i notice that when i replaced explorer.exe with gameex, using the instantsheller program..... sometimes gameex comes up and it can't load any snaps/background. (i'm using background/fullscreen snaps btw). basically gameex loads up instead of explorer but i always get a black background. if i restart gameex its ok. also i dont get any intro sound. anyone else have this problem?

which program is this?

has anyone found that kega fusion hard locks their machine sometimes? i discovered this while by accident while i had it enabled as one of the screen saver modes ... then, the hard way, trying to play one of the batmans (the more photo realistic one...batman returns?) normally it works beautifully .. but some roms seem to make it crash the PC itself.... which i find somewhat strange. the machine is nothing but stable otherwise.... even ran Orthos for 4 days straight....

Is there some sample source for AHK that you can point me at for this ? I'd like to write a wrapper for HOTD 3 .. Just wondering about 'best practices' I'll gladly post it to this thread for others to use

bug reports : - on my last test 'random game' did not seem to be invoking the button lighting - selecting different MSAPI voices does not seem to work in the GUI -- editing INI file seems to work also, question : how do i get my trackball to light up for trackball games ? its set at p1_trackball and has the trackball_1_* and mousecode_1_* input codes assigned i can make it light up for profiles etc no problem but it doesnt seem to be 'picking up' any instructions from the mame control colors data handler

also, not sure if this is a feature or bug, but it would be nice if the stock gameex auto-upgrades did not overwrite my PluginUltraStik.ini .... i'd also like it to not overwrite my SetControls.exe since I have a wrapper replacement for that ... but I'd imagine that is a bit of an odd request and I just need to deal with it ... the .INI on the other hand is a bit of a problem since I am basically losing my config on every auto-update. -
GAMEEX = #1 its amazing how much PAIN this software saves us all while bringing us so much JOY

DONT YOU LOVE GAMEEX??? i almost feel sorry for users of other front ends... they don't know what they're missing =) it's definitely the front end of choice for a new generation of [emu]gaming / media appliances

is there any way to control how GameEx handles ZINC substitution in the MAME lists? for example, if I'd like to remove Tekken 3 from the list of games that ZINC is automagically substituted for.....

hmmm that sounds interesting. i should try that.. sounds cleaner. also .. not sure if my description of what all this is exactly is confusing .. since i am mixing 2 things together .. merging genesis/32x/segacd... and merging the dbs aside from the sega thing, this basically represents taking the 2 versions of these game databases .. and merging them together so as to have a single more complete DB for each of them ... also, if anyone has any interest .. i will merge any other game db's for other emus , or do a split sega set .... it seems that, while there is a lot of overlap, there are many games that are only in 1 version of the dbs (i.e. "2600.MDB vs [Console] Atari 2600.MDB") but not in the other. maybe then, the official GameEx distro can include only the updated single versions. and if we want to do that (tom?), i will gladly be the grunt who goes through _every_ db and does the clean up =)

