3D Models for GameEx
Drakendoder replied to headkaze's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
i'm kind of a sketchup-wiz for my work as an illustrator. If some person would like to see an unorthodox designed cabinet realised, i think it would be fun for me to take on the challenge. But please link or forward me plenty of artwork/photographs of the cabinet to work out the design with. And have patience of course, i'll be doing it in my free time, so i'll keep a gentle pace -
you are a gentleman and a scholar frequency this works handsomely and i'm plenty satisfied with the results, thanks a lot!

trying to replace xarcade joysticks with beter ones
Drakendoder replied to mariozeferino's topic in General
*BUMP* i found this thread through google, and by now i have the magstick plus installed in my x-arcade (if interested i'll upload a picture) things that are mandatory: the plates that are delivered to mount the sticks don't fit(holes don't overlap). I had a metalweldingthingy-shop (dunno english word) make 2 new ones for me based on a sketch that was drawn by a simple measurement of the available room for the plate and the original holes. This cost me about $25 but it works like a charm. No other modifications are necessary about the stick however: i like the throw, yet i hated the microswitches used in the magstick. Too much power is needed to throw the stick around, and the click-sound never grew on me. i stumbled on this (no spam intended) thread on another forum and i used the info to adapt the original x-arcade-microswitches to the magstick. This already is 100 times better, and in combination with the short throw i'm actually getting close to the joystick i wanted. Best microswitches would be somewhere in between though, not too light not too hard, perhaps something for the future. The balltops have proven for me to be a waste of money. Even the XL-version that supposedly are developed for bottommounted panels seem to be way too short for my taste. That sucks, because they look beautiful. But in the end for me functionality prevails so i went back to the standard option. This works well. The 4-way to 8-way feature is of course nice about the stick, although it isn't what i hoped it to be. Its much better than the alternative for sure, but i can imagine a cross-like profile in the end works 50 times better. Because of the short throw the direction-inputs are pretty close together and it takes a bit more practice to hit the directions you want 100%. The short throw increases the responsetime immensely when set against the x-arcade original sticks. If you like shoot-em-ups like i do, you know how vital this is. All in all, they are an improvement. Based on the price however (about 5-6 times the cost (incl. shipping) for 2 x-arcade sticks) i would seriously suggest to look around for all of your options and consumerreviews. I can't imagine there aren't better options out there. I don't have the experience to tell for sure though. of course you can ask any question you may have that i didn't answer already -
tx frequency, this is helping me in the right direction, just not quite there yet with the tag , at least some communication between gameex and vlc is established, only oddly game-ex seems to give the filename in parts ?!?!? So VLC opens with an errorlog (in dutch, so i won't c/p it) that seems to translate that it receives the filename in parts?? log goes something like (for the example i'll use c:\video\movies\sample.avi) error: can't find 'vide', unable to open error: can't find 'o\movi', unable to open error: can't find 'es\sam', unable to open error: can't find 'ple.avi', unable to open wt(heck)??? any suggestions? if anyone has another external mediaprogram that he or she does know is fully and seamlessly functional with game-ex, i'm all ears as well of course thanks in advance,

looks good draco, you keep your concept straight and simple and seem to be sticking to it. This often works out best -

i don't know wether it bothers you, or you may have intended for a reason unknown to me, but looking at the daphne-screen on the right i see a white outline on the dragon that personally would bug me. This often is the result of using something like the magic wand-tool in photoshop and deleting the surroundings. For future reference, if you would invert the selection and shrink it (somehow works a bit better than not invert and expand) by 1 pixel (sometimes 2), invert and then delete, it will leave you with a clean cut and rids you of the border. Getting rid of borders like that in general tend to blend different pictures better into one new one. Hope this helps, -
Hi Tom, thanks for helping out, i did what you asked, and updated from 11.07 to 11.08. In the setup wizard i changed the key, and this worked, so thats one down....buttt one to go. The video-issue isn't resolved. I tried implementing Videolan (VLC) into the configmenu, because it supports command lines, but so far no luck. The thing i tried is (path)/vlc.exe "[path]/[file]" --fullscreen, but vlc opens and says its unable to find [path]/[file]. I know, it was a bit of longshot lol I'm looking further into it, because like i said i don't mind switching to VLC, but i wonder how GameEx communicates with VLC as to what file needs to be opened. Any thoughts? regards

