tons of improvements have been made over the years by the MAME team & I highly doubt they made changes to the ROM files for no appearent reason.I don't mess with emulating other systems to XBOX at all but I would think if you're having problems getting Galaga to work on your XBOX, sounds like a problem on your emulators end - not GameEx's. An XBOX does not even come anywhere remotely close to comparing to a PC; There's a ton of more stuff you can do on a PC that you can not on a console system. The 1 big benefit of a console system is it's alot more user-friendly, you don't have as much hassle as far as setting it up goes.Secondly, you can set your PC up as a console system if you like. This is how I have mine set up to my TV in the living room. I have it set up so that media center loads on startup, I can use my remote to watch TV, play movies, do whatever, or switch to GameEx & play any of my PC games or any of the games out there from Coleco to Nintendo 64 (or PS1 & some PS2). I also do not need my keyboard to play, I have a Logitech Rumblepad 2 controller which is exactly like a PS2 controller (including vibration). It loads a specific configuration for any program automatically. I can bind any key to any joystick button, or macro, or cycle of keys & I can use 1 button as a shift to make all the other buttons do other stuff... well, I think you get the point. So... Advantages to a console system... Not as much hassle & is more affordable. Disadvantages to a console system... Can't do half the stuff a PC can. If a game came out for console & for PC, they're going to be identical or the PC version is going to be better (which is the case most of the time). So you can't use GameEx as your FE for XBOX, so use a different one. I really just don't see what the big deal is. GameEx is the best FE for PC, I would think there is a XBOX FE out there that can do some of the same stuff. Aside from not being able to disable the option to delete files, Media Center does a better job with Media content. In other words, there's no point in having a DVD player in GameEx if you have one in Media Center, however, alot of people are using GameEx on Home or Pro, so this gives them Media Center options without actually having Media Center. So I agree with you that there are some things that Media Center does better than GameEx but there are a ton of things GameEx does better & the nice thing about GameEx is, what you don't like - disable. Keep what you like, toss what you don't. All praise Tom, the pimp daddy of FE software. I was guessing that you were referring to 10 years ago, not you still had the PC today; But whatever, it's neither here nor there. You either need to update the ROMs & MAME or use your old ROMs with a reeeeaaaaaalllllyyyy outdated version of MAME.Look dude, I understand your frustration, some of this is a bit of a hurdle & in all reality it shouldn't be (some of us are working on ways to simplify the process), but you need to understand that if MAME is not running your games - it's MAMEs fault - not GameEx's. Have you recently tried running just MAME on your PC? Also, I thought we were talking about making your stuff work on XBOX. You need to get an XBOX emulator & an XBOX frontend if you want to do that. If you want to get this going on your PC, I wouldn't use GameEx on that outdated system, you need all the resources you can get with that thing (no offense). Dude, you are all over the place. You already said that you can't get MCE running on that old system yet now you are saying it boots back to MCE, are we talking about a totally different system here? Ummm, do you know what Media Center is? You do know that it is a specific type of Windows XP operating system & Media Center is a program that uses a unique menuing system (incredibly similar to GameEx) so that the PC can be easily controlled with a Media Center remote, etc; etc..... you know this right? Because what you are saying doesn't add up.I'm seriously not trying to be rude or belittle you, I just want to make sure we're on the same page here & it just doesn't seem like we're even reading the same book. First off, it's $22 for the software. the 44 is in pounds (very useful to know when paying for it BTW, wish someone would have told me that :-p).Secondly, you keep blaming all of your problems on GameEx, it's JUST A FRONTEND DUDE. It's a menu system - that's it, it doesn't actually run the games - MAME does. Get it working in MAME, when you get to that point, we'll work out the GameEx issue. If you're not willing to try to get it working then drop the subject. I do, I totally do. I've been building & programming computers for over 10 years, when I coulldn't get Arcade emulation working on a PC, it was like a slap in the face. Wayne Brady was soooooooo ready to choke a bitch, but I eventually figured it out & now I'm going to spend some of my time making this easier for others. One thing I don't agree with is him bashing on others, however, if you read up he didn't start the bashing, he just wouldn't let the flame die out for a bit there. Sometimes when you are upset choosing choice verbage isn't realistic. Anyways, just saying, I can relate to the frustration - totally. So, how many of you actually read this book of a post?
