Thanks a lot for this hint, this might be of future help. I solved the problem as I obviously activated a filter in the setup wizard causing the "loss" of my favorites. After I deactivated the filter my favorites were back in town :-) Thanks again for your help.

Hi *, got a strange problem with my favorites. I added a couple of MAME games to the favorite list and all of a sudden they disappeared from this list. My first reation was to add them again but the only option I am offered is to remove them from the list (which I can't as they don't show up). Looks like a database is screwed up. Any help around? Where does Gameex save the favorites? I looked through the folders but couldn'f find anything. Any help appreciated. Cheers nullus

Not very much information to help you.... Which version do you have installed? You have read this?: "There has been a lot of fixes and optimisations and the entire project has been upgraded to .net framework 2.0. Because of .net 2.0, auto update will not work until you upgrade manually to this version or future versions. You obviously need .net 2.0 installed but the setup will automatically download it for you."

You'll find the solution IN THIS THREAD

C'est ca! Now it's working, thanks.

Same for me. No matter whether I take 7.50 or 7.51 Exeption occurs at the end of installation process whilst "finishing installation"

Rename your artwork files to "folder.jpg" and you'll be fine.

What version of mame are you using? Are you able to run the ROMs from within mame directly (without using gameex as the frontend)? Looks to me like a mame-settings error...

Ever seen THIS excellent extension for the Firefox? OK, it uses the IE engine within Firefox, but you don't even have to leave Firefox for those crappy "IE optimized" pages. I never had any issues with my Firefox, for me it's the one and only!

Hi Michael, your control application for Winamp is an interesting approach but in my eyes it's a must that the user is able to do do a free keyboard mapping with this application. Mouse control in an arcade cab ist not what we really want as everthing is controlled by a CP

No way . You cannot add lines to the custominput.ini you can just modify the existing ones... .
-
No big deal! Go for "ingame CP view VK" in the "advanced mame settings" in the configuration

I'm not an expert at all and maybe I'm telling bullshit but what I would try is to rename the *.vob to *.mpg or maybe to *.avi... Give it a try, you've nothing to loose...

Ahhh, thanks to you guys! Now there comes some light to me... For some VERY strange reason I thought that GameEx can only handle this type of doodle-doodle-midi-crap-kar-files, but with your help I found out that mp3+cdg works great with GameEx!!! I made a backup of my cdg-collection and tested it with GameEx....great!!!

Hi everybody, two hours ago I received my key for gameex . Now that I'm finally a registered user I'm fooling around with all the new features and of course came across karaoke. I'm absolutely new to this business so please forgive me any stupid question on this. After a few minutes of googling I got hold of some *.kar files to load them with the karaoke module in Gameex. Although everything worked fine I was a bit disappointed as it was only a (crappy) midi-file I could hear. Is this normal? Is the kar-fileformat associated with midifiles+lyrics? As a naive person I expected a sound that is pretty close to the original sound of the song but of course with a computer soundcard playing midi you won't get into the mood . My question now is: Is all this normal for karaoke playback or are there any chances to get "high quality" sound files that come close to the original (probably mp3 format instead of midi). Don't get me wrong I don't want you to post some potentially illegal stuff here, I just need an overview on the options I have and that you point me in the right direction to look for information... . Many thanks, nullus

Thank you Atari800, very illuminative!

No help but a similar problem. Same thing happens to me when switching from radio to jukebox. In most cases radio doesn't stop playing but instead you'll hear radio + jukebox in paralell Highly appreciated, standing ovation !!! Do not understand this "feature" either. Was already my question/suggestion in two or three threads a while ago but I never got an answer on that . Anyway good to know that I'm not alone with this... .

