  1. here's what i'm getting in the windows from trying to load through gameex opening game: ehrgeiz (us) ver. a [ehrgeiz] dynachicken compiler initialising memory access caching version cpu identification: amd unknown model optimizing for: unknown class rom files loaded ok JAMMA keyboard driver 1.0 initialized then the 'zinc' window shows up, and the next thing i know i'm looking at the 'zinc.exe has stopped working' window. hope this helps. perhaps i need to redownload the jamma keyboard driver or something. edit: is it possible that zinc is looking for an outdated version of the roms? i downloaded zincgui to give it a test, and it claims that the 'roms are not found' they're named correctly and they're in the default folder (after i copied them from my main mame folder) and yet..nothin' edit2: some of the roms come back with the 'correct' tag signifying that they are recognized as being current zinc roms, but they also report back the same error when i try to run them. edit 3: i'm about to give up. nothing i do can convince this program to run. i'm not sure what hte problem is, especially considering that no one else seems to be having a problem. oh a hunch i copied zlib1.dll from my epsxe directory into the zinc directory to see if it made any difference, but it didn't. is there an alternative that i can use? and if so, is it possible to implement it through gameex in a similar fashion? i love how gameex allows you to use one huge mame rom list and yet delegate other emulators to run them. i've read that mame plus plus (discontinued) used to be able to use zincs plugins to help render. is there a current mame offshoot that can help me get these games running?
  2. i have all of the roms in the mame directory of course, but i keep the zinc stuff in its own separate folder along with all of my other emulators. getting model2 to run was a piece of cake. i'm thinking at this point it might just be a compatibility issue. is zinc known to work with windows 7? i've been googling around for a helpful zinc forum, but there doesn't seem to be one.
  3. still no dice i'm afraid. the launcher works just fine, but once it attempts to actually run zinc.exe, the problem persists. is zinc known to be compatible with windows 7? would anyone mind sending me their zinc directory?
  4. yeah, i actually found that post a while ago and gave it a shot. i'm not sure if it's progress or not, but now at least the the entire screen goes to black before zinc.exe stops responding, as opposed to it being in a window before crashing. i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do. do i need to manually tell zinc where the rom folder is or something? does zinc work on default settings for most people? as it is downloaded through the gameex setup utility?
  5. installed zinc automatically through gameex refreshed mame game list playstation category shows up zing is verified at the end of setup yet none of the games load. it just jumps right back into gameex. looking at the gameex setup utility, i found under zinc options "--renderer=.\renderer.znc" i found no renderer.znc in the zinc directory. do i need to download this separately? i downloaded both a d3d and an opengl renderer from the zinc website, and copied the renderer.znc into the main zinc directory, and now zinc actually does open, but it hangs just a moment after with the 'zinc.exe has stopped working' message. i've tried using the included renderer.cfg file that came included with these renderers as opposed to the one that downloaded along with zinc, but it didn't change the effect. is there something obvious that i'm missing?
  6. thanx everyone. you were right tspeirs, apparently the "mapping off (escape) exit" advanced config file is enabled by default in the gameex setup utility. very confusing, seeing as setting 'map keys' to off is supposed to disable this 'press escape to exit' thing. am i just thinking about this in the wrong way or something? anyway, all is up and running perfectly now. love this proggy
  7. i've asked this question before here, and the general consensus is that emulators, when opened by the command line, will always exit when the escape key is pressed. this is due to how the emulators themselves are coded, and not due to any dosbox behavior. i've just installed some dos games using dosbox, and sure enough, whenever the escape key is pressed, the game closes and gameex is relaunched. this is proving to be quite an annoyance, seeing as most games use the escape key to access a main menu. i have 'map keys' toggled at 'no', so as to avoid gameex from closing the game for me, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. is there anything else anyone can tell me about how to re-enable the escape key functionality while in game? it's rendering some classic games (doom, in this instance) unplayable.
  8. hrm. i'm having the same problem. i'm sure the advice posted here will help. also, i've been wondering how to put multiple pc games into one 'emulator' category. the idea of putting several different shortcuts into one 'rom' directory is a great idea. is there any way to do this for pc games that need you to mount an iso? is it possible to create a batch file that can launch daemon tools on a specific game to game basis? edit: figured it out. managed to get the game in question working without the loader, and created a batch file to get it all mounted and ready. i was stumped with this problem when the loader was being used. i'm glad there was an alternative .exe apart from the loader, because i simply could not figure out what process was preventing gameex from restoring. i hope the op has more luck.
