I got it to work.. i dont quite no how. Turns out I dont have a galaga bezel so thats why that one wasnt appearing (it was the one I was mainly testing) There is a galaga bezel in the artwork folder, but it must be corrupted. Anyway, what I DID do was manually edit the mame.ini file (as suggested) and I did a bunch of other things... any one of them could have fixed it. One side effect is the bezel/transparent graphic of the game name is now at the bottom of the screen and i have to turn it off manually on every game now. But I can live with that. But its fixed for the most part!

I have been using gameex for over a year now, and this may be a newb question, but please hear me out. I had to completely replace the HD of my cabinet, which meant my settings went as well. After months of fiddling, I finally got my cabinet, Slik Stik and everything working almost perfectly. Except the bezels dont work. I only get the GameEX bezels. I read in this forum to "disable bezels" but that just gives me a black screen. Can someone tell me the lazy-mans guide to enabling bezels in mame. One of the downsides of all the tweaking of settings is that I have artwork, emulators, etc all over the place... Im not sure which mame is the installed one sometimes. But I think I have it all installed and pointing towards one installation. What I can't figure out is how in MAME I activate bezels. Do I add something to my mame startup string in the GameEX configuration? Maybe Im missing something really really easy, but one of my projects this weekend is to figure it out! Its frustrating having people over, they try something like Golden Tee and they can't see the bezel with the slice/hook graphics that used to be on there. Any help is appreciated... if I figure it out I'll post on here. That (besides my new YouTube issues, and suddenly not being able to play karaoke midi) are the only problems left. Thanks, Troy

everything seems fixed except one weird thing. I cant type the "a" with my USB keyboard. And when I type, it skips certain letters that are made bigger in the lower left part of the screen. I cant seem to actually click on the letters to search for anything either. I'll try to do a video. Also, is there a way to NOT make it show the video information for the 3-5 seconds after you start it. in other words, not show the light blue bar with the title? Ive tried several options and it doesnt seem like you can - which is fine, just asking. Is the white screen while loading an IE or screen banking issue? Can that be changed to a logo, or is it just something i have to deal with? Many thanks, Ill try and do a video tonight.
-
I was getting the same thing, will try it again tonight.
-
great, ill check it out tonight! So will it accept keyboard input for search or are you meant to use the mouse on click on letters?
-
Sounds good, ill take a video too.

I think there are 2 issues. 1) Gameex "blacks out" and then restarts with video issues when I try to type into the search area using my usb keyboard. Are you supposed to use the mouse and click on letters to search? 2) The white screen apperars when a youtube video is loading. Once it is loaded, it seems to play fine, BUT you can't stop a video. If you use the arrows at the top of the screen the video still plays (banked) and flickers. Attempting to play another video results in both videos playing at the same time. Currently the only way I can even attempt to play a video is through the "most popular" or "recently updated" options I will try and do a video tonight that shows this happening.

This particular error is with the newest version. Here is what happens: I go to the new YouTube section Go to Search try to type in the search box and it crashes. GameEx restarts, but with a weird font overlay of the option (the word Video appears in big letters over the normal screens) If I go to YouTube and Search again, it happens again. Eventually the crash console comes up. I have submitted the crash message to you once or twice. I have never tried the weather section or accessing gameex.com within the program. I think i have weather turned off. I can try though.

Yes, youtube itself works fine in ie8 installed and the latest flash If I go to Search and Youtube (or choose Search from the Youtube section) it completely crashes. I submitted the report through the interface, but Ill post it below. The new version (Release 11/9) yields the same white screen. Not sure if you meant the latest one corrects it, or a future one.

Thanks, hope the log helped.

Update: the top nav bar problem is resolved: If you turn off "media controls" it cuts off the entire bar in Deep Purple. Turning media controls on replaced the graphics so its a full bar again. No change for the YouTube issue though.