Well, I guess we're running a little OT with this so I make it short (for an exception) . I have a very widespread universal cab from a german manufacturer named TV-Ideal-Twinline. Not really for collectors but suited me perfectly (very smart to convert it into a mame cab)... . It's still work in progress so I don't have anything to present right now (I will when the time is right). Only that much: As I am on very low budget with this project (yes, it's the WAF) everything had to be as cheap as possible. I got the cab nearly or free, did a lot of cosmetics on it, had a 1GHz, 256MB lying around, did a (nicely working) keyboard hack for the 2P 3Button CP and have a 19'' Computer-CRT inside. I only run MAME and no other emulator (the golden era is more than enough for me and reminds me of my youth...). Sound is coming from a 2.1 system I've integrated into the cab. The cab is on WLAN and complete administration is done via RealVNC (great program!!). For emergencies there's a wireless keyboard/mouse available. Planned/in progress: - wireless connection to my Hifi (found an affordable 2.4GHz radio transmitter/receiver for audio and video signals) - some soldering and PCBing to have the cash acceptor working together with my PC - upgrading my mobo and/or some more RAM for GameEx & Co. (have to do some mobo/RAM spotting ) - illumination of marquee with two CCFL taken from two slaughtered scanners - bring some lightshow to the buttons (chaselight effects etc...) with the help of some TTL-chips I've on stock... - optimize software components (kill some unused XP processes etc. to free up some more RAM) - last not least, and to be ON topic again : Praying for some minor optimisations of GameEx concerning the jukebox like mentioned in post no. 1 of this thread Now I'm off for some days of vacation in the sun (cause it's f*cking rainy and cold for the moment). Ciao bello , nullus

And all this with a very nice, customisable, easy to handle GUI!! Let put it like this: It used to be not very album-orientated which made it inconvenient for bigger collections but since Tom included the "sort by artist/album" feature it's great... . I've never done that. Most probably for two reasons: 1. I can't sing (notv even in the bathtub) 2. so far I haven't registered GameEx as the jukebox is a central point for me which has to run like silk Anyway I'm going to register for a pay-pal Account shortly and than I'll donate just to honor all the work Tom is doing and for the great reponsiveness to complaints and feature requests. Yes, SK requires a mouse. I also thought about the trackball option but I don't like the idea to have a new CP just for an external application... On the other hand it makes me think about this nice little tutorial I found in the net on building your own spinner which could nicely be arranged on a new CP together with a trackball, a joystick and three buttons... ??? More details please. I'n not aware of such an option but it could be a workaround for me... . OK you convinced me to give it a FINAL try with a few albums that do not show up for the moments. I don't put to much hope in this as I really think it's somehow due to GameEx but I'll give it a try tonight. Well this was easy. First I involved her in building the cab (she is responsible for all the artwork like marquee, sideart and instruction cards) and second I converted her CD's to mp3 first and put the originals to the attic. nullus

Yepp, that one's fixed with 6.65. THX
-
Hi Jay, thanks for replying and some comments on this: Yepp, that's right Still an issue for me... This is what I did a couple of times already... Hm, I'm not soooo sure for this. I tried (as you mentioned/suggested) the SKJukebox as an external program and all of my albums were readily recognized (in ID3 mode!!) so I think it could have something to do with the way GameEx handles the tags?!? Basically I don't like to set up external progs for all the stuff cause GameEx is close to be perfect for me and external progs means external problems and additional resources . Additionally it's very charming that GameEx does everything including webradio (thank you so much Tom for having back my beloved "please wait" indicator with version 6.60). I simply love the program for all these neat features and Tom does a really great job on it! I like the idea to have it all under one roof especially cause it increases the WAF (Woman Acceptance Factor) of my cab in our living room Last not least SKJukebox (even though a nice program) is not very well suited for being used with a limited number of controls from my CP. Regards nullus

Hi Tom, I'd like to give my 2 cents to this update. Yes noticable To be honest me personally I'm not happy at all with this "improvement". I'm missing the "please wait" bar as it indicated that something in fact was in progress. With the new system you don't know whether GameEx is really loading anything and as it can take a couple of seconds until the stream is loaded you have no indicator at all that things are on the way... . I was perfectly happy with the old system of loading but if you'll stick to the new one please please add a status indicator somehow. Nice Doesn't work for me or I'm just to stupid to get the point... BTW: I had the same exeption errors with 6.58 that were reported in this thread but it seems to be OK with 6.59. Regards, nullus