ok, so as my nightly ritual goes .. i start poking around my gameex & various emulators ... looking for things to tweak & improve .. i notice that gameex has this wonderful system where it uses MSAccess databases to pull game info for console games etc.... but that... 1) there are multiple versions of the db's I need ... 2) the genesis / 32X / segaCD is all split up (and i just lump them all under "Genesis" and let Fusion worry about it... as im sure some of you might) so ... i came up with this set of merged MDBs, that do two things 1) combine the multiple versions of each Atari 2600, NES, SNES, SMS and N64 DBs into one DB each per console instead of 2 separate copies....while avoiding dupes.. using the "[Console] Atari 2600.mdb" files as the master and the seemingly older "2600.mdb" as the one to backfill from .... ending up with 1 new "MERGED [Console] Atari 2600.mdb" hopefully taking the best of both. 2) combine the genesis/32X/segaCD ones into one MDB and do the same merging between old / new as in #1 for all 3 They are attached in the .ZIPs You unzip these in your GAMEEX\DATA\EMULATORS directory.... and point your emulator profiles to the respective "MERGED - [Console] <emuname>" choices. also... if anyone else wants to do this, here are the steps 1) make a copy of the MDB file that you wish to use as the 'master' (one that you want to win any wars for dupe record ownership...ie has best data to start with) 2) open it in msaccess 3) answer any warnings so as to not tamper with the db and 'let it do its thing' 4) right click on the GameData table 5) go to Design mode 6) right click & delete the ID field if its there and marked as primary key 7) make sure "Indexing (no duplicates)" is enabled for the GoodName field (turning this on also makes it faster ;-) .. but more importantly, avoids dupes of 'worse' data ) 8) close & save 9) right click in main DB window and select option to add linked table 10) choose the child MDB you want to add new records from 11) select the GameData table & hit ok 12) highlight the new table, usually GameData1 13) hit Ctrl+C (copy) 14) hit Ctrl+V (paste) 15) select the option to APPEND DATA only 16) type in "GameData" as the name of the table 17) hit OK 18) when it complains about skipping duplicates, and whether to continue anyway, hit YES 19) delete all your 'temp' tables so you only have GameData 20) go to GameEx config 21) open emulator profile for emu in question 22) point to your new MDB 23) enjoy. also, if you are unable to do step #7 (turn on Indexing / NO Dupes) for any given DB.... do a Ctrl+C/ Ctrl+V on the table... paste "Structure only" .. go in and do the rest (7 on) of the steps on that NEW empty table you make ... but also repeat 12-18 for the old GameData table to copy it into the empty one you just made ... then delete it and rename the new one to GameData ... MERGED__Console__Atari_2600.mdb.zip MERGED__Console__Nintendo_N64.mdb.zip MERGED__Console__Nintendo_NES.mdb.zip MERGED__Console__Nintendo_SNES.mdb.zip MERGED__Console__Sega_Genesis_32X_CD.mdb.zip MERGED__Console__Sega_Master_System.mdb.zip

ok, string[] bug is fixed. event tab still seems bugged. some options save that did not before. but still exhibits same behavior otherwise. god i love this plug in the first version was "just fine" ... but this one adds a whole new dimension ... and being able to set up the profile based stuff ... MMmmmmmm so great ... esp when u r running stuff like SNES, N64 and Dreamcast where you have lots of buttons you can hit... and u need to color code them to not have people asking you constantly what is what.... i feel sorry for anyone else who tries to get 9 million different emulators, a couple LEDwiz (not to mention U360's or 49ways) working seamlessly without the help of GameEx and this plug in

Request: Video snap support for "External Apps" aka "More Games & Programs" EDIT: this is actually a working feature already the help file in the config just had the wrong path listed. after i put the AVI snaps in the right place it worked fine. -
not sure if it helps any but here's my experience.... i had this same problem with the HQ set, switched to SQ and it was fine after that. before that, i did also have lots of weird problems with video in gameex... in general ... i tried the FFDShow snapshot builds ... CCCP2 .... neither would work. i went to the FFDshow version posted on the http://gameex.net downloads page ... and everything seems to work with that. while that pkg may not be 'optimal' as its a bit old, it works fine.

hi, does anyone know how to get video snaps working with the external apps menu? i've added a couple EXEs to this menu .. and set the snap names ... the 'help bubble' that u see when u mouse over the fields says to put the snaps in GameEx\Media\Logos ... I've put made a directory with that name and put the .AVI's in there .... and I've tried setting the snap name for the program to name of the file both with and without .AVI .. neither works. anyone know how to get this working ? im kind of wondering why this menu doesn't let you define a snap path like the emulators ... maybe the media\logos dir is not right and i just need to put the files somewhere else? I'm thinking that only .JPG / .PNG are supported ? :-( hmm....but just tried it with a test .JPG and no luck on that one either. gameex\media\logos\ might be the wrong place to put it?

