Well I can tell ya this when I double click the .cdg file WMP loads up both the video and audio. So thats all you should need to do for testing. Once you get that going I think your good. Now the problem is making that happen. Here is a capture for my installed files I think may be relevant to Karaoke.

I think the main problem at least that I had which sound like the same problem RedDog is having is that WMP just doesnt know how to open the file. The Karaoke for DirectX is what is needed however the version most people have links to is not compatible with the newer WMP. The GOOD NEWS is that by some miracle I just noticed that I had a folder labeled Karaoke that had the compatible karaoke-3.0-beta3 setup file. What's amazing is that I didnt delete it after installing or since its been on my desktop for about a year. I will attache it but please be aware although I did go through my installed programs list and it does show that it is installed that I make no claim that it will fix your problem or that it will not damage you system although it did work just fine for me. Basicly use at your own risk. karaoke-3.0-beta3.zip

OK well when I started up the Karoke from gameEx after not using it for a while it did not work. It appears that somehow the GDG files lost their association to what file to use. After pointing it to use Windows Media Player it now is working again. However we are still back to square one for you. At least now you know I used WMP to play the files. Also I have both the .cdg and .mp3 for each song in the folder i using. One thing I can tell you is to get it working outside GameEx first. Now my problem is remembering what I did to get WMP to play the files. Let me look through my files and install programs and see if I find any clues.

Its been a while since I tried it but I think I remember getting it to work. Now if I can just remember what I did. I will try a little later to start it up and see what happens as it may jog my memory.
-
OK thanks RedDog! I did try tinkering with it a little but got frustrated and took a break. I will try again soon. Oh and its good to see another SWFL person on the forums. Sunny beaches for us huh?

Is there a guide for using the theme editor? I did try looking around first but nothing that seems to really go over it well enough for me.

Been A while since I set up my mame cab but my HTPC has many emulators some using MESS and I just used the Wait to send key feature to by pass the screen. I do not remember if the integrated MAME feature of GameEx has these parameters. The wait before is hoe many seconds to wait before sending key 1sec + 1000

The path to DTLite.exe is D:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite I see no settings.xml file in my isos folder of the emulator im trying to use this on. When you say try creating a blank one do you mean leave it complete void of text just name it settinggs.xml and place in the directory?

I had to download directly from this website as the repository manager says I need a subscription and I am sure that I have one. after downloading it I did put the dll in the plugin folder. here is the error. This happens when I hit configure for VDL

How does one get to the Virtual Drive Loader interface? The download only comes with a DT Loader.dll and a folder with a test iso file. I tried the config button in the setup wizard plugin page but I get an error window.

No video previews but I would rather have the karaoke feature work than the previews at least in my case. I dont think a video preview is to big a deal however you could use snaps of the band/singers Logo or even a pic of the album or both and just drop in the snap and box folders. Actually I think I would like that more than a video preview. I believe just talked myself into doing just that!

I would also like to note that KaraokeDX was still needed for Karaoke files to work in Windows Media Player. You know you have it installed properly when you can just double click on a *.cdg karaoke file and windows media player plays the karaoke song with words. (Both the .cdg and mp3 file is needed for Karaoke)
-
Ok I came up with a round about solution for my problem. Instead of using the karaoke option in the GameEx wizard I set it up as an emulator using [PC] Microsoft Windows as the chosen emulator. I skipped the download emulator query as I just wanted to have a emulator slot for karaoke. on the emulator setup I renamed everything to Karaoke. I pointed both the working path and rom path to the folder where all my .cdg and mp3 karaoke files are stored. I then used *.cdg as the rom filter. The command line is "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" The rest of this section I left as is. I then moved to the advanced emulator setup. In order to make the karaoke(windows media player) fullscreen I had to put 2000 in the wait before keys box then %{enter} in the keys to send box. Since this uses a {alt+F4} method to exit I also had to choose Mapping off Exit (ALT+F4) in the advanced config box then make sure the enable escape key exit is yes in the input settings of the wizard. using this method give me much more control over setup of Karaoke also if you want the song to just play when clicked instead of going to the info screen first just say yes in disable info page in the adv emu setup area.
-
Well I think I have found a solution to my problem by having a similar issue with another emulator. I am not sure if this is a Windows 10 issue or something else. It would seem that applications, emulators, programs, etc. that use the {Alt+F4} method for exiting the program instead of {escape} makes GameEx think that the program is still running which is correct. Which in my case just made the program minimize instead of exiting like most emulators. So what I had to do after thinking about it was to go into the GameEx wizard then go to Input settings then scroll down to Global Exit and select yes for enable global escape key exit which was off by default for me anyways. Now Project64 exits back to the GameEx screen as it should. I am sure this is one of the reasons this options was put into GameEx just took me awhile to find so I thought this may save somebody some trouble.

Yeah I've been playing with it for a while and it is about the last problem I have with it(Mess). It does work but uses my normal desktops 4K resolution which takes anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds to final sync up with this cheapo Vizio 4K TV I use.
-
Not using the mame core but other consoles like Atari 5200 etc.
-
Anyone know how to set the video resolution in mess? Tried doing it in the mess.ini config file but no change keeps defaulting back to my desktops 4k resolution which is not ideal.
-
Agreed! Right now I am just using trial and error tactics.

Draco, You log says it couldn't open any karaoke video files but you say it still works in GameEx? I noticed in my log that I have Win10 home 64 and you have Pro 64 do not know if that has any bearing on it. Also noticed that mine says No karaoke cache and yours says Laoding Karaoke cache.
-
Yeah but seems like ti would be a simple fix (well at least for somebody) as I can make the karaoke function work by just simply double clicking the .cdg song file. outside of GameEx. I am not sure how GameEx actually plays the file. You know I wonder. I noticed that anytime I play the .cdg file outside GameEx that it does work but no matter what it goes into a small window not fullscreen. There is no simple setting to make it start fullscreen and it does not remember the last state it was in. I have dome some research and their maybe a registry change that can be made to make this happen. Would going into windowed instead of fullscreen possibly stop GameEx from completely swapping over to the karaoke screen and just return back to GameEX? I have not had the chance to do the registry change as of yet but here is the procedure. (SInce I have yet to do this anyone who does must do so at their on risk.) http://www.sevenforums.com/music-pictures-video/258593-how-can-i-have-media-player-12-open-full-screen-default.html#post2651788
