I looked at the log and saw that there were some plugins enabled. I disabled them and the problem went away. I am not sure which one it is, but will play around with it and see.

Here are the files. I am using MAME0262b. Thanks for your help! GameEx.ini log.txt

Can GameEx be the source of any input lag on MAME? I wouldn't think so, but I am seeing unbearable lag in games launched from GameEx but not if I run the game directly from the MAME GUI.

I found some discussion buried in a longer thread that is helping me get the idea. It sounds like they are fixed in terms of what assets are on it, and the editor allows resizing and placement. If I understand things, Image is bound to an image that changes based on the rom being displayed, and image2 is to a video. Is image tied to the path Image Snap and image2 tied to Video Snap in the setup? What are the Select Line and Scroller Objects? It also seemed like the menu displayed is context-sensitive. At least on one theme, the menu on a given emulator would let you change the view based on date, publisher, etc. But on one emulator screen, the menu was more of a navigation menu. What determines which type of menu is displayed? Thanks, -John

I have been poking around with the theme editor to tweak an existing theme, but I am a little confused. It seems like I can move things around on an existing layout, but not really change anything other than position. How are the fields tied to a given asset or list? I was looking through the ini files for maybe a manual way to change things, but I can't find anything that specifies specific paths for images, how lists are managed, navigation behavior, etc. Am I missing something? The main thing I wanted to do was remove the "change view" from the menus. This seems to take you to a screen layout that is difficult that isn't very intuitive to get you back to the default view. Once I figured that out, I thought I might play around a little more. Thanks, -John

I may have posted the problem a long while back, but I could not find anything. I apologize if I did and did not see it. I am trying to get NES to work using MAME0262b. When I use the default command line in the setup, I get the following error. ------------------------------------------------------------- mame.exe nes -cart "D:\PT Torrents\ROMS in Use\MAME\nes\1943.zip" -joy -now Fatal error: Device NES Cartridge Slot load failed: File is not an iNES or UNIF cartridge image ------------------------------------------------------------- The rom files are zipfiles I downloaded and contain several files that end in chr and prg. I was not familiar with the specific image formats referenced. I did find the following command line works outside of GameEx. mame nes 1943 -rompath "D:\PT Torrents\ROMS in Use\MAME\nes" -joystick -nowindow -skip_gameinfo -output windows So, I tried specifying this command line in GameEx: mame nes [ROMNAME] -rompath "[PATH_ROMS]" -joystick -nowindow -skip_gameinfo -output windows but this command doesn't work in GameEx because passes "1943.zip" as [ROMNAME] instead of just "1943" and I get this error. ------------------------------------------------------------- "1943.zip" approximately matches the following supported software items (best match first): * Software list "nes" (Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges) matches: 1943 1943 - The Battle of Midway (USA) 1943jp 1943 - The Battle of Midway (Japan, prototype) 1943j 1943 - The Battle of Valhalla (Japan) 1942 1942 (Japan, USA) 1944 1944 (1943 pirate)------------------------------------------------------------- Any thoughts on how to get GameEx to omit the ".zip" when it passes the argument to MAME? ==================== I also tried Retroarch, but it doesn't like zip files and get this error. ------------------------------------------------------------- [INFO] [Content]: Core requires uncompressed content - extracting archive to temporary directory. [ERROR] [Content]: Failed to extract content from compressed file: "D:\PT Torrents\MAME 0.262 Software List ROMs (merged)\nes\1943.zip". ------------------------------------------------------------- I thought this might be a permissions problem with it trying to extract to a location that needs elevated privileges, so I changed the temp directory in Retroarch to something other than \users\xxx, but I am still having this problem which is why I was trying MAME. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, -John

Does this plugin work well with gamebase entries in the favorites list. I am getting some odd behavior where loading the list causes the screen goes black for a long time and then the list is empty.

I did try another theme, and it has the same behavior... but a day later it is working fine. Not sure what I changed or maybe a reboot fixed it. If I see it again, I will open another thread. Thanks again for the help!