well, i dont have mouse button left/middle/right mapped to joy 1/2/3 on any/all sticks .. i would imagine if i did, i would get all 3 buttons lit since the U360 is acting as the mouse .. i would tend to say its worth disregarding this case either way .... since the U360 acting as a real windows mouse is just... weird. i'd rather it act as an analog stick and let mame worry about it...
-
not really. the ultimarc 'mouse' profile is a little funky: button 1 = left mouse button 2 = middle mouse button 3 = right mouse and mame says left mouse = button 1 right mouse = button 2 so, you end up with button 1 & 2 lit... but 1 & 3 active. your lighting the right buttons...its just the U360 changes them in mouse profile. the wrapper i posted fixes it. the 'analog' profile seems more useful than 'mouse' in any mame game i can find ... as long as you have a cp w/ trackball/spinner

I've written some scripts to wrap the LuminAudio-WIP engine from GGG/Randy. Each of the 4 main modes are supported, and a EXE is included for launching each: - Pulse / Turbo - Pulse / Normal - Sweep / Turbo - Sweep / Normal Additionally, a LuminAudio_Close.exe is provided. The AHK source is included in the src\ subfolder. These .EXE's can go in your LuminAudio folder, or wherever else you like. They're expecting LuminAudio to be installed in C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP. You can modify the .AHK script files to point them somewhere else and either run them directly or compile them back to .EXE's. This wrapper seems to play very nicely with the Ben's LCD/LED plugin. The visualization only occurs on the buttons that are marked active for the current profile. While it's prettier to use them all for viz, usability of your cabinet is greatly improved for "most people" this way. Keep in mind that any profile you have where you want the viz to show up on certain buttons but not necessarily light them (i.e. game ex default)... you can just check the 'State' box in the LED plugin config and set the R/G/B or "single" values to 0.... this will 'allow' the LEDwiz onto it. Here are the necessary bits from the GameEx.INI file.... You may need to renumber the apps if you already have entries in these slots. If someone wants to use this with another front end, they just need to point to the EXE's ... [ExternalApplications] Enabled_2=True Name_2=LuminAudio: Linear Color / Pulse Path_2=C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP CMD_2=LuminAudio_NA_Pulse.exe Snap_2=LuminAudio_NA_Pulse ShowDesktop_2=True MapKeys_2=True WaitBeforeKeys_2= SendKeys_2= Enabled_3=True Name_3=LuminAudio: Linear Color / Sweep Path_3=C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP CMD_3=LuminAudio_NA_SweepPulse.exe Snap_3=LuminAudio_NA_SweepPulse ShowDesktop_3=True MapKeys_3=True WaitBeforeKeys_3= SendKeys_3= Enabled_4=True name_4=LuminAudio: Shuffle Color / Pulse path_4=C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP cmd_4=LuminAudio_Turbo_Pulse.exe snap_4=LuminAudio_Turbo_Pulse showdesktop_4=True mapkeys_4=True WaitBeforeKeys_4= SendKeys_4= Enabled_5=True name_5=LuminAudio: Shuffle Color / Sweep path_5=C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP cmd_5=LuminAudio_Turbo_SweepPulse.exe snap_5=LuminAudio_Turbo_SweepPulse showdesktop_5=True mapkeys_5=True WaitBeforeKeys_5= SendKeys_5= Enabled_6=True name_6=LuminAudio: Disable path_6=C:\Program Files\LuminAudio_WIP cmd_6=LuminAudio_Close.exe snap_6=LuminAudio_Close showdesktop_6=False mapkeys_6=True WaitBeforeKeys_6= SendKeys_6= Enabled_7=False name_7= path_7= cmd_7= snap_7= showdesktop_7=True mapkeys_7=True WaitBeforeKeys_7= SendKeys_7= I've made some video snaps to go with these. Does anyone know how to get these working in the 'external apps' / 'more games & programs' menu? http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CI390FD9 It says to put them in GAMEEX\MEDIA\LOGOS ... I've done that... and set the snap name to the name of the movie both with and without .AVI on the end ... but it doesn't seem to work either way. Any ideas? I think the videos came out rather well, so I think they'll round out the package nicely =) LuminAudioScripts.zip

hmmm. should the check boxes in the events tab be saving? for example, i cant seem to turn off samples and enable speech ... not sure if the sub options are saving either .... is there a certain order i should be manipulating the UI? i hit events->dropdown:sample->uncheck->save ->dropdown:speech->type something->check box->save ->dropdown:sample and things are back the way they were. and doing test on the speech UI plays the sample instead.