  8. How would you enter alphabet codes with a MC remote or joystick? I suppose you could just make alphabetical characters an option & not mandatory, but the thing I'd like to focus on the most is the directional keys because it's on every form of controller, whether it's a joystick, a media center remote, a keyboard - woteva, it's there, that's why I like the directional keys. Well, it should probably just be something you can manually name in "Text/Language", this way everybody's happy (well, temporarily not the coder I suppose).
  9. @Amos: The only thing I don't like about that is the kids will still have access to mature material. With the way I am doing it, they are denied outright in & out of GameEx. I hide the adult ROM folders & I change the security tab for them so it doesn't work on the Visitor account (like guest but it doesn't allow anonymous users to login to the PC) & the GXXX shortcut isn't in the "More Programs" for Visitor, however it is for all other accounts. This is a bit of a pain to set up, but since the password for the Adult Visitor account is all numbers, it can be accessed via the MC remote. I'd still like to see this feature added in GameEx though, especially if we could have a new field in the emulators configuration that only allows the emulator to be shown if Adult mode is enabled; Or a path for where Adult ROMs are located would be better IMO. This can be used for any emulator, including PC games. An option to disable Adult mode would be useful as well. @Phantom: I like the idea of using directions as opposed to buttons/numbers specifically because no matter what type of controls you are using (keyboard, joystick, MC remote, arcade cabinet) you will have the 4 directions on them. The downfall to this is you are limiting your code down from 10 different character codes to just 4 but still, if you have a 6 button code, that's 4096 possible codes & if it's an 8 button code that's 65,536 possible codes. That will definitely do the trick.
  10. I have a few nice Bezels but I'd like to use certain Bezels with certain games, is there anyway to use game specific Bezels? Like whatever the name of the rom zip is, name the Bezel that & it will be used for that game type of thing?
  11. This sorta works, you can have 2 copies of GameEx running (one being GameEx, the other GameExExEx) but the problem is the Media Center start page. The "My Games" option will point to whatever was used in the installer, giving the second account the option of going into the second copy (XXX) via "More Programs". Something more proffessional would be nice, but this works. Basically I just move all the MAME XXX ROMs into a seperate folder, add that to the MAME ROM paths in the second copy, then for the 2600, I move all the adult ROMs to a seperate folder, then create an identical Atari 2600 emulator slot specifically for those ROMs only. The only difference between the 2 emulators is a few minor changes, so if something gets changed to the main one, it can be copied & modified pretty quick & easily.
  12. How about having it appear as it is now but you enter in some sort of code via the joystick (i.e. joy button 1 = num 1 for passcode, joystick button 2 = num 2 for passcode or just enter num code with keyboard (joystick is my personal pref)), then once the code appears, the menu option appears. The only real goal I'm trying to accomplish here is having a way to access this type of stuff & not have to go break out the keyboard & mouse to do it, yet at the same time hiding it from the kiddies. I guess I could see if 2 copies of GameEx can be run & the second copy is unrated. The second copy would only be accessable via another account. Logging off & entering a password via an MC remote is possible. I'll look into this.
  13. Another thing that would be useful is some sort of emulator option for URL's, like there is for PC games. Perhaps just associate any .url file with the GameEx browser.
  14. I was wrong, it is in there, just in the wrong place. It's in "Enable/Disable Features" & not in "Advanced MAME Settings".