Hi all, first the good news: gameex proves to be bug-free now on my system now!! no crashes no nothing, just awesome. With the catalyst suite having improved on their profilemanager with an update as well, i feel finally nothing short of the much desired 'seamless' experience thanks for everyone working on the product the bad news (but i hope its small) -all of a sudden pressing 'L' on my tankstick (wich is the 2p fire-button), i am immediately returned to a new game-ex menu called 'in game' with the the options to 'resume game', 'exit game', 'add to favorites' and 'record video'(maybey 1 more i forgot). Together with a brief description about the game. I figured i would just disable it in the gameex-config, or change its inputkey, but somehow i'm unable to find it. The closest thing i found was a feature called 'in game key' under the input section wich read '76'. But clearing this number nor changing it to 00 solved the issue, so i guess this isn't what i'm looking for? any assistance is appreciated -second problem seems to be with displaying video (avi). This used to be fullscreen, and now it is still buttt...not completely. It leaves a little desktop (about 1/6th) in bare sight on the right revealing my desktop gadgets. Any idea what i could do? I have no problem switching to another videoplayer (VLC preferably) if that solves the problem, but do these integrate as well like the built-in player (auto-fullscreen; no buttons or bars etc)? thanks in advance for those chiming in , regards,

hi all, i revamped my previous skin with an entirely new look and feel (to the point almost nothing is the same lol). I tried to give a bit of a modern hommage to the colourful capcom -nineties with all of its comic-like artwork.....yet remain practical in the needed space for optimal readability. Yes, it's boxart and vid-preview free(although i left some room for it just in case), so probably this doesn't appeal to the large crowd that embraces this feature in front-ends. I like that too, but its either all or nothing for me, so i try to protect myself for endless nights of searches in order to "get 'em all"..something i know i'm able to lol Anyway, this works for me and i hope you like it! you can watch in better quality by clicking , if you do comments are of course much appreciated, thanks in advance for those -
the silence is deafening, just close the thread and bury it already

allright, this is a bit ackward In light of what you said i tried finding out what 'loaders' were used during the startup of the process, but couldn't find any in the Taskmanager processes list. So i figured my best bet would be launching AutoHotkey WindowSpy to see if anything popped up there, and sure enough i was amazed at how many exes were loaded in a brief second during the intros. Exactly at the point where normally GameEx Music starts to play again. I couldn't find those exe-files in the directory anywhere, so i tried googling them......they were all Trojans, Malwares etc. I updated my free AVG as soon as possible (it had been disabled for 3 weeks, right before i 'got' Trine, and had been a bit lazy at fixing it) and sure enough red flags were flying all over the place. The ackward part of course is that you don't get these Trojans, Malwares and such if you have a legal copy, only when obtained on the darker sides of the web. So i guess i'm rightfully punished, but for the record i would like to state i'm no enemy of the PCgaming-Industry as i have bought just about over 50 games, most of them with the sole purpose of rewarding its developers. I do like to try before i buy though, so i'm guilty for that as charged Altitude, the other game, i in fact did buy legally but obviously there seem some problems with steam loading up as well probably confusing Steam. I also have StreetFighter IV through steam(also legally), but there i have it all working inside a AHK-script wich probably makes it all 1 process in the eyes of GameEx. Okay now i gotta run, i hear sirens roaring up into the streets... BB is everywhere

no "cmd", GameEx is the only task listed when i've quit the game, and i am not returning to game-Ex but am left at my desktop with AmbienceMusic from GameEx menu playing on my speakers i'm not sure what you meant, but i deleted the link for a Windows-Game that worked fine, and made a new .lnk for the list. Again, the game worked fine. Mind you, every game still works great except the two(Altitude, Trine) i mentioned. No, when i press 'Play this Game' the music stops, and the game starts up. About 4-5 seconds in-game when you still get the introscreens from developers and so on, the music from Game-Ex starts playing again, and in fact doesn't stop anymore. It keeps playing when i exit the game, although i'm not returning to the GameEx menu and taskmanager tells me it's running fine. i'm really clueless about this one. I checked all parameters from the .lnk-files but couldn't find any differences between the games that have and do not have this problem thanks for the help so far guys,

just for completion purposes, i ran game-ex under 'normal' conditions where i can't get back into game-ex with Alt-tab like in the previous post, the log is identical except for resolution, and this is the last part... 19:05:05.5 11-3-2010: Running: cmd.exe /c E: E:\PC Games\Trine\trine.exe 19:06:47.9 11-3-2010: Exiting GameEx! 19:06:48.0 11-3-2010: Saving Settings <-- last line in the log Exiting game-ex was done through TaskManager, where i had to shut it down. When i've exit the game, and am looking at my desktop while i'm unable to return to game-ex, the music is still playing though, and Taskmanager says it's working fine. When i rightclick in the taskmanager, to manually maximise game-ex, i get a black hiding-os screen but am not able to return to the menu-screen, nor does game-ex respond to my ESC-key that would normally exit the program instantly

Perhaps that was the case because i ran game-ex on my primary screen, not my secondary (wich is running standalone as a primary device when i start up game ex normally). I hope this helps, but have a feeling more info will be needed, so ask me and i try to deliver Thanks!,

okayyy....how do i open up a log-console ?