ok, well... after getting frustrated with my mis-matched LEDwiz lighting and bowling/golden tee.... and then finally trying outrun turbo and seeing that the U360 could be used as an analog pedal substitute (Y=gas, X=brake)....but that it was instead being used as a mouse... i broke down and wrote a wrapper first i tried AHK.... (for the first time).. for some reason replacing setcontrols.exe with a AHK compiled EXE caused GameEx to hang.....everything seemed normal in the command line. here is the AHK script if anyone wants to fix it ifEqual 1, mouse { ;MsgBox intercepting mouse and substituting analog Run C:\Progra~1\GameEx\plugins\SetControls_real analog } else { ;MsgBox setting %1% run C:\Progra~1\GameEx\plugins\SetControls_real %1% } although that did not work, i did end up with a working solution. i wrote a .BAT: @echo off if %1 == mouse goto mouse goto passthru :mouse C:\PROGRA~1\GAMEEX\PLUGINS\setCtl analog REM echo\\ >> c:\temp\setctl.log REM echo analog >> c:\temp\setctl.log goto endprog :passthru C:\PROGRA~1\GAMEEX\PLUGINS\setCtl %1 REM echo\\ >> c:\temp\setctl.log REM echo %1 >> c:\temp\setctl.log :endprog and used the old DOS BAT2EXEC to compile it into a .COM.. and rename it to SETCONTROLS.EXE ... works great. bat2exec had to be run in COMMAND.EXE so as to invoke WinXP NTVDM ... so that is required in order to build it ... i dont know whether or not this .EXE will still work in a OS without NTVDM (i.e. Vista64) .... attached is the final EXE ... 1) drop it into the C:\Program Files\GameEx\Plugins folder as SetControls.exe 2) rename your old EXE to SetCtl.exe also attached is the BAT2EXEC program ... in case your gameex is in a different path you will need to rebuild the executable. .. you can do it like this 1) save the .BAT code from above as SETCON.BAT.... take that and BAT2EXEC.COM .. put them in your gameex "PLUGINS" folder 2) edit the .BAT to reflect your new GameEx path... use the 8.3 naming format (you can see what it is by doing DIR /X and/or using COMMAND.COM) 3) start -> run -> "command" (not cmd) 4) "CD" to your gameex plugins folder 5) type : bat2exec setcon.bat ren setcontrols.exe setctl.exe ren setcon.com setcontrols.exe 6) give it a try. but i have to say, this plugin totally kicks ass. cheers to you. i'm in heaven it's so nice having all the controls for the various console emulators color coded so they arent so cryptic ... not to mention mame with the [latest] colors.ini emulating the ORIGINAL control panels....
-
yeah that would probably help with the whole "OK" situation. i'll have to check that out....i could get a nice Pentium M optimized EXE as a by-product of the process as well.... =) but really, the thing i'm most buggered about tho is the mouse key remapping...since i use your LED plug-in the btn 1&2 light up but its actually 1&3 you have to hit....people get very confused playing bowling & golf =) i think his plugin is calling setcontrol.exe to load the mouse map .. i think i will just have to write a wrapper for that exe using some of the tricks i have seen watching you guys (this AHK stuff is quite interesting i must say... and i thought i'd missing my shell scripts going from my linux desktops to win-xp on this cab), i can probably safely remap all calls to that w/ the mouse map to invoke it w/ the analog map with good results ... i would imagine mame wouldnt mind too much.. and that way i'd have my regular 7 gamepad buttons showing up instead of the 3 mouse buttons ...
