  1. The videos are still working just really slow.I have the latest nvidia driver v78.01.I'll have a look at the docs page you referred to.
  2. No,actually I uninstalled and reinstalled gameex (v4.99) just to make sure nothing suspect was left behind, still have the same choppy menu. The messed up theme was actually a combination of the default gameex theme with the background files from the purple theme,I liked the purple theme backgrounds but didn't care for the menus so I copied the purple theme backgrounds to the default-default theme.Worked fine through several updates. Not really sure what brought this on.I've got videos(avi) for all my games and they worked previously,I was running v4.68 or 4.72 before this update.I've been running 512 of pc3200 memory all along with no problems, maybe I'll try putting in a gig and see if theres any diff. And just for info I'm using mame v89B,only because thats my rom set version and I just like to keep them all the same (mame, roms and catver) to eliminate any version conflicts.
  3. There was something not right in that theme, switched to default theme and it now starts but now the menu is very choppy and slow to respond, not sure why, tried most of the things in the sluggish post, alpha blend was already off, didn't have this before either.Games are ok after they start, just the menu is slow.
  4. I donated today and recieved the reg file so it goes past that screen but still exits with the error log after the gameex logo flashes briefly.Hers the log file using the debugger version. 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: GameEx: Version 5.00: Starting Log 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Operating System Name: Windows XP 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Checking Registration 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Running Randomize() 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Running Misc startup tasks 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Setting Menu types 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Opening Configuration File 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Getting Configuration Values 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Using Theme: Default - Default 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Default 17:07:48.1 9/5/2005: Text/Language: English 17:07:48.2 9/5/2005: Applying Language/Text 17:07:48.2 9/5/2005: Creating Scancodes.txt (List of DirectInput scan codes) 17:07:48.2 9/5/2005: Snap Delay set to: 4 17:07:48.2 9/5/2005: Is Media Center running? back button

Tom which setting in the config would have an effect on the back button on the toolbar?I've been tweaking my config to keep it simple for my cab install and somewhere the back button quit working,I can see it and click it but nothing,I need to back up in menu using the keyboard button now.
  7. I don't know if this would be to difficult to impliment for the return.I like to keep the update list function disabled just to clean up the menu and keep the kids out of things they have no business with.So to update the list I need to open the config utility, enable the update list feature, exit, start gameex, update the list, exit, open the config utility to hide the update list function and save. Can an option to update the gamelist be a part of the config utility also?
  8. I can't seem to get gameex to launch as a shell,I've edited the registry so it lists the gameex path instead of the normal explorer shell and it seems to want to try but it hangs and I get an error log and gameex exits,I don't have the log file now but I think it said something about screen resolution.Anyone else running as a shell, any pointers or something else I need do?Thanks

    audio settings

I think I figured out what was happening, even though I disabled the jukebox and set the path to the audio file I wanted to run,I had to open the media player and delete the playlist I had created earlier for the sound file. After I deleted the playlist all worked normally.

    audio settings

I've got v4.07 and need some input on an audio problem.I have an audio file that I want to play while gameex is running.I don't care for the built in jukebox and use a standalone (arcade jukebox) for that because it lets me build a playlist on the fly depending on my music mood instead of having to set up a fixed media player playlist. So my problem is this,if I enable the gameex jukebox and use the file in a playlist all works fine.If I disable the jukebox and set up the paths for the audio file with the jukebox disabled it still plays ok but I get an "ohhh" audio clip when gameex starts.I've tried some different settings in the audio setup but no luck, any idea. Here are the settings I was using. enable sound fx=yes enable jukebox=no play music/radio on startup=tried yes & no enable media controls=yes jukebox playlist=arcade sounds(the playlist I created) shuffle playlists=no audio in snap avi=yes mame audio mode=pause playlist audio & run mame with sound audio files if jukebox disabled=(the folder my sound file is in) music vol=51 play intro sound=no attract mode audio=pause playlist audio & run mame with sound download album art=no

    nag screen

since the lstxml output does not appear accurate enough would it be possible to incorporate an option similar to the "don't filter these roms" for the screen saver function.A place where we could list the roms for the screensaver function to ignore, that way the screen save function would work smoothly?

    nag screen

I got this response from the mame forums, would it be possible for you to include some type of filter using this list they talk about to prevent gameex from using these particular games during screen saver mode? No. We include the warning screens for a very good reason, and people disabling them causes us nothing but trouble. However, it should be possible for you frontend to know which games have problems by parsing the -listxml output and avoid them.

    nag screen

I was hoping for an easy command line switch also but have not found anything yet.I did see one post on arcadecontrols boards about modifying mame somehow but I couldn't follow it's details very well. You still should not need a keyboard, just wiggle the joystick for ok,but then it exits the screensaver mode.