Hi all, Adding windows games into gameex has been not much of a problem so far, and i think i've added about twenty so far. The last 2 games, Altitude via Steam and Trine (running independently), suddenly have risen the following problem: Exiting the games doesn't return me to game-ex. After exiting, Game-ex is still runnning in the process-manager, but even alt-tabbing my way back into it doesn't do the trick. I have to forcefully end the program with Taskmanager, and start it back up again to get it working properly again. Also, and this goes for both games, the ambient-music from game-ex menus keeps playing while in-game where normally of course it doesn't. It leads me to believe game-ex doesn't take its 'normal' action when launching a game, but somehow remains in a more active-role process-wise(?). But thats just guessing, because i basically have no clue. The fact that it happens to two unrelated games two times in a row, after twenty games that do not have these problems (and still don't), makes me fear i may have toggled a switch in the gameex-config i wasn't supposed to. But i have no idea if this is true (and i can't remember fiddling with anything), nor do i know if this actually is the problem. Any ideas..anyone? Thanks for any help in advance

well i got it to work when you said you had it working i tried digging a bit deeper, and after searching for some tweakable options i decided to raise the priority level of the Logitech Wingman Event Monitor in the Taskmanager-processes to 'high' . It seems to do the trick, although i'm clueless as to why this works lol thanks, tempest!

I finally felt like i found the perfect solution for all problems concerning some PC-games i want to play via game-ex, only to feel obstructed in sight of the finish line once more Aside from my tankstick, i have a logitech gamepad wich has been a great help in setting up some x-arcade-unfriendly games. So far in some cases with unmappable keyboard-only games (Sonic & Sega All-stars Racing, Toki Hori) i have been using an ahk-script with a joy2key-utility linked into it. This worked, but had a big disadvantage of having to use a different key than the normal one to exit back to game-ex, because is escape is necessary for shifting through menus and it is necessary to exit both game and ahk-script to return to game-ex. It all doesn't matter, because i discovered the gift of Logitech Profiler, wich helps you set up different profiles with different games that it auto-recognises when you start up the game. I figured my AHK-scripts and Joy2Key-utilities could be out of the window and exiting the game the 'normal way' would return me back into game-ex in one swift motion. It all works perfectly OUTSIDE game-ex, but when i try to launch the games INSIDE game-ex the logitech profiler doesn't work. It seems to fail to notice the games are started. Can anyone please help me out with either a solution or a workaround for this problem, you're a lifesaver :( thanks in advance,

mehhh...personally i didn't like setting the emulators up at all anymore after a few days. I'm just a perfectionist, so i couldn't help myself getting further and further into it. What made it such a drag whas that i had a to-do list wich would outline say 5 things i had to do before i considered the setup finished, but by the time i had those 5 things finished, 5 new ones had popped up. I have litterally page after page of choirs that resulted because of this, and i was feeling like a donkey chasing a carrot on a string held in front of me...feeling 'almost there' for weeks on end is exhausting. Sorry to sound so negative, but i'm just really glad it is finished now and told myself to keep my hands away from it(because i can still think of 1 or 2 things that ...aaarrgghh). Building a cab seems cool though as i like handyman-projects and it seems way more challenging(my personal drug of choice), but since i'm still a student i'm way too poor to afford it. Now that i finished, i can finally start to enjoy the seamless wonder of retro-gaming i lost sight off in the process. And it's mighty fine i must say

it's weird eh, i guess for me it is the same... i was talking to a friend lately about this, and i said for me this is therapeutic in dealing with a traumatized youth where i stood for ages at the campingsite watching all these intros of some 2 or 3 arcadecabs at the localbar for afternoons on end. I would watch the intro plus a random short piece of gameplay loop endlessly figuring how awesome it would be to OWN this. Now 20 years later i have it all set up, after working tirelessly on making it a work like it takes no effort at all, just to sit on the couch for 5 minutes, watching the game-exmenuscreen and think: I NOW HAVE IT ALL bwahahahaha!! But then....i don't feel as satisfied as i pictured myself feeling. I think i have to quit gameex for a month or two, then on a rainy day fire it up and think: wtf, i can just play anything at the click of a button how amazing is that. I now drag the mental recollection of all the hours i put in with me with each game i fire up, wich takes away the click-of-a-button-feel for me. I have to shrug it off first. I'm such a freak lol

My own customised widescreen theme. If you're wondering, no boxart or all that stuff. Nothing spectacular, just my cup of tea I guess there are still some things i'll tweak in the future, consider this v1.0 lol is the direct link for better quality -
i uploaded mine for you from my win7 x64 AMD Quad system. It's compiled for v0.136u2, i hope it works out \

bump i have the same problem with switchball. It gives me a dialog figuring it's a direct3d problem. Telling me to update drivers, but they are the most recent. I tried a program like refreshlock since oddly enough my TV can only be set to a 25hz interlaced refreshrate but that doesn't work (i still can't alter it) and i thought maybe that had something to do with it. Despite the 25iHz i have a great non-interlaced(as far as i can see at least) picture thats hell of a lot better than my old SVideo picture running at 60Hz on a CRT TV. Perhaps all this info makes a lightbulb go off somewhere? I sure like plasmapong