Sure, didnt think there would be a log since nothing was "wrong"- its really strange there isn't an "error" just a white screen (no audio either) Here is the log, nothing out of the ordinary, except it cant find my playlist (dont know where that config item is) Also cant get bezels to work correctly, but that is a minor annoyance and livable. But the youtube videos just pull up white. very strange. Im using IE 8 all updated, plus the Cyberlink codecs for DVD, and just about every codec is installed. 23:39:57.6 11/6/2010: GameEx: Version 11.33: Starting Log 23:39:57.6 11/6/2010: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 23:39:57.6 11/6/2010: Operating System Name: Windows XP 23:39:57.6 11/6/2010: Operating System Version: 5.1.2600 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: .net Framework 2.0 Installed 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: .net Framework 3.0 Installed 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: .net Framework 3.5 Installed 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Intel® Celeron® CPU 2.53GHz, 2047MB 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: 2.54Ghz 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Running Randomize() 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Loading PlugIns 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Running Misc startup tasks 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Setting Menu types 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Opening Configuration File 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Getting Configuration Values 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Using Theme: Default - Deep Purple 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Deep Purple 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Launching HideOS.exe 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Hiding Taskbar 23:39:57.7 11/6/2010: Is Media Center running? I just noticed the YouTube option - don't use my cabinet but once a week or so... The search function appears to work, but when I click on "play video" all I get is a white screen. No error per se, any ideas? Also, my menu bar at the top (with the arrows) doesn't go the whole width of the screen, it cuts off. This doesn't affect gameplay or video play, but it cuts the text off as well. Its almost like it just "cuts off." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Any help or suggestions, especially the youtube feature is appreciated. Edit: Whoa, all my videos are white now.. that isnt good... Edit 2: Ok, regular videos are ok. However, if I go to the YouTube Search and try to play a video, I get a white screen. Afterwich, if I try to play another video of any format, it ony shows the white screen. But if I exit gameex and go back it, they are fine.

Yep. There were yellow exlamations on the device drivers, luckily I had the ATI drivers installed still on the drive. I still dont know what the windows 7 issue was with the 2nd video playing audio only, but ill just keep it on windowsxp for now since its been about a month since ive had a good working cabinet... and I really want to be using it instead of working on it. lol. Thanks for the help.

Since nobody could (or would) help on my video error problem I reported, I decided to roll back with a fresh install of WinXP. No guesses? Im wondering if its a screen redraw issue, or resizing? Its hard since its not an error I know. The audio keeps playing just the video cuts out after the first one is played.

Hi again - I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7, and added the Shark007 codec pack. The 2 problems I am having are: 1) When playing videos, I like to use the options "play random" or "play all." The first video will play fine. The second one however will only play the audio and the screen is black. moving the mouse (aka trackball) puts the cursor over the screen like it should be playing, but its just plain black. 2) When playing DVD ISO's, the video plays, but there is no audio Since it isn't exactly crashing I don't think there is a log I can provide, but maybe there is? I really would like to get at least #1 fixed, as I tend to use the cabinet more as a TV for background noise, and having it randomly play for hours on end has become a neat feature. Plus I have a lot of 80s music videos i put on there at parties. heh. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I didn't have the problem with windows xp.

Forgive me, this is an odd question, not sure where to post this (if even on this site) Ive had my mame cabinet for a year now, and the trackball (HAPP's) has been great. About a week ago it started to be fussy about up/down and so I took it apart and cleaned it. In the process, I accidentally ripped 2 wires out of the ps2/usb cable on the 4 pin connector. oops. So, I ordered a new one, along with new shafts and bearings just in case. I installed the new shafts and bearings, and the new cable, and im still having the same issue. Do you think I should order new pcb boards and maybe new spinning wheels (that go on the shafts) or could something else be the culprit? It works at very low momentum, just not when you spin it (as you would for Golden Tee for instance). any thoughts are appreciated. Id hate to plunk down $120 on a new assembly altogether just to fix it.

I just double checked... and you are correct, it only does the check once - per playing session. If I reboot, then come to play the video again, it tries to check the description again, and if my net is maxxed out (which it frequently is) it takes 1-2 minutes to get to times played. So it is checking the description/artwork once every reboot, not once "period." Dunno if that helps or not. Troy

Is there a way to just clear the thing out? I suppose I can find the file somewhere in the archives here, but if you have the time, a pointer to it would be great. Ill try the editor in the meantime.
-
Ill try and reboot and see if it does it again. Thought it did it even if it was one ive viewed before... thanks

Im having problems ... although not earth-shattering, with GameEX since the last 3 version updates. Specifically, when i go to play a video (havent tried a game yet, but I assume it will be the same) it takes about a minute and a half to get to the "times played" screen so I can actually play it. It hangs on the interstitial screen with the 4 white boxes and then finally goes to the times played, last played, and play screen. I recently defragmented and that didnt help. Is there a way to just clear the times played database and see if that helps? Or do you have any other ideas? Thank you.

I think you are right. I actually had to go into the configuration tool and choose a codec. What I did do was install a trial version of Cyberlink as well... so Im not sure what corrected it, but everything seems to be working again now. So the only thing on my "checklist" is getting Daphne working right. One of these days! Troy

I am currently having the same issue - but like I mentioned in my other topic (posting here just to show I did find it).. DVDs WERE playing correctly, then I wanted to get M4vs working, so I installed the Shark codecs and ffdshow codecs, and DVDs not working. But not m4v's are. I reinstalled the nvidia codecs, but still no dice. BEFORE: DVDs work M4Vs dont NOW DVDs do not work M4Vs will I guess id rather have it like it is now since I can play dvds on my DVD player, but still - I wonder why it suddenly stopped.