    nag screen

I'm running gameex 4.01 with mame 89, I cannot seem to get rid of the nag screen for "there are known problems with this game" which lists things like cocktail mode flipping ,sound or video emulation not accurate. This interferes with the screen saver mode in gameex, whenever the screen saver gets to one of these games it gets stuck on the nag screen,if you wiggle the jotstick for ok the screen saver exits to the gameex menu like you would expect. Its not a huge problem when playing but I would like to make it go away there as well but it puts a big flaw into the screen saver mode.I've got the defaults in the gameex config for skip validity checks and all and my mame ini has skip disclaimer, skip gameinfo and skip validity checks all set to 1 to disable.Has anyone got a way to disable this last nag screen,Thanks.

    attract problems

there are no other open apps running when it minimizes, its installed on my primary computer for now so its got a few things in the system tray, norton and a few other utilities, maybe a culprit I don't know.I didn't see the minimizing problem before v3.48.I changed that setting in the tweaks tab about the video-thread thing to no,I didn't know what that did so I left it alone at first,we'll see if that changes it's behavior. Also I didn't see the audio problem untill v3.48 either.I'm going to have to get the last few components for the computer thats going into my cab so I can run it on a system without any extra fluff on it and see if it's ok then. And videos I'm using are AVI's,and again they played ok on v3.47.
  16. I've been having problems with attract mode through several versions now.I'm using the latest v3.51 now, here are some of the problems I've been having lately. starting with version 3.48,3.50 and 3.51 did it also. The 1st time I start gameex it will not load and I get a full screen sized log file as gameex exits. After the 1st attempt it seems to load normally so its not a huge problem. Here is the log text from the 1st v3.51 startup. 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: GameEx: Version 3.51: Starting Log 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Operating System Platform ID: Win32NT 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Operating System Version: 5.1 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Running Randomize() 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Running Misc startup tasks 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Hiding Cursor 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Opening Configuration File 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Getting Configuration Values 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Using Theme: Default - Default 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Default 08:32:38.9 4/10/2005: Applying Language/Text 08:32:39.0 4/10/2005: SlikStik support enabled 08:32:39.0 4/10/2005: Using DirectInput for keyboard input 08:32:39.0 4/10/2005: Launching HideOS.exe 08:32:39.8 4/10/2005: Hiding Taskbar 08:32:39.9 4/10/2005: Getting Original Screen Size 08:32:39.9 4/10/2005: Loading ICON 08:32:39.9 4/10/2005: Initializing Component 08:32:40.0 4/10/2005: Using General Font: Trebuchet MS 08:32:40.0 4/10/2005: Using Title Font: Trebuchet MS 08:32:40.0 4/10/2005: Initialising DirectDraw 08:32:40.0 4/10/2005: Creating DirectDraw Device 08:32:40.1 4/10/2005: Setting Resolution to 1024x768 32 bit color 08:32:41.0 4/10/2005: Creating DirectDraw Surfaces 08:32:41.0 4/10/2005: Creating Primary Surface - Full Screen Mode 08:32:41.2 4/10/2005: Creating Back Buffer 08:32:41.2 4/10/2005: Loading graphic surfaces 08:32:42.6 4/10/2005: Creating Fonts 08:32:42.6 4/10/2005: Creating Menu Font 08:32:42.8 4/10/2005: Creating Game Font 08:32:42.9 4/10/2005: Creating Menu Font Standard Size 08:32:43.4 4/10/2005: Creating Font Black 08:32:43.5 4/10/2005: Creating Font Black Small 08:32:43.5 4/10/2005: Creating Game Font Faded 08:32:43.7 4/10/2005: Creating Title Font 08:32:44.2 4/10/2005: Initialising Windows Media Player Component 08:32:44.2 4/10/2005: HTML Apps is on, initialising Web Browser Component 08:32:45.2 4/10/2005: MAME Path is: C:\mame 08:32:45.2 4/10/2005: MAME EXE file is: mame.exe 08:32:45.2 4/10/2005: ROM Path is: C:\mame\roms 08:32:45.2 4/10/2005: Catver.ini is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\catver.ini 08:32:45.2 4/10/2005: controls.ini is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\data\controls.ini 08:32:45.3 4/10/2005: History.dat is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\history.dat 08:32:45.3 4/10/2005: nplayers.ini is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\nplayers.ini 08:32:45.3 4/10/2005: MAMEinfo.dat is located at: C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\mameinfo.dat 08:32:47.7 4/10/2005: Loading Controls.ini map file 08:32:47.7 4/10/2005: Loading Custom Emulators 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: Snap Path is: C:\mame\snap 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: AVI Snap Path is: C:\mame\attract 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: Flyer Path is: C:\mame\flyers 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: Cabinet Path is: C:\mame\cabinets 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: Title Path is: C:\mame\titles 08:32:47.8 4/10/2005: Panel Path