  1. I don't have any problems with any of the console emulators loading game lists or loading games, although I do not have any of my console games compressed. I also run 2 different copies of GameEx, both run with no problems. 879 SNES, 757 NES, 329 N64, 356 Master, 992 Genesis, 422 GBA, 981 GB/GBC, 229 GG, 143 Coleco & 496 Atari 2600. The only time I experience a somewhat long wait time is when I load larger filesize games in MAME such as Samurai Showdown 5 Special; But I figure this is solely because the game is compressed & I have my romsets split. Aside from that, smoother than a silk babys bottom.
  2. Can GameEx map keys to the MCE remote like it can with the joystick? I'm asking because I am setting up some emulators for video purposes. One is for mounting KVCD's, then playing them, the other is for playing Real files.
  3. Video Feature Request: Support for mounting images to drives with Alcohol 120 or DAEMON Tools. This would be useful for DVD's & for Video CD's. Video Feature Request: Real video format support. Currently, I am going to have to set these 2 up as emulators in order to make it work.
  4. Does anyone know if there is a way to play KVCDs in GameEx? I have some on my hard drive, I've tried watching it with it in .bin/.cue format, I've also tried copying the contents of the KVCD into it's own subfolder, that doesn't work either. Does anyone have any ideas on how to play stored KVCD's on the hard drive via GameEx. Basically, I'd like to be able to play any media format all via my MCE remote. So far, i can't play KVCD (unless CD is inserted in CD ROM drive or virtul CD-ROM drive) & I also can't play .rm files. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. There's no FAQ because it's self explanitory really. Edit out whatever background you want using whatever graphics program you have, i.e. photoshop or paint shop pro. Then make sure you have that image selected under the "Custom Background" field. If you want to edit the theme, you can use the theme editor but that only works with V2 themes & most of the themes are V1.
  6. As long as you have the option to save the game & have it restore when loaded, scores should be saved. Another big reason why I'm waiting for MAME32 (too lazy to search for the command).
  7. I plan on eventually updating, but with all the new versions of GameEx (awesome job BTW Tom, you rock like a mountain) & all the computers I've been working on & all the DOS crap & yada yada yada, I just want to sit back & play for awhile man. I've had Leisure Larry 9 for 4 days now, I've got to play it once. Since there's no real immediate improvement on anything I like to play, like Soul Calibur, or the Tekken games, or no longer need ZiNc/Sega 2, or really... anything that effects me gaming-wise, I just don't see the rush.Don't get me wrong, I think it's fantastic they improved the video code - that's great, but now it's leaving me in a position to go playing the "what makes the video look best" puzzle & what do I gain? For the moment, nothing much. Just not worth it to me until they at least come out with a mame32 version. Ahhhh.... so there is. i kept going to an old MAME32 site, was still at the old version. Good to know. I'm still not switching yet, but I probably will within the next week or 2.
  8. I'd like the ability to have 2 different copies of GameEx installed & have it work 100% correctly. Perhaps give the option to use an existing user profile or create a new one & have it tied to the user account. Currently, I set up a fake drive (X:) & mount whichever folder to that, this way no matter what copy is in use, the paths match up. Lately changed settings made in 1 copy have been showing up in the other. I'm now removing all my saved stuff & reinstalling again.
  9. I'll wait for a MAME32 version to come out. Sounds like too much effort for me. Lately I've been getting back into DOS emulation, finally got Syndicate Wars working - w00h00.
  10. It seems to be working for straight shortcuts but not shortcuts that are working in conjunction with batch files. See, I HAVE to use batch files on some of these games because they mount the CD on a virtual drive so the game is able to play, example, for Prince of Persia 2 Thrones, the batch file is Now I guess I'm going to have to remove the "start" & "rem" commands to make it work because as soon as the batch file ends, GameEx goes back to the screen - it didn't use to do that. Here's what I don't get, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THE PATH MAKE? It started the game, it's not like I got an invalid path message or the game didn't start - the game started, the shortcut launched - what difference does the path make? that makes no sense. Granted, it worked for straight shortcuts, but why? And furthermore, why is it not working with these batch files the way they are now?
  11. I still haven't updated to the new 1.07 yet & I'm curious if the update is that big of a deal. Are there any games that didn't work before now working or games that were unplayable before & are now playable, such as soul calibur or any of the tekken games, or perhaps some of the stuff that we needed zinc/sega model 2 for is no longer neccessary? What's the real advantage with the new MAME 1.07?
  12. I'll try swapping it out when I can. Adding a ton of old DOS games, plus the kids have been having problems with various things when they try to play so... I've been busy (as we all are). Thanks for your time though fellas, appreciate it. Again, I'll try it out when I can.
  13. Okay, here's mine... Again, I didn't start having this problem until I updated & the game does launch, GameEx just relaunches without the game exiting so the game just runs in the background with GameEx popping back up.Please do not tell me I need to completely get rid of GameEx & then reinstall, I do not want to redo all my settings again to get this to work. I hate resetting this up, especially considering I use 2 copies.
  14. am I the only on having this problem or is this a real bug?
