Sorry but I'm gonna add a "me too" to this thread. I have been away for about four months and downloaded the latest version yesterday. I have had no success in two days at getting gamex running. My logfile looks like the one above. i.e. no error is reported but the system is locked solid. The only way out is a reset and the same thing happens all over again. Even on the most basic settings I have had no success. In addition, I cannot get any video working in Gamex and if I do attempt to set it up in either the advanced setup or the wizard then Gamex starts with a black screen, soundtrack is heard but there is no further response from Gamex. Task manager says Gamex is not responding and ctrl-alt-delete is the only answer. At a guess this is video card or codec related but I've used the same codec pack with Gamex previously over an extended period of time (Gamex versions from about 3.xx to 6.xx). New Video card in the interim is 8800GTS and I know that it's most likely the cause of my video problem but that doesn't explain the hanging when scrolling through the game list. If everyone else is having fun and their systems and software are working, I'm very happy for them. I only mention any of this because clearly there are a few other people having similar problems and if they're not as patient as I am they will have already given up. There is a problem here and I wish I could be more helpful in trouble shooting it but if there is no problem reported in the logfile I'm not sure what else I can do to help.

Hi Tom, Thanks for your swift (as usual) reply. But I'm so confused... Good news is everything is now OK! Bad news (sorta) not sure how it happened and I seriously tried every thing before I saw your reply. AFter which I tried 16 bit, no good, back to 32 bit is good. No other changes made and no autoupdate. I swear if I catch the Gremlins they're gonna get a whoopin. Sorry to bother you. Great program! Couldn't live without GameEx any more.

I am aregistered user but cannot get the DVD on hard disk to work. You mention that a codec is required and maybe that is my problem. I use Nero Showtime outside of Gamex, have Klite and Matroska codec packs and all video formats work perfectly outside gamex. Video play fine inside Gamex. Only DVD and DVD on HDisk do not seem to work. I have disabled and enabled ffdshow but this has no effect. On the plus side the artwork does download so at least I can see what I'm not able to watch. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I think I just get frustrated because I am more of a programmer and expect people to be excited about programming like I do. I have been using gameex since the 3.0 releases and it does just keep getting better and better. It makes me love videogames like I used to because I have my setup soo sweet and organized. I will post a new thread when my DOS thing is ready with 2300 games integrated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm excited I tell ya! I'm new to GameEx but not to the emu/pc scene. I've been mameing since the 0.3 version and playing with various emus for years. People may laugh but I actually owned an atari 800, bought it brand new in 1982 and paid a mint for it. Played every arcade / pinball game there was in the 70's before that. Did the MAC and then the Amiga upto and including the 486sx crossover boards befor finaly jumping ship to true pcs. I love this stuff and I appreciate the efforts of all the guys that are contributing to this thriving community that Tom has unknowingly put together.

Are you talking about a black border or a picture border. If its the latter you can disable the artwork in the miscellaneous options of most mame guis. I suppose its relevant to ask what build of mame are you running etc.

Yo Incubus158, some of us only just got here. OK until now there has been no interest in DOSbox but I be usin it myself a bit and would love to checkout your fine work. Collaberatin on databases is also if interest to me. I have a fairly sizable collection that needs sorting and this would be perfect motivation for me to get organised. For the record GameEx is awesome, but I only jumped on at 5.50. I liked it so much I registered sight unseen. I've started to look back through the posts and am still on page 36 moving backwards to catch up. If others have already begged, and you have posted, I will soon see. If not be a bro and share with someone who will appreciate your effeorts.