  9. is there a way to create a 'pc games' category as opposed to the 'emulated games' category? i'm treating it as an 'emulated games' addition with the 'treat as 1 pc game' feature enabled, but i'd love it if i could create another place to put it on the main startup page. i think i've seen a demo video of someone's cabinet with a 'pc games' category, but i'm not sure where i saw it. would this involve modifying some complex .ini or config files? edit: figured it out. got the idea from another thread on this page. i'm just going to create a folder in my 'roms' directory with shortcuts or batch files to run each independent windows game, then let gameex scan this folder as if it were any other rom list. it'll work like a charm.
  10. trying to get my copy of x-wing vs tie fighter integrated into gameex and i'm a bit confused i suppose i need to forgo the 'emulator setup' section and go straight to external applications the only problem is, there doesn't seem to be a 'launch before' option with external applications. i need this to enable daemon tools to mount my iso image before running the actual .exe file for the game. do i need to trick gameex into thinking that x-wing vs tie fighter is it's own emulator category? setting the 'rompath' and 'command' as well as the 'launch before' daemon tools instruction up just for one game to work? also, once i eventually get a few pc games programmed into the setup section, is there a way to add a PC games category in the game list? or are they just going to show up individually. thanx for the help.
  11. i'm curious myself about the 'multi-disc' thing. what happens if i were ever to get to the end of disk 1 of a three disk game and get the 'please insert disk 2' screen? any thoughts?
  12. thanx tempest. to be perfectly honest i have no idea if kega supports special configs from command lines. i've done some googling on the subject, but the 'fusion' scene doesn't seem to be that active or helpful right now. i've already made the two config files for both configurations, but as to how to get them to load automatically, i have no idea. it's really not that big of a deal though.
  13. really it's just personal preference. i'm building a console-based system which heavily relies on ps2 controllers. in many six button games (especially fighting games) the z and c buttons are bound to the right trigger keys. most genesis games have a simple three button configuration, and i'd prefer to have these be bound to the square, x, and circle buttons on the front. it's mostly a matter of me digging around in gameex and figuring out what it can and cannot do. this program is so deep and accessible, and i'm having a blast testing its limits. i'm not at all sure if it's possible to use specific settings on a per-game basis with emulators, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to do this with gameex. in the mean time, MESS does a great job of letting you re-configure buttons on the fly while in the emulator itself. my only gripe with gameex so far is mostly how emulators respond when running through a command line. many emulators will not let you alt-enter into windowed mode where you might be able to tweak and configure on the fly. granted you'd never do this on an arcade cabinet, but my media computer still has all the standard keyboard/mouse hookups, and i'd like to be able to access some of the gui functions of emulators like kega fusion and nestopia without closing everything down and running them independently from the 'emulators' folder.
  14. is there a way to tell kega fusion to load a specific controller config file for specific games? the basic 3-button configuration for (most) genesis games doesn't work so well with games that typically use a 6-button controller. is it possible to tell gameex to load a different config file for the emulator when loading certain games? the controller configuration settings are only accessible in windowed mode, and pressing alt-enter while using fusion through the command line simply shuts down the emulator. as of now, i think my only option is to make a complete copy of the emulator in another folder, and configure this copy to use a 6-button setting, then adding it as a separate category in the 'emulated games' list. any ideas? edit. hrm. it just occurred to me to see if 'mess' can run gens games correctly, seeing as it allows a mame-style in-game controller configuration.
  15. i'm a bit confused many many many of my games have an impressively detailed description in the gameex front end at the 'play now' 'add to favorites' stage, yet some don't. does it have to do with the name of the file or something? are these descriptions stored locally? or are they downloaded from some online database. would there be a way to 'repair' my mislabeled games so that they might conform better with this database? and if so, where can i find any reference material on the subject?
  16. can't quite figure out what i'm doing wrong. i've used the setup wizard to point directly to my snaps and icons directory, but nothing is showing up in the gameex gui mame directory snap-wise. do i need to unzip the file or something? they work just fine with mameui, just not in gameex edit: crap. just read the fine print, and zip files are not supported. sorry for wasting everyone's time.
