I GOT IT! It seems, though this is a completely fresh install on brand new hard drives, that there was a second copy of MAME v258 on each of the two drives, the primary for Windows and GameEx and on the secondary ROM/Art drive. GameEx was attempting to run MAME from the C folder, not the Z folder where I have MAME correctly installed and configured. This is why the frontend could not see the devices or changes as they were being mapped. Tempest, Discs of Tron, Missile Command.. all tested, now that I have deleted the C folder of MAME and pointed GameEx directly to the correct Z folder.. all working as intended. Thank you Draco1962 for the efforts to help us find the issue. Tom.. it's a human or PC error, not the frontend.

And an updated video showing some details.. 20231211_221014.mp4

I believe these are the correct files you are asking for.. please advise if not so. GameEx.ini log.txt

I will grab the files asap, as the machine is not in my current location. As to running Tempest or other MAME games.. Spinner and Trackball operate correctly in Windows. When running a game directly in MAME the Spinner and Trackball seem to operate correctly and show as expected in the Device List and Config Menu. When running any game through the GameEx Frontend, be it MAME or otherwise, that is where the system seems to lose the Spinner and Trackball in the Device List and makes no attempts at input when trying to change the Config Menu options in-game. Yet the GameEx Menu screens will react correctly to the Spinner/Trackball input and move the selection line on GameEx's Game List, Menu Bars, etc.

Hello all. I recently have been working through an issue of a GGG Hi-Low Push/Pull Spinner (running on an Opti-Wiz 2 encoder board) not working while a Trackball was also on that board. I installed a second board of the same type and now the Spinner and Trackball work as expected in Windows (11 Pro) and MAME (v258b_64) as well as in the GameEx (v18.55 if I recall) Menus.. but do not work in MAME when it runs through GameEx (note GameEx Device List image below has red pointer showing and moving on the GameEx Menu screens but does not work in MAME when run through GameEx). Am I missing a setting, command, etc? Images: 1. MAME Device List shows the Keyboard, both Opti-Wiz 2's (one as mouse and one as lightgun?), and both GP-Wiz controllers (joysticks/buttons) 2. GameEx Device List showing only the keyboard and both GP-Wiz controllers 3 -Video-. GameEx Menu controlled by working spinner GameEX Menu Spinner Control.mp4

Small miracles do happen. It was the mini PC I was using as a base for this cabinet build. Replaced it with another, slightly better mini PC that does not have an integrated video chip, instead an onboard AMD specific one, and now everything finally shows up in the videos and VidSnaps. Thanks for the help.

Tried it just now and got back Must be an Admin running a Console Session error. Ran Command Prompt as an Admin and got confirmation that the system found and repaired corrupted files. Yet, still no video in GameEx versions. I have ordered a new PC to test if this is a hardware issue or poor driver setup. Will advise in a day.

18.51 is only available in GameEx Arcade Edition currently? It also shows black screens for the SnapVids. I have even starting converting the Mp4 Vids down to old style AVI. At this point I am about to simply reinstall the entire machine back to its Windows 11Pro restore. (GameEx Arcade ini files attached) GameEx.ini log.txt

After a short delay I now have the latest, at this time, ROM Set and associated MAME Program (both v.258_b). That said.. games I got running overall but still, even with every codec these Forums speak about, I can still get no Video and no SnapVid to run inside of GameEx. Audio is there during the black screens, but no images. They run fine in any other players I have tried. GameEx.ini log.txt

LAV was removed, reinstalled, and are the only codecs in this fresh PC install.

It seems I may have solved one of the issues: Games not launching, simply going to black screen and then returning to GameEx Menu. I deleted and reinstalled the various Bios files and that seems to have sorted the problem on most of the tested items. As to the Videos and SnapVids showing only a black screen or black box in the Games Menu.. no luck thus far after checking and updating drivers and Windows.

These roms run fine when executed through MAME or MAMEUI, but not when chosen through GameEx's Menu. Clearly MAME and the Rom Set version is not so far off as to be the primary issue. The IntroVideos and VideoSnaps play fine on Media Center and other players, yet not in GameEx.

That would seem to be a long list at the moment. I usually do tests by running Die Hard Arcade and X-Men; CotA.. both of which are failing to get beyond the black screen after clicking Play this Game, then CP view. After the black screen of approx 3 seconds it slips right back into the Play this Game menu screen. I am not 100% sure of the ROM Set version. Where might I find that info?

LAV Filters 0.77.2 were already installed. All Options installed. Still no go.

Hi all. Returning to the world of Retro Arcade Building after a decade away and I have run into an odd pair of issues when installing into a 100% New PC Install of GameEx (latest version as of 09.17.2023), Codecs, LAME, and MAME (also latest version). Roms and Paths, both in MAME and GameEx configs all confirmed to be in the 'correct' locations. All my videos, be they Intro vids, Video Snaps, etc do not show in the menus screens. With the game lists I get the sound but just a black square for the preview window on the left of the game info and menu. When running many, but not all, game I hit Play and am taken to a black screen then, after a few seconds, am taken right back to the Play Game menu. Video demo attached for ease of review. 10000000_7559059727442948_5229674082464693280_n.mp4 GameEx.ini log.txt

So it does seem to be some really strange ROM issue. ROMs I have had, in working order, for well over a decade, suddenly are not working in newer versions of MAME. This is a very strange thing as usually the list of working ROMs grows, not goes backwards in my experience (usually). Really, really strange.
-
I think I see an issue, based on your suggestion of ROM directories. Looks like GameEx and MAME are not playing nice due to different paths... testing now.
-
Missing ROMs? Yet they play just fine when accessed through MAME or MAMEUI, outside of GameEx. R (Arcade) Drive is a physical drive attached to the PC by external HD USB.
-
R Drive is the drive where MAME, ROMs, GameEx and all other 'Arcade' files are located. Not sure how the above image helps me define where the error is, I only see missing items but no details as to where they might be missing from.

Marvel SH vs Street Fighter (USA) will load to 59%, then do the crash after single fast white screen flash, returning back to 'Play This Game' ROM options list. Runitgame.bat opens, window flashes by too quickly to read, then does the same 'loads to 59%' and crashes, window closes.
-
Run runitgame.bat after attempting to play one of the failing games.. but run the program with GameEx still open or close the GameEx FE and then use runitgame? I do not recall the GameEx version which was running well before this new version was installed. I believe it was first used back in April of 2017 (MAME v185 I believe) on this PC when it was a Windows 7 machine. Since then the PC has grown into a Windows 10 box and the GameEx update was done just two days ago.
-
Everything runs perfectly outside of GameEx and MAME never had this issue with GameEx until the most recent update of GameEx. Files, I believe the correct ones, of the last session attempting to run a Marvel Fighter, attached. Thanks. log.txt GameEx.ini

Hello all. Windows 10, latest GameEx FE, MAME .127u5 with equivalent ROM Set The MAME program suddenly no longer runs certain games. It has always been stable before and never failed to open a ROM but now, after the install of the newest GameEx FE MAME will run some ROMs fine but nearly every Capcom or other 'Fighting Game' style ROM will load partially (59-99%), then it will pause for 2-3 secs, screen quickly blinks white once, then the ROM will crash back to the MAME menu at the Play This Game selection. Note: When playing MAME directly, not with GameEx, these crashing ROMs run 100% correctly and without issue. As noted this is a new problem that NEVER took place before the install of the latest GameEx version. Thoughts?