is: C:\mame\cpanel 08:32:47.9 4/10/2005: Icon Path: Not Found 08:32:47.9 4/10/2005: Marquee Path is: C:\mame\marquees 08:32:47.9 4/10/2005: Attempting to load game list 08:32:48.0 4/10/2005: Loading last used Game List 08:32:48.2 4/10/2005: Initialising Bass Audio Library 08:32:48.4 4/10/2005: Loading music from Windows Media Player 08:32:48.5 4/10/2005: Creating DirectSound Device 08:32:48.5 4/10/2005: Trying: Primary Sound Driver 08:32:48.5 4/10/2005: Loading Sound Files 08:32:48.6 4/10/2005: DirectSound Device Created Successfully 08:32:48.6 4/10/2005: Initialising DirectInput for Gamepad support 08:32:48.6 4/10/2005: Initialising DirectInput for Keyboard support 08:32:48.6 4/10/2005: Playing Startup Video 08:32:48.7 4/10/2005: Initialization OK! I like the idea of the attract mode but haven't had a lot of luck with it,I'd at least like to disable it and keep the gameex menu active.
  17. ok,but that does not explain why I can't seem to turn the feature off so it does not even run in attract mode.I set the wait time to 0 but it still seems to try and launch attract mode.Is there something else I need to do to disable this.Thanks.
  18. Tom I'm using the latest ver of gameex and I've set the wait time to zero to disable the attract mode like you said.I've got my system screen savers turned off, power settings are all set to stay on all the time.If the gameex menu sits for a while sometimes less lthan a minute the screen goes black and no matter what buttons I push it stays that way.I alt tab and the hideos is selected, when I tab over to gameex it comes back again.Am I missing something in the config or do you think something else is going on?Thanks.
  19. I don't think $20-30 for a full featured version is asking for too much as long as updates will be included, like you said there are always changes being made. But I think if I were not interested in all the extras I would much rather see 2 different versions so as not to keep seeing nag screens,I really hate those taunts. I'd like to see some change in the jukebox also,I don't care for the way it relies on the media player playlists either.I've got an mp3 of various arcade sounds that I have playing in the backround while in the frontend, and a huge collection of mp3 music files.Unless I'm missing something I'm having a hard time getting both to work,so I'm planing on using another jukebox progam as an external for my music files.
  20. I can see the logic in that in a way but my problem is that some of the rom sets are tied together so much its hard to tell which is the parent set and which is the clone. If you pull a rom set you know you don't want it has an effect on one you do like and want to keep.I just think it would work better in the long run to let the game list be created and then be able to select which ones you want to be displayed in your fe menu.
  21. Thanks for the quick replies gentlemen.Tom,after its in attract mode how does it regain focus to the gameex interface,I can't seem to get it back after attract mode starts and this would be problem for my intended setup as it will be in a cab and keyboard access will not be handy to alt-tab.one reason for this may be that I am in the process of creating avi's of the games to display and I'm capturing with a canopus twinpact 100 converter in rgb mode(its inline between the computer's monitor out and the monitor itself). After I get hookups back to normal I'll post if that was the problem. Thanks again.
  22. when running gameex it seems to work fine but if it sits a few minutes with no input the screen goes completely black and I cannot get back to the gameex interface, once in while a game video will play so I'm assuming this is going into its attract mode.I tried to turn off the attract mode to see if that was it but I did not see that option unless I missed it.If I hit alt-tab is see 2 processes, gameex and game exhideos. If I tab back to gameex the interface reappears. Can someone give me some insight on this. gameex v3.45 winxp pro

    start menu audio

Thanks for the help guys, that did what I wanted,I don't use the playlist feature much and didn't realize thats where it was picking up the audio from.
  24. I'm new to using gameex, can someone help me out with changing the music that plays when the fe starts up.I've set the path for the audio files for the jukebox.I've got an mp3 file of arcade sounds that I would like to play when the fe menu is up instead of the default song "like humans do" that keeps playing. Thanks
  25. I'm pretty new to gameex,I've been playing with a couple fe's trying to find one that works good in a stand alone mame cab with a lot of kid use,so I need a fe that can be used without constant adult supervision, this looks like it has a lot of options that may make that possible,we'll see.Any way the clone issue discussed here has been one feature I've been looking at in my fe decision and a lot of the fe's seem to attact it the same way, either on or off basically.I'm no programer but what I would like to see is just leave them on and after the front end builds the game list of avail roms, have an option in the fe config that lists all of the games in the gamelist with a simple check box that would either show or hide a particular game in the fe game menu when it starts,so you could pick and choose which clones are avail to play or are hidden.
