Got the construction phase of my 2nd cab complete so before I started my final tweeking of the all the software for machine startup and shutdown I figured I would get the latest version of gameex.I went from v5.88 to the latest 6.76 and have noticed a couple things that seem to be acting up.Once the screensaver feature kicks in it seems to take a long time to get it back out of screensaver mode by hitting a button.Then once you get back to the game menu (all mame games),it will show the correct total number of games but if you start paging through the list it will only go about half way through the list and then return to game 1.You have to go back to the main menu and reselect all mame games again before you can scroll through the entire list of games.

I'm running gameex v5.87.I tried to set up an external app,Tiger Woods PGA golf 2006.I can get it to launch fine and the game plays fine after launched but when I go to exit the game, gameex won't take focus back.I verified in task manager that tiger woods did exit and the only thing running was gameex but I have a black screen.I have a couple other games set up as external apps and they seem to exit ok.The tiger woods game must exit with a quit button on the game screen,the esc or back button won't cause the game to exit and there is no provision to change key assignment within tiger woods.I tried adjusting the show desktop and app4 map keys (app4 is where I've got it set up)yes or no in all combinations with no help.Any ideas?

1)Are you using the latest build of gameex,v5.78? because I believe gameex should start even without mame installed. 2) it looks like what ever version of gameex you have can't find the mame.exe,check your path to the mame.exe in the config app 3)is it an official build of mame or custom build?

I used divx codecs on my first cab, an older version which works fine for me,the new divix codec won't work(it keeps minimizing gameex).I was going to use the fddshow codec as you seem to preferr it, on the 2nd cab I'm building. It seemed to work fine but I notice that when I exit gameex, the system tray off on the right side of the task bar is loaded with multiple fddshow icons.What would be the reason for this,is that normal?I was using a daily build of fddshow http://cutka.szm.sk/files/ffdshow-20051129.exe and gameex 5.76

Hey Tom,I'm starting to put the computer together for my 2nd cab(for a friend).I've been using the divx codec on my first without any problems but was going to use the fddshow codec on the 2nd as it seems you prefer that one.When I went to download the last official version was dated June 2002 and an alpha version dated Oct 2004.Which one would you recommend.Thanks. I just saw headkaze's link to the daily builds which look newer,are those official builds or someone else's mod's to the official builds,in other words can you recomend them or not

I'm no expert but it looks like you are using a custom mame build and you don't have the path set to the exe correctly.Does it exit on startup of gameex or on launching a game because I believe the newer versions of gameex will still launch into the gameex menu even if no mame exe is present.

what do you mean by "v2" themes

is that when you are installing the program or is it already installed and you get this when launching the program.If its during installation it may just be trying to download the ambiance music.

You were right headkaze ,it's alt + p1 up or down,I should have looked at the docs first. I didn't know that feature was there. By the way,great job on the soul calibur theme,very cool.

While playing some games with my younger boy today on the arcade I saw something strange in the all mame games menu for a brief second.I was using player 1 and he was on player 2, screen was in the all mame games menu and he decided to lean across to scroll the menu with the player 1 joystick.As he leaned over, for a brief second there was an inverted triangular bar graph with "volume" written across the top to the right of the game list,somewhat semi transparent. And before I could see if he was hitting any other buttons it disappeared. Has anyone else seen this,I haven't been able to figure out what brought it up?

I gave it go and it seems to working ok on my 5200 series card, I used drivers version 81.98.

Feeling real stupid but I got it,with all the new editions I forgot about page 2 in the config app

I'd like to get a consensus if the new NVIDIA drivers are working normally for those of you who had problems with past NVIDIA drivers as I did.I'd like some input from people who have had the slow or jerky gameex menu's and had to stick with the 66.93 drivers.I'd like to update as I've got a couple pc games that are struggling but I don't want to botch gameex up again.

I just updated to v 5.45,I see there's already another update one day later,I see you've been busy as usual.One thing I've noticed that has changed on me and I'm not sure which update it was that did it.When gameex went into screen saver mode I used to hear the audio for the game that was previewing,now I notice that the ambience audio plays during screen saver mode.I did not see an option to select what you want to hear during screen saver mode unless I overlooked it.Is this the way it's supposed to work now?If it's possible I'd like to see an option to run the game audio in screen saver mode.Thanks By the way I really like the soul calibur theme,can't wait to see what appears after the theme editor is finished.

I just updated from version 5.16 to 5.30.I thought v5.19 increased the video/artwork size in the lower left corner.I really don't see a difference.Did I pass over a new setting that would effect this.Thanks

ok I got rid of the white border,somehow white got added to the color pallet even though I didn't select it.I replaced it with black and alls ok.But,there is always a but.I've been trying this and the sheller on my beater experimenting computer before I put it on my arcade machine.The sheller works great on it,but the arcade machine keeps wanting me to select a user to log in with.Both have xp pro,the one it works on has sp2,the one that it doesn't has sp1.Do you think that may be the cuplrit?I had trouble getting sp2 on the rig in my arcade so I just left it with sp1.Also has there been any agreement on the newer nvidia drivers working correctly or not or are they still hit and miss.Thanks

I know this is a bit of a stretch on the topic as it really doesn't appy to the gameex program itself.I'm trying to make my own boot logo to use with the instant sheller and have a minor problem.I'm using photoshop to make the bmp image,it's 640x480 in size.It applies ok but I keep getting a white border all the way around the image when booting,if you open the bmp up in a photo app its not there,it's black all the way to the edge like I made it.Any idea's on why this white border shows up when its set to be my boot image?Thanks.

Tried v.32 today,at first I didn't think it was going to work.I did not get the boot.ini message.But on first restart I did get a log on selection screen,I clicked my user then gameex started but closed with an error log.The second restart however,everything worked as expected and the undo feature also worked with no problem. here's the download link if anyone needs it http://tomspeirs.com/gameex/shell.htm

Ditto for me Tom,I finally had a chance to try out version .31 today.I get an unhandled exception error box with a message "access to the path "C:\boot.ini" is denied".Funny thing though,even though I get the error message if you close out the error box and run the sheller again the undo screen pops up even though it does not seem to have changed anything. gameex 5.22 .net 1.1 win xp pro

Tom I tried out the instant sheller today on my machine,the first reboot all went as expected.But on subsequent boots I get the logon screen.Any thoughts? I selected hide startup,shutdowndown screens and set auto login,and set background to black.Luckily the undo changes button worked.

Tom,best of luck on your new venture. Judging from your accomplishments with Gameex,I think you will do great.

Finally got my cab to point I could move it from the garage into the house,still have some tweaking to do if can pry my kids hands off the joysticks.Thanks to all in the arcade community that helped me along on this project.Its been interesting.

thats exactly what it was,thanks for the help Tom,I installed the older nvidia driver and its working normally again.The theme I was using still would not work though.I did notice that the main menu screen background from the purple theme I copied that was causing the trouble is different than the one in the new purple theme set,So I just copied the backgrounds from the new purple theme set.