  17. and if not, what's the most convenient way to convert an .nrg image file to .iso? edit: i'm trying to set up the SSF saturn emulator but i've hit some snags. i've converted the .nrg file into a functioning .iso, but it still isn't working. i think i must be missing a step in terms of the built in gameex 'virtual drive' system. do i need to tell the specific emulator which disk drive to use? in which case, do i need to have the 'virtual drive' already enabled in order to give the emulator the correct info before i load gameex? the .log file mentions near the bottom that it's "Unable to mount ISO. Did you install ISO Support when installing GameEx?" is this a feature found in the advanced setup utility? or do i need to run the original install file and look for it? here's some info. command line : SSF.exe[-VIRTUALDRIVE-] edit: i've made some progress. realized i needed to re-download the install file to get the iso support, but it's still not mounting the images automatically. i need to mount them in the 'clonedrive' myself through windows or SSF reports that the drive is empty. edit: i think i've concluded that it cannot indeed mount .nrg files. edit final: YUP! don't use .nrg. use magiciso or something else to convert to iso. i'd delete this thread if i could. edit nevermind: nope! as it turns out, when i mount the converted .iso file either in daemon tools or the gameex iso program i can't get past the opening cutscene. now it's a real shame that virtual clone drive can't mount .nrg's, as that seems to be the only format that ssf likes. oh well. i guess i'll experiment around with different methods of converting .nrgs to .iso. OR is it at all possible to use daemon tools as the 'virtual drive' feature of gameex? i'm not exactly sure what that would entail. edit: ok. i think i've figured out how to use daemontools instead of virtual clone drive for image mounting, i just haven't been able to get it to work. i found out that the standard command line for mounting something in daemontools is something along the likes of dtlite.exe" -mount 0,"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" i've gotten it to work from a command line, but i can't seem to be able to integrate this into the ssf launch settings. here's what it looks like. Command Line SSF.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe" -mount 0,"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" everything theoretically checks out, yet daemon tools isn't mounting like it does when i simply use the command line. any ideas? edit forever: OOP! EUREKA! got it working. all i had to do was add a spare quotation mark somewhere and move the "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\dtlite.exe" -mount 0,"[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" bit to LAUNCH BEFORE. now deaemon tools can mount any image i want. man this is a great program.
  18. i keep attempting to download some emus from the setup utility only to get a "the remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found" i know these were working the last time i did this sort of thing. is the server down?
  19. hah! that did it. i copied and pasted the original tip. should have known that taskSKILL was a typo
  20. odd. it didn't work. do i need to insert a filepath or something?
  21. i'm using this feature to open joy2key for use with nulldc, (which oddly enough doesn't support gamepads for some cockamimi reason). now, joy2key works great and all, but i was wondering if there were a setting hidden somewhere in gameex to tell it to close joy2key when nulldc closes as opposed to leaving it open. thanx all.
  22. i know, i was just wondering why the default option was so all inclusive. it all works out now.
  23. anyone have a good command line to play turbo grafx cd games on mednafen? the default one isn't working as of now. the game i'm trying to run came in a .rar, and expanded into 23 different files. the first is a .cue, and the rest are 23 separate 'tracks' track 2 and 22 are .iso files, and the rest are .mp3s my hunch is that the default command line for mednafen doesn't support this filetype(s), seeing as it's an identical command line for running standard turbo-grafx 16 cartridge roms. "mednafen.exe -fs 1 "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" i've also attempted to use magic engine, but none of the roms show up, and i suspect they're being filtered out. perhaps this is a bad rom. it wouldn't surprise me if someone converted the .wav audio files to .mp3 in order to save space, but breaking the functionality in the meantime. i found some info on another forum, but nothing seems to work. edit: oh, and as an afterthought, i have downloaded and installed the bios files, just in case. edit final: turns out i had a bad rom. all is well. although, i did discover that i have no idea how to automatically boot magicengine with a rom on startup. selecting a game in teh frontend only opens the emulator, and you have to boot the rom from within the menu.
  24. ah hah. thanx for the info. now i can stop trying to fix a problem that isn't there. oh, and the mame list updated just fine. it still lists games by the name of the zip file when looked at under 'emulated games', but the 'mame' category in the main menu lists them by name.. all of them....each and every mame game it can think of. isn't it a bit strange that it would list every single game available as opposed to the ones in your library by default? is it normal to assume that mame users have the entire catalog?
  25. that's...really weird. thank you so much for the help. it's updating now just fine. i was hoping it would be something simple. i'm learning all of this as i go, so hopefully i'll be a bit more prepared for future problems after what i've learned with this one. from what i gather, the correct path was listed in the configuration utility, but i had to change it to something else and then change it back for it to register. weird.