  15. If you're referring to the MCE theme, it's V1. It wasn't. The 2 themes I made are both V1 & I can run them in any resolution. I set them to 1024x768 & since I am hooked up to a TV, I use 800x600. Works fine.Unfortunately when I use a V2 theme, it automatically switches the resolution. I wish this feature would be put back. It saves allot of time for the theme creators out there. I don't want to create a custom resolution for each background 3 or 4 times. It wastes time & disk space. Can already do that for V1 themes & I do. So did the creator of Women We Love to Play. One thing I do like about the V2 themes is I can finally put a custom bak on MAME & hopefully the emulators menu. I've been wanting to do that for awhile. I'm also probably going to continue the MCE theme. I like amos's theme but I don't want to ditch the various logos. They look too cool, especially considering I did all of my own custom logos. I really want to continue with the themes but I never get to play, so I'm taking a little time off. As for the MCE theme, I will make one amos's way (unless he is continuing it) & another with the logos.
  16. That's exactly how I have it set up. When the new version came out it stopped working. I found a way around it, the batch files do work, I just forgot to put the [romfile] in ""s - THERE IS STILL A BUG HERE THOUGH. I tried using just a shortcut & it it doesn't work. It launches the game, then GameEx goes to fullscreen with the game running in the background. Until this gets fixed in gameex, here's a workaround. Let' say your shortcut points to "C:\Gaming\Tomb Raider - Legend\trl.exe". Make a batch file that says... This batch file will keep a window open as long as the program is running. As for why GameEx doesn't do the same thing to the batch file as it is the PC games - no clue.Anyways, if you're having problems creating a batch file, do this. At the command prompt you can type "copy con trl.bat", then on the next line just enter "@", F6, then press enter. From there you can right-click on the batch file from windows & there will be an "edit" option. I know this is a pain in the arse but it's the only way to get it working that I know of without going back to a previous version of GameEx.
  17. scratch that, even the batch files are dodgy.
  18. I have my PC games set up as an emulator. When launching PC games, it launches it, then goes back to gameex without closing the game, so the game still runs in the background. Haven't tried putting PC games in with apps, I'm going to try & see if I can get around this with an open batch file. I'll let you know how it turns out. LATE EDIT: That worked but now I have to have a command processor window open in order for GameEx not to relaunch over PC games. Emulator games seems to be working fine, this is just a problem with PC games.
  19. #1) Is anyone using them? I noticed some people have been doing some new themes, I am as well, but so far I haven't seen anyone do a new theme using the theme editor; i.e. V2 themes. #2) Is there a way to make it so that the V2 themes do not override the user preffered settings set in the configuration program, such as resolution, or do I need to set up a theme for each resolution?
  20. FYI, with the different .ini file, that's great if you are using the same database but not if you want to have multiple game lists for MAME. In other words, I have 2 copies of GameEx, ones for big kids & the other is a clean version. Having 2 copies of GameEx in different paths didn't ideally work out configuration-wise, so I used a dos command called "subst" which basically makes fake drives out of folders. So my GameEx path is "X:\GameEx" & whatever copy is used is chosen on that users startup. I also set up a shortcut to automounts whichever copy so I can modify the configuration settings. To get a basic 2 copy set up is easy. The way I have it is a little more work but so worth. Anyways, just letting you know on another method of skinning that cat.
  21. JOoC, what font did you use?
  22. Nice theme amos, I do have 1 small request... in MCE, I have my start page shortcut named "GameEx" not "My Games", would you be willing to add a secondary background in the theme & name it bak_gameex please? GameEx does more than games so naming it "My Games" seems a little inappropiate. Hopefully we'll get to use custom bak's for mame & the emulators menu in the next version of GameEx.
  23. I have a feature request/bug report & a feature request. #1) The emubak & mamebak files don't display in GameEx, fixing that would be great. LATE EDIT START: I'm referring to using these as a mame background & a background for the emulators menu. For some reason, these only work as video files, not .PNG's (haven't tested out JPEG). LATE EDIT END: #2) Anyway to associate .rm files to RealPlayer or *preferably* Real Alternative for the Videos section? The only problem I see with adding WinKawaka is people are going to start getting picky, i.e. "well I want WinKawaka to run this game but I want MAME to run that game, but I HAVE to have finalburn run those games...". I understand from a users end, certain games just run better in certain emulators (and sometimes those opinions vary) but from a developers end - it's a pain in the arse.We need some sort of concept design as far as how it's going to be set up in the GameEx configuration program. Personally, I'd just let people edit the whatever .ini files but integration in the configuration utility would obviously be outstanding. Couldn't you just add .cue or .bin to the excluded files list? Actually, it would just be .cue since you only really need the .bin.
  24. heh, ya, just some chicks hangin out in the livin room, takin their clothes off, rubbin themselves, gettin ready to play coleco - boy if I had a nickel for everytime that happens... anyways, the new default version is pretty much just like these but without the chiclks, just text & an MC lookin background. I'm still trying to get emubak & mamebak to show up. thanks for the feedback guys.
  25. I've been working on alot of this tonight, still need to make a vertical games & horizontal games snap but aside from that, the MAME menu snaps should be done. The other 2 are backgrounds I added, ones for Coleco, the other is for PC. I'm hoping to release this sometime this week, along with the revision on the default theme. Let me know what you guys think, thanks.