  15. I have only played a couple of the adult games in MAME but from what I did play, it wasn't anything I would really label as "adult"; Provocative perhaps, but not adult, meaning no nudity. Regardless of whether or not there are "adult" games for MAME, it would be nice to see an "Adults Only" section in GameEx specifically for games such as "Custar's Revenge", an Atari 2600 game where you are Col. Custar, naked, with an indian woman on the other side of the screen & the object of the game is to avoid arrows & have sex with the indian woman. Personally, I found the game halarious & I'd like my friends to get a laugh out of it when they come over, however, I don't want any of the kids to be able to have access to it. Currently I have the adult ROMs moved into a different folder so it's not in the game list but I was thinking that it would be nice if we had the availability of an "Adults Only" section where in order to gain access to it, you would need a numbered passcode. The passcode could be entered via MC remote, joystick, or keyboard (for joystick a number pad appears & you enter it in that way). I was thinking that each ROM path should have a "XXX" sub-folder & any ROM's/.LNK's that the user would like to be in this "Adults Only" section can easily do so with this system. GameEx would know exactly what emulator to use (because of the parent path) & this would also give us the availability of doing this with PC games such as Leisure Suit Larry. What do you guys think of this idea?
  16. I'd like to add some vid clips to mame or any other emulator. If anyone knows of a place to get some, please let me know. thanks.
  17. There's an option to remove every type of MAME category, i.e. lightgun, golden era, adult, etc; etc; except for one - Playstation. If you choose to remove all categories axcept "show all mame games" you can't because there is no option in the configuration to remove the playstation mame games.
  18. TSpeirs said that the only difference between lite & full is different settings in the configuration but I went over all of them at least half a dozen times - literally. I think there may be a problem with installing the lite version & upgrading at the same time but of course, this is speculation. Regardless, I completely uninstalled gameex, deleted the gameex folder, then reinstalled the new version. Haven't set up the new copy yet due to me adding more roms. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  19. You can have 1 menu that goes to 1 menu down the heirarchy but I like the way the "Emulators" menu is in the full version. I like it saying "MAME", then you select MAME & it gives you the option for the various types of MAME games. If you have it being all on 1 menu, it's all the various MAME categories on that menu which adds a ton of clutter. Same concept applies to other menus as well.
  20. Did you try setting .zip in the rom extension field?
  21. I wanted to try the lite version of gameex in hopes of maybe getting a menu system that handled nothing but games but after installing the light version, I tried reinstalling without the lite version enabled & it's still enabled. How do I disable the lite version & go back to the full version of gameex?
  22. It's a self extracter but not like a zip self extractor, like an actual installer program. I'm probably going to do the guide in html format but I haven't started on that yet. So far, all I have is the files set up, ready to be added to the installer. The installer itself can be made within an hour or so, no biggie. I'll post a beta as soon as I can, I have my hands tied up on a few projects of my own, not to mention my work schedule.
  23. I attached a zip file with all the ZiNc stuff you need. Rename the current zinc folder you have to something else & try this one. Aside from that, make sure you have set in the "zinc options" field in the gameex configuration. If you are not using a controller, you may want to get rid of the "--controller=.\pcfg\controller.znc --use-controller-cfg-file=.\controller.cfg" part of that. I use a Logitech Rumblepad 2 controller, so I've never tested this without a controller. I did test this zip file before I attached it.Eventually I plan on making a guide & installer for some of these emulators but it's a WIP ATM. For now, this will hopefully remedy your situation. At the most, your screen may not work the first time. Just exit the game & re-launch, should be fine after that. If you want the settings up to 800x600, change it in the controller.cfg file AFTER you've tested it with these settings. I have an nVidia card myself so you should be able to have ZiNc function with no problems with this setup. Lastly & VERY importantly, make sure you not only have all the ZiNc roms in the same path as the rest of the MAME ROMs and you have ZiNc enabled in GameEx, but you must also do a GameEx list update AFTER you have ZiNc enabled. If you have any problems after that, please feel free to let us know. ZiNc.zip
  24. same rom folder as mame. Mame can run it or ZiNc but the only thing GameEx does is replace mame with zinc for those games, the actual rom paths are the exact same regardless of whether or not you have zinc enabled in gameex. like tom said, make sure you update the list after you enable zinc.
