I was hoping maybe there was a windows call that only changed local desktop color that could be used instead of the global one, and he could only set the font for that screen instead of system wide. I like having one shared account.

Don't know if there is anything you can do about this, but I added my cabinet to my domain the other day, and noticed that when gameex changes the background to black, hides the desktop icons, and changes the font, these get pushed to every other machine I'm logged into. I set them back a few minutes later they get pushed right back. I went into policy manager and tried to turn off roaming profiles everywhere I could find them, but for the life of me I can't get the profiles from getting pushed out.

Ahh, I have only run the setup wizard once, no wonder I didn't find it. ;-)
-
When I was having this problem before, someone suggested I run a gameex config check tool, but I never found the tool.
-
I would think the mame directory would work, but I usually set mine to blank. I had the pcb one cause mine to not show games when it was set to a path that didn't exist.
-
When this happens to me, it's always been on of the secondary paths that wasn't right, something like the link to pcb files pointing to a directory that doesn't exist.

Seems to me the plywood/mdf is one of the cheaper things in the project. Good plywood is $50 a sheet, and you can spend hundreds quickly on keyboard controllers, buttons, monitors all of which will need upgrading down the line, but hopefully your cabinet won't. I'd rather stick a used xbox one with a hacked gamepad and a 19" tv from a garage sale rather than skimping on the wood. You can easily swap the guts out for better guts later a piece at a time, you build a bad foundation, you are stuck with a bad foundation.

I got one of the go2live things at target for $5 after xmas, I hooked it up and played a few of their games online. It kept shutting off during play, wasn't accurate, and only seemed to work while in a web browser. Maybe there is a mouse driver for it I missed.
-
I load the bluetooth drivers, load that BlueSoleil crap, load glovepie, load script, click run, blue screen of death. Wish like hell I could get it to work right.
-
I didn't know if Tom realized that some paths give you good messages like c:\mame\roms not found, while others display a much less meaning full error message that can leave you scratching your head. I didn't realize there was a tool to validate paths. ;-)
-
Birch plywood is a million times better than mdf. I would figure you would need to use a 32" or larger monitor moved back some for 4 player driving games to be much fun.
-
I was having the same kind of problem, turned out to be some of the mame paths that didn't exist. The config utility defaults some directories to something like emulators\mame32\pcb. All seems to go fine the first time you run gameex, but the next time you run it, no mame roms show up, and you see the error message mame roms not found.

Is it possible to add your own custom buttons? I would like a more touch screen theme if possible. like putting up a mini keyboard on the bottom, I can't seem to get it to let me add custom objects/buttons.
-
I have a 2 player setup with 6 buttons per player, plus a 4 way with 2 buttons, plus a spinner with 2 buttons. Is there a cheaper way to have all these buttons light up in the correct color for each game than 2 $45 LED-WIZs? I think it would be really cool, but the wife isn't going to like be spending another $200 on the control panel.

I have almost every thing on a gig-e nas mapped to G: and some reason, gamex keeps dropping the connection and not finding the drive. Anyone have what could be causing this, if i uninstall gameex and reinstall it, it comes back, otherwise I can't see mame games. It will work for a day or 2, then it starts this crap again. I thought more people would be into this. I picked up one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=160296456452 off ebay, got a 19" 4:3 LCD monitor for $120 with free shipping from newegg, and $100 for a 5 wire touch screen kit for it. Bam under $250 rotating touch screen monitor. Now that it's this cheap to do, I thought many more would be interested. If auto rotation is hard to implement, how about a way to assign a key to rotate, and a direction of rotation?
-
Maybe my search skills are lacking, I have a rotating monitor and have mame set to auto rotate for vertical games. This works great, but it's a pain to have to rotate the monitor back horizontal to move around in gameex, only to have to move it back vertical if the next game is vertical. So how about sticky rotation as an option in gameex. So if you pick a vertical game, when you finish and exit back to gameex have gameex load up vertically, until a horizonal game is picked. Might need to be a 3 way toggle like mame, no rotate, auto rotate left, auto rotate right.

I installed a new geforce 8400 gs and now when gameex starts, it locks up hard. Mouse still moves for a while, but eventually that locks up. ctrl-alt-del won't do any good have to hard reset. Have tried lowering the resolution, etc, am stuck. Is there a advance debug mode that gives more information in the logs? 17:10:41.8 12/19/2008: GameEx: Version 9.76: Starting Log 17:10:41.8 12/19/2008: Operating System Platform: Win32NT 17:10:41.8 12/19/2008: Operating System Name: Windows Server 2003 17:10:41.8 12/19/2008: Operating System Version: 5.2.3790 17:10:42.1 12/19/2008: Checking for versions of .net Framework installed 17:10:42.1 12/19/2008: .net Framework 2.0 Installed 17:10:42.2 12/19/2008: AMD Opteron Processor 250, 4095MB 17:10:42.2 12/19/2008: 2.39Ghz - 2 Cores or CPU's 17:10:42.4 12/19/2008: Running Randomize() 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Loading PlugIns 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Checking for applications to Launch On Startup 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Running Misc startup tasks 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Setting Menu types 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Opening Configuration File 17:10:42.5 12/19/2008: Getting Configuration Values 17:10:42.6 12/19/2008: Using Theme: Default - Media Center 17:10:42.6 12/19/2008: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: Default - Media Center 17:10:42.6 12/19/2008: Using Images from theme: Default - Media Center V1\MEDIA\ 17:10:42.6 12/19/2008: Launching HideOS.exe 17:10:42.6 12/19/2008: Initialising Video/MNG DLL's 17:10:42.9 12/19/2008: GameEx will check for media insertion (may affect performance) 17:10:42.9 12/19/2008: Hiding Taskbar 17:10:43.2 12/19/2008: Is Media Center running? 17:10:43.2 12/19/2008: Checking/Creating LCD Registry values 17:10:43.5 12/19/2008: Check Media Center Exit/Start Mode 17:10:43.5 12/19/2008: Media Center Mode 2 17:10:43.5 12/19/2008: Video previews on. This is so sad.
-
Any idea why with xpsp2, svga crt monitor, able to do at least 1600x1200 would have problems syncing when trying to play quarterback with new bezels enabled?
-
I haven't tried it yet, but does the bezel feature auto skip vertical games you already have artwork/bezels created for? I already have custom ones made for pacman/centiped/galaga/etc that use the orginal artwork as bezels on those games, but it would be nice to have them created for games that I haven't gotten around to making the for.
-
I didn't like the total layout, but I did like that the screens/flyers/video could be repostioned based on if it was a vertical game or not. I thought aspect of it was a slick idea.