I just noticed this. I configure it for "Very High" and when I go back to that page it is set to "medium". I saw a post from 2013 that stated the config is saved, but just not reflected in Setup Wizard. Is that still the case? If so, when I go to that screen configured to Very High and make no changes, does it change the setting to medium when I exit the page? Thanks, -John

Looks like the upgrade fixed the problem one way or another. It was log overdue. Thanks! One odd thing was my videos weren't playing with the clean install into a new directory. I reinstalled the codecs and no luck, but found a thread that had me change the config and everything is good there. One thing remaining is I was trying to use the Retro Arcade HD which is 1920x1080 (the same as my display), but I am getting overscan all 4 sides. My desktop is fine. Did I mess up a setting somewhere? It is like the background is stretched because the video overlay and other graphics don't line up with the background graphics. Thanks, -John

Finally (2 years after the last pic posted), you can see the inkjet bezel I finally ditched and the custom bezel in place. I have glass over the bezel and screen, but I removed it because the glare didn't really do it justice.

Here is post painting, working on the control layout, and fully assembled but with a temporary inkjet bezel.

I built most of this 3+ years ago, but finally getting around to posting a few pics. I had the idea after reading Ready Player One (before the movie was announced) Nothing incredibly imaginative. I took some plans from http://www.lusid.net/arcade/, trimmed it down since I am not using a CRT, and spent a little time on the controls layout. The marquee and control graphics are slight customizations from some stock designs at https://www.gameongrafix.com/ , and I designed the bezel myself and had them make a professional print of it. The only regret I have is not having a CRT for shooting games. I have an IR based gun (similar to WII I think), but you need to stand so far back for it to work, it is not that enjoyable. But, its not like I don't have a few thousand other games to occupy my time. Here are a few of the early construction pics.

Sorry it took awhile. Usually only have time to play with things on the weekends. Based on your comments, I went through and cleared out any urls in the ini file, but it still hangs. I also disabled all of the emulators except MAME. Thanks for your help! GameEx.ini log2-25b.txt

Sorry if this is covered in another post. I could not find anything in a search. I was trying different themes, and getting pretty poor performance. I typically use the GameEx Animated theme and it performs very well. I tried a number of others like Brokeh and Retro Arcade HD and there are really long hangs with a black screen when I back out of the the list of games on a specific emulator. I thought it might be something that goes away after going in and out of each emulator's list of games, but it remains. Going into a list of emulated games is fast, but backing out hangs for 20-30 seconds. Any thoughts on things to try? I would tell you the version info of GameEx, but I'm not sure where to find it. Thanks, -John

Ok, just having Gamebase integration is really nice. Thanks for the quick response!

In Gamebase, you can create filters to hide things like compilation disks, educational software, etc. When using the Gamebase integration in GameEx, is there a way to apply one of these filters? I could edit the Gamebase database and delete the unwanted things, but you need to do this one at a time. (Apparently the feature to delete all items within the active filter was disabled when it was built to protect those who neglect to back things up before mucking around with them) Thanks, -John

Just going thought my old postings....realized that I never got back to you but everything works fine now. I appreciate the quick response and resolution. Sorry if my incredibly late response suggested lack of appreciation. Since I built my MAME cabinet, I have had several people interested in making their own, and can't recommend to them GameEx enough.

right now the spinner controls the x axis of the mouse when in GamEx Evo. Is there a way to bind it to scroll through the game list?

I see duplicate listings in the MAME Selection page of the Setup Wizard. I am assuming SL stands for Software List, but beyond that not sure how they differed. Is it purely the default paths chosen in the Emulator Setup page? (e.g. /MAME/coleco vs. [PATH_ROMS]\[SYS_GAMEEXNAME])

Ok, I am uploading to /-GameEx-/Other Uploads/jsimon Evo User Date Folder/ Feel free to delete it after you pull it down. I'll keep an eye out on this thread if you find anything. Thanks!

I zipped up the directory, but the file is huge. (174MB) I looked at what is taking allot of space and [LIST_MAME].xml 213 MB and [LIST_MAME_MINI].xml is 172MB. What would be the best way to get you the files?
